Hello everyone...this is just a one shot story...my take on shiv and gauri's situation...ive changed a few events acc to my imagination. i Hope all of u will like it....Here goes
In the eerie night where the silence was shockingly deafening…they all sat huddled to each other…Taken captive by unknown dacoits,fear rang as a death knoll in each person's ears.
Gauri sat with her knees against her chesr.She was terrified of being there…She payed fervently for the safety of all of them…unconsciously Shiv's safety formed a priority in her prayers..despite all that had happened between them she still wished nothing would happen to him.She wished he would sit next to her and comfort her…but being shiv, he didn't.Across the small rivulet Shiv looked at gauri.He wondered if he should sit next to her but for some weord reason decided against it.He could see the fear in her eyes even in the dark.He wanted to allay her fears,bu how could he when he himself wasn't sure if they would survive this ordeal.After much thought he went and sat next to her.He could sense her relief,even though she said nothing.Funny he thought..he could understand what she said even without her actually saying something.
Rat-tat-tat…The sound of gunfire shook all of them.Gauri clutched his arm tightly.
The dacoits approached them and said that the police refused to take them seriously and they had to teach them a lesson.They pulled eh guide of the group and dragged him away.The others tried stopping them,butfailed. A lone gunshot signaled the end of the mans life. Tears welled up in everyone's eyes…Gauri's face had paled…she sat like a zombie.
After a couple of hours the tyrants approached them again.Everyone tried to distance themselves from them.Nobody wanted to be the next target.One of the men stopped next to shiv and gauri.Both held on to each other..and almost ceased breathing.The man pulled gauri towards him and said "your turn ma'am".Shiv was stunned.Never had he thought they would take gauri….he had thought it would be him…somehow it pained him more that it was gauri.He shouted aloud "Let her be…take me instead"
Gauri's eyes opened wide in surprise.The dacoit paid no attention to shiv..he knocked gauri's hand away frm shiv and pulled her away. Shiv tried fighting but was soon overpowered and got injured in the bargain.He kept shouting gauri's name.He just couldn't come to terms that they had taken gauri away.
He recollected all that had passed between them since they had been married…The only memory that kept resurfacing was that of a sweet docile gauri who never complained despite all his rudeness and pig-headedness.
Gauri…gauri…gauri…What he wouldn't do to get her back.Her smile,her dimples,her voice,her hair..how he longed to see her again…He was ashamed of the fact that he her tortured her so much since their wedding day.Yet she said nothing..
This was all his fault…he had brought her here…He had failed her.If he ever got out of this alive how would he face her family..baba,kaya…aaargh…he had failed her.
Though their wedding was a faade,he was supposed to be her protector.
Shiv couldn't stop tears from streaming down his face,when he hrd her voice…"shiv"
He looked up to see her face,a little bruised but it was her alright.He smiled at her thru his tears.He took her palms in his hands and kissed them,and then hugged her. He was so glad she was back…and asked what had happened. She quickly explained that they had taped her and had intended to send the tape to the police as a warning,so as to tell them that if they failed to pay up she would be the next victim at sunrise. Sunrise….he looked at his watch and saw that there were a good 8 hours to go.He had to figure out a way to save her by then.He saw that her sleeves were torn..his blood boiled when he thought of how the tyrants had treated her.He wrapped his coat around her shivering body and dipped his handkerchief in the water to create a makeshift compress for her bruises.She flinched at the contact but appreciated it all the same. He took her in his arm,surprising her…she gasped and looked at him.He just sshd her and planted a kiss on her forhead and lulled her to sleep. Gauri had a very disturbed sleep…she kept shifting and muttering "don't take me away…don't take me away from shiv"…It drove a knife thru his heart that she wanted to be with him despite all he had done..He had to figure out a way to save her. " I promise you gauri…I'll save u even if it kills me…I promise you".
Shiv observed the gang keenly for an hour and figured out their watch out.They had only 2 ppl watchin over them while the others were on top od some hill where he presumed they held camp. He would have to take his chance against these two…They looked distracted and one of them was almost sleeping.
When one of them completely fell asleep shiv waited for an opportunity when he could outsmart the other..HE struck gold at the end of a two hour wait. The man walked away believing all of them to sleep,probably to relieve himself. Shiv gently woke gauri up and told her "Listen gauri…we have to escape now..both the guards aren't watching us…It's the only chance we have….I have…to save…come on…Gauri though terrified blindly followed shiv as they stealthily made way across the rocks crouching to avoid being seen by anyone.
They soon came to a clearing suitably far from where they were held captive…and ran…they ran as fast as they could.But fatigue was overcoming gauri..and she just couldn't keep up with shiv. She stopped at various intervals…"Gauri, we cant afford to stop..we still aren't away from danger…We have only a few hours to sunset…we cant be captured now…pls try to run.". "Shiv I cant…im too tired…my legs feel like lead…I cant run anymore…U carry on…save yourself…I cant anymore…" and she burst out crying.
"Shut up gauri….I didn't do all this to leave u for the dead….My sole motive is to save you…and u are going to be saved whether you like it or not…now stop crying so I can carry you…and we both can get out of here." His sudden outburst scared her and she meekly obeyed him…he deftly carried her in his arms and ran…She kept looking at him throughout…She knew she loved him…it had struck her a few days after their wedding.When he saved her dad,when he danced with her…when he did little good things without realizing it himself. She loved him with all her heart and never wanted to be away from him. But when fate had thrown the harsh reality of death in front of her..she couldn't help feeling bad…she wanted to believe in him that they would be safe..but there didn't seem much hope…
After about 30 mins of running with her in his arms…shiv began to feel tired too…he gently set her down and explained to her that for a while she would have to walk on her own…cos that would be faster…she listened to him and kissed him on his cheek."shiv I never want to be separated from you"…he was taken aback by her gesture…recovering himself he said " Never gauri….i promise u that…after all I still have to trouble u a lot.u think im gonna let u off the hook so easy ? dream on…with a glint in his eye..he took her hand and both walked together..After a while it was apparent to shiv that they were lost.He was sure they had passed this clearing before…They were just going about in circles…great…why did sense of direction fail u when u needed it the most.HE was sure the dacoits would have noticed their escape…and would be on the lookout for them.He had to get them out of this ravine asap…
He was sure he felt someone following them…or maybe he was delirious…they hadn't had water for hours….dawn was fast approaching…somehow the rays of light didn't bring rays of hope…Gauri turned to him and said " I'm hungry"…it amused him..
"Ya baby…we are just at the brink of a mcdonalds…just 5 more min….Gauri..we are in the middle of a god forsaken jungle running for our lives…where do I get u food from ?"
She smiled at his attempt to joke…
Time was running out and fast….suddenly shiv saw something far away which resembled a building….great he thought…it has got to be a forest ranger's house…we've got to get there…The feeling of being followed intensified…even gauri felt it…"shiv do u think they are catchin up with us ?"…"no gauri…im sure we are far away frm them" he said in a very unconvincing tone.
All the same he made her quicken her pace in the direction of the house….Around 10 min later they hear gunshots…Fear gripped him…they were so close…pls god…let us just get to the rangers house safe…gauri clutched his arm….he just gave her a reassuring squeeze and they hurried on their way.
The shots started to ring closer….and gauri was sure one zipped past them real close…but shiv kept telling her that they'd be fine…and she willed herself to believe him…
Finaly they were in plain sight of the house….and relief washed over her…hurrah they were safe…she could see anupam and ipshita standing inside the house…and several officers poised with guns…"we made it shiv….we made it…"
Shiv just pushed her towards the house….The officers clamored to them…and shiv explained that the dacoits were in hot pursuit…They assured them that they were safe now and had no reason to worry and told them to take cover in the house…
They stepped into the house and shiv called out to anupam "dada…" and collapsed….
Gauri screamed…..Only then did she see the bullet wound lodged in shiv's right abdomen….SHIVVVVVVVV….she screamt out loud….he was struggling to keep his eyes open…anupam and ipshita rushed to their side…"shiv u'll be alright….i wont let anything happen to u " to which he meekly smiled and said…."who are u kidding gauri…there is no way I'm gonna survive this….the pain in unbelievable…even ur better as compared to this…" then he added…" its been a pleasure knowing u lady….i just wish I had made better use of our time together….Too bad….i wont live to see the sunrise…"
Saying this he took his last breadth in gauri's arms…."too bad I wont live to see the sunrise".
