Monday witnessed the launch of two daily dramas on the small screen. One was Bani on Colors while the other was a strong family drama, Badalte Rishton Ki Daastan on Zee TV.
Badalte Rishton Ki Daastan surrounds the story of three characters who's personalities are poles apart. One of them is the man of the house, Balraj, a strict, egoistic, orthodox, rich business man. Next is Balraj's daughter-in-law Nandini, a devoted member of the family, mellow, girl next door, who is pregnant with the child of her dead husband,Annirudh. And then comes Meera, the love of Annirudh's life, who's a woman of the contemporary era. A family saga infused with mystery and history, and lots of intense drama, Badalte Rishton Ki Daastan, takes a different approach to drama than what's currently on.
The story is based on the Bengali show, Khela. We can slowly see male antagonists and stories that question some of society's laws making a comeback. The story has a good pace and the execution is supported well with a good background score, dialogues and costumes. The set could have been better. Every scene in the first two episodes have been quite powerful. Let's just hope that it doesn't get overwhelming in the long run. Nevertheless, the drama so far is easy to get hooked onto.
The casting of this show is well thought out. Sanjeeda and Aditi are perfect for their respective characters. Sanjeeda's back with her strong personality as Meera, while Aditi's presence brings softness to the script. Kiran Karmarkar was a pleasant surprise. I couldn't have imagined him playing such an intense negative character. But the man is a perfectionist, so no complaints. But I fail to understand why does Mona Ambegaonkar play such an older character? She really doesn't look that old to play a "Biji"
Screaming Critics grades Badalte Rishton Ki Daastan a B+ and ***1/2 stars.
