Came across this very interesting article - revisitng DDLJ.

Copying and pasting the first paragraph as the entire article is impossible to paste here.

"Stuck in the same compartment of a train to Europe, Raj tells Simran, "Yeh jo aapki aankhein hain, mujhey kisi ki yaad dilati hain." Simran sternly asks, "Acha? kiski" ? Raj says, "Meri daadi ki". And we wonder how can these two people of completely different personalities fall in love? Back in London when Simran invites Raj for her wedding, he tells her that he will not attend it. When he leaves, Simran realises that perhaps, just maybe - she has fallen in love with Raj. How did that happen? Do movies really create a parallel world for us ' something that perhaps does not exist in reality? An idealistic impression of love and sacrifice".

But what do you guys think? Do movies create unrealistic expectations of love/romance/happiness?

yes to an extent

maybe people expect a lot before marriage. And when their dreams are shattered, their love/marital life suffer...

a different POV, what i expected from life

when i was below 12-
i seldom find me lost in the middle of movies-ddlg.k3g,kkhh,hssh
i tend to believe that life will be as good as sooraj barjatya moviesšŸ˜‰

it's just when i grew up and realised what real life is-Books,study and schoolšŸ˜†
the dream broke upšŸ’”šŸ˜
when you come across the realities of this world-murder,corruption,wars,droughts,famine... you realise the world is beyond what the tv shows to us.

i am not the right person to talk about love as i'm still too young for that.

divorce rates, the number of extramarital affairs(our b'stars know it better) makes me believe that Raj-Simran are just fictional😭

however there can be exceptions(lucky people)šŸ˜‰

Thanks for your views. Ya, I too believe that perhaps films makes us believe in the fairy taleish love which we might never get ... Realistically speaking, a Raj & Simran would perhaps never fall for each other. And if they did, it would just probably be a one night stand. And like all boys, Raj will move onto another, perhaps, hotter simran. Simran might have gotten married to Kuljeet.. it's scary.
