Sridevi regains her memory and, in the process, forgets all the time that she has spent with K Hassan. As her train moves, K.Hassan resorts to monkey antics in a desperate attempt to jog her memory.
Okay, the situation was hardly the same!. However, Ashutosh still reminded me of Kamal Hassan's character yesterday. Except that Kamal Hassan's heartbreak was evident through his antics whereas Ashutosh's was not! Not particularly!
So far as the baby track was concerned, it started out as his dream! The fact that this burly, middle-aged man had such tender emotions and longing within him, the fact that his status as an orphan made him yearn for that blood connect - these were the factors that made the baby track seem so poignant and appealing to many of us. After all, every other show has a baby track. And most of us have babies ourselves. So, why would we long to see a baby on our TV screens? The fact that here it was a man who longed for the baby was what made it different. After all, women are intrinsically maternal and a woman yearning for a child is not unusual in the least. At least, most of the time!
So, finally they had to bring the dream crashing down with biochemical pregnancy! Fine! So, they had to show a mother' yearning for a lost blessing! Fine, since that was their agenda after all! But in all this, why did Ashutosh's paternal instincts get swept under the carpet.? His reactions and responses were limited to his wife's pain. Great thing that but I so would have liked to know what that man felt within him, when his dream dissolved even before it could take full shape!
A mother longing for a child always makes for poignant drama! I have no complaints on that count!
But, could they not have spent a minute to give us a glimpse into what was going on in Ashutosh's mind with regard to the lost baby? Agreed, they want to make him a perfect husband who puts his wife's emotions ahead of his own at all times. Kudos to him for that. But I so would have liked, as an audience, to be privy to his inner angst. Since this angst was what kept me glued to the show for the most part! All I wanted was that one single moment, possibly a moment hastily covered up thanks to the presence of Nidhi or anyone else. A moment to which I, as an audience, would have been witness!
Edit - I would like to recall another scene from Sadma here. Sridevi is lost and K.Hassan is desperately looking for her, As he is running about frantically, he spots a Bappa idol under a tree, He comes to a halt and prays for her safe return. In that one moment, beneath the concern for Sridevi, the trauma that the man was going through was revealed. People may remember the monkey antics more but for me, that moment under the tree was special. How I wish Ashutosh had one such moment to himself!
The scene is in the last minute of the first link and the first minute of the second!
