5: First Day and Second Impressions
Akash was putting on his socks in the living room when Ms. Jivvy, dressed in black dress pants and a navy blue, V-neck, long sleeved top, walked out the doors, talking on her Bluetooth and holding an iPad in her hands. She reminded him of his bhai, and he chuckled a little as he remembered the damage his bhai had almost created – and that too with a short, young girl.
Payal handed him his lunch, and saw him looking at Azmih. She smiled, and said, "Did you know how sweet she is? She was brought up in U.S., but she still knows a lot about India."
"Really?" asked a curious Akash. It seemed that the family members knew more about AR's guest than him or bhai.
"Yes. She is very jolly, just like our Khushi. When she was eating with us yesterday, she spread so much happiness; everyone liked her – Naniji, Di, Maji, Papaji, Khushi, and even me. But she was a little weird."
"Akash! Are you coming?" Arnav blew from somewhere. Akash kissed Payal good-bye and left.
The Raizada women were busy gossiping when lunchtime arrived. Akash had already been given his lunch, and Arnav was going to eat outside. Mamaji decided to come home for lunch, although Nani wondered why he didn't want to stay away from Manorama.
"Hey bhagwan!" Anjali exclaimed suddenly. "We forgot to ask Azmih about her lunch! What will she eat?"
"Why don't you send it to the office with Hari Prakash? I heard Chote saying that they had a meeting at 2 P.M." Nani suggested.
"But Naniji, it will be too late by then." Khushi thought out loud. "Why can't we just call her and ask her to come home for lunch?" When Nani nodded, she added, "I'll call Arnavji and ask for her phone number."
When Khushi did that, Arnav became unconsciously jealous – My own wife, calling me, asking for Ms. Jivvy's phone number because she didn't have a packed lunch? Then what about me? She isn't worried about that? What the – forget it.
"Hello?" Khushi spoke on the phone, trying to reach Azmih. "Azmih? Nahi…mera matlab hain Ms. Jivvy hai?"
"No Ma'am," the attendant responded. "12 to 1 in the afternoon is her lunch time. She is never in her office at that time. May I know who is calling and what message you have for her?"
"I'm Khushi Kumari Gupta Singh Raizada. I wanted to ask her to come home for lunch. She's new in the city and wouldn't know where to eat."
"Don't worry Ma'am. She won't miss her lunch. Her whole team has gone out to eat, and from what they were chattering, I think they've gone to eat golgappes and dabali."
"Thank you. Bye!" Khushi had water in her mouth at the mention of those foods, and everyone could see it when she told them the news.
* * *
"You are 29 seconds late." Ms. Jivvy was sitting at the table in the conference room, tapping her fingers on the desk and looking at the clock.
"What the?" ASR was confused since someone else had found error in his punctuality, and was blatantly vocalizing it.
"Anyways, shall we continue?" Ms. Jivvy took the lead, leaving a very surprised team of AR employees. "GBD can create this software to help you with these designs. The turnover time would be around five months, during which we will need to have a team in AR, observing and analyzing the work process. Additionally, we can also provide you with newly designed equipment intended to supplement this software. We will also provide training to your staff for a period of 3 months and then a 4 year guarantee." Jivvy had finished her presentation, which was detailed and professional, although was too colorful for ASR's liking.
As the meeting progressed, ASR began to recover from the shock of dealing with a child, and started asking questions and discussed specific details. Ms. Jivvy replied to ASR's inquiries, and also refused to go with his terms and conditions and change anything in the proposal. ASR knew that the deal would be beneficial to AR as it would increase production rates and employee efficiency by at least 8 percent, a statistical data that Jivvy had also mentioned, but he was a businessman and wanted a good bargain. Even though he didn't like not being able to work on his own terms and conditions, he was amazed with Jivvy's ability, and his respect for her grew.
At the end of the meeting, Akash had waited till all the employees left and only ASR and Jivvy remained in the room, before asking, "Ms. Jivvy, would you like to come back home with us? It's getting late already, and we are going to the same place." She nodded and smiled.
In the car, Arnav talked to Jivvy about recent business news, world markets, and economies, and the two had managed to converse the entire ride. They had started arguing and debating at some points, but Akash was surprised to see his brother talk so much.
The two had entered Shantivan, still engrossed in their conversations, followed by Akash. Arnav saw the curious glances his family threw at him, and realized what he had been doing; as expected, he ended his talk abruptly and went to this room. Azmih on the other hand, greeted the family, and went to find HP to tell him that she was hungry and to call her when dinner was ready.
* * *
"Where is Jivvy?" Arnav asked as he sat down for dinner and took his plate from Khushi. The Raizadas turned to look at Arnav, wide-eyed and shock evident on their faces. What had happened in such a short span that made Arnav ask for the girl he couldn't stand in the morning?
"Arnav bhaiya, she is in her room. Should I go and call her?" HP asked, fearfully – not of ASR, but of what Azmih will make him do. His legs were still paining from the morning tennis session.
"No need HP! I'm here already!" Azmih descended the stairs, wearing her pajamas and looking fresh.
She sat down next to Khushi and began eating silently, looking at everyone one by one. She turned to Khushi and tugged her hand, "Khushi didi! Why is no one talking? Isn't dinner family time?"
Khushi whispered back, "Laad Governor is here. That's why everything is so depressing."
"Did you know about the new Salman Khan movie?"
Khushi's eyes lit up and she asked, "Which one? Dabang?" Azmih nodded. "Oh, I've always wanted to see that movie! The trailer is so good, and Salmanji looks so handsome that no one can compare to him."
Azmih nodded, and excitedly added, "Yes! And the news have said that there will be lots of fighting in it, but Salman Khan will always win! Do you want to come with me and watch it tomorrow? I can book tickets!"
"Really? I would love to come!" Khushi was almost jumping on her chair excitedly at the prospect of seeing the movie tomorrow. "But Azmih, how will you get the tickets? It's already a full house, I've checked with all the theaters in Delhi."
"I'm Ms. Jivvy, and no one can stop me." After gulping down her remaining roti, she added, "Ek baar jo maine commitement kardi, us ke baad toh mein khud ki bhi nahi sunta."
Khushi grinned and said, "Oh! You seem to be a big fan of Salman Khan! Is he your favorite hero?"
Azmih furiously shook her head and said, "No! Amitabh Bachan, Mithunda, Jetendra, Shaid Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, and Akshay Kumar are better than Salman Khan! But my favorite is Arjun Rampal."
"Kya! No one is better than Salman Khan!" Khushi protested.
"Salman Khan's movies are good, but there are other actors better than him! He looks like an ice-cream cone with a cherry on the top. Big arms and shoulders, but tiny legs, and a tiny head on top. Doesn't even know when to stop working out! And Arjun Rampal's movies are awesome, his body is great, but the only problem with him is that he doesn't show up in many movies."
"Ha! That must mean that Arjunji isn't getting enough contracts from producers."
"No! It just means that he is not a full time actor. He's a model." Khushi's mouth opened to defend her actor, but unfortunately, Azmih's description of his body was correct, and she couldn't do much to argue with her. Azmih wiggled her eyebrows at Khushi and said, "I always have the last word, remember that didi!"
Though they were whispering, everyone present at the table heard their conversation. Arnav was jealous when Khushi praised Salman Khan's body in front of everyone, including him, and had fisted his hands to keep from exploding. When Jivvy mocked his rival's body, he felt a little better, and regained his pride for his body, and ate quietly, eavesdropping on his wife's conversation. Naniji and Mamaji were shocked that the foreign-raised girl knew about actors like Mithun Chakravati and Jethendra – actors that even Akash did not see much of. Payal had rolled her eyes when she heard Azmih quote Salman's dialogues, and thought that Khushi had found herself a match! Akash almost choked when he heard Jivvy say that no one can stop her. It reminded him of ASR, and the way he would say his name with pride. She was just like bhai, he thought. The only difference was that while bhai used his name to crack deals, she used her name to get movie tickets.
Azmih got up, collected her plates, and put them in the kitchen sink before coming back to the dining room and said, "Well, thank you for a wonderful dinner. I have to go now!"
"Where are you going Azmih?" Anjali asked. "Wait for a while, my husband will come soon, and I can introduce you to him." She did not realize the tensed look on her Chote's and Khushi's face.
Azmih nodded and said, "Okay. I'll bring my homework here then."
"Hai? Homework?" Mamiji asked.
"Yes Dadiji." Azmih added the title on purpose; she knew that Mamiji didn't like it and that is why she enjoyed riling the old lady up (which was also much to Naniji's glee). "I go to school, so I will obviously have homework, right?"
Arnav looked up and asked, "You go to school? But you have a business?"
"I do online schooling so I can handle my business and travel when necessary. And business is my hobby, not my career choice. I want to be a neurosurgeon, so I will obviously go to school!"
it looks like Jivvy is going to give Arnav a reality check and will help him see what he is.. he can be without his inflated ego..
I loved their first meet.. Jivvy's view for gods is fair.. something she has common with Arnav..

6: A Snake's Dilemma
Shyam Manohar Jha was returning to the luxuries of the Raizada house after spending the day with four different women, in bed. His life was just amazing – he would spend the morning and evening doting on his stupid but wealthy wife, and utilize the money in the afternoon hours, to fulfill his various desires, including designer watches, women, and what not.
When he came to the mansion though, he was surprised to see the guest, but politely greeted her. Then they were all seated for some family time in the hall, where Jivvy was sitting on the floor, leaning against the wall, typing away on her laptop. All of a sudden, she looked up and asked, "Shyamji, you are a lawyer, right?"
He nodded, thinking that he might get a chance to show off to the young girl, and the Raizadas and gain their trust, incase Arnav decided to do something. He did not like the lack of distance between his saale saibh and his Khushiji.
"What kind of a lawyer are you?"
"I'm a civil lawyer, dealing with pension cases, divorce, annulments, and so on."
"Oh. What type of lawyers makes the most money? Criminal, civil, or corporate, or someone else?"
"It just depends on how famous you are – there are civil lawyers that make ten times as much as a corporate lawyer, and there are corporate lawyers that make far more than what one could imagine."
"Is the demand of lawyers high in India? Do they make a sufficient amount of money?"
"Yes, lawyers have a decent salary. But why are you asking so much?"
She hesitated before replying. "Don't take this in a wrong way or anything, but I was just curious." After a momentarily pause, she continued, "It's just, all the shows and movies about India show that gharjamais are either unable to provide a good enough lifestyle for their wives, or are just cursed with overpowering wives. Anjaliji doesn't seem to be that type, and you seem to be making enough money, then why do you stay here?"
No one spoke for a while, because what she had stated did make sense. Arnav and Khushi looked at Anjali to see her reaction, but both were mentally happy that Jivvy asked that question; it would plant a seed of doubt in Di's mind.
Shyam sweated and gulped. What am I supposed to say now? He looked at everyone else, but all were busy thinking about it and the way the girl had stated it did make them curious.
Finally Anjali spoke up, "Azmih, he doesn't have a family, so we stay here, where there is Naniji, Mamiji, Mamaji, Chote, and Akash. We were going to shift into our apartment, but then news of my pregnancy came, and everyone refused to let me live alone."
Jivvy contemplated a while, before asking, "Oh, I see. So what have you done with the apartment? Rented it, or what?"
"It is still under construction."
"Then when will it be ready? And can we go and see the construction?"
Anjali looked at Shyam, wanting to know that too. Unfortunately for them, and fortunately for him, he was saved by an "urgent" phone call.
* * *
Khushi watched as her husband walked back and forth in the confines of their room, thinking hard. She knew that Arnav thought of her as the other woman in Anjali's life, and that knowledge broke her from the inside. The person she loved did not trust her enough – not enough, not at all. She could have defended herself, she could have taken him to Happyji's garage and asked the mechanic to identify Shyam, but what was the use of it? He had already declared his verdict without any trial.
There were only two months left before the contract finished, and Khushi wanted to make sure that she enjoyed her limited time with her family; where she would go, she did not know, but she wouldn't return to Buaji's house and bring them shame. She wasn't putting up a faade of being happy in front of the family members, for she was, surprisingly, happy; however, she was just merely sealing her shattered heart in a cotton filled bottle, so that no one else could hear the noise, the tears, and the agony it underwent from time to time. No, there was a difference between lying and hiding the truth, and Khushi was doing the latter.
Putting aside her martial problems, she focused on Anjali's. What happened downstairs with Shyam and Jivvy had undoubtedly made Anjali curious – and Khushi was absolutely sure about that. Now, all she needed to do was continue to make Anjali realize the holes in Shyam's words, and Di herself would start to get curious. Praying for the best, she fell asleep on her side of the bed.Intro: Rudra fakes a relationship with his best friend Soumya to impress glamorous Bhavya-but ends up falling for the one girl who truly knew...
