Chapter 3

Similar to the car rides of the three persons swirling in his memory, Rohan Nanda spent his quiet ride reminiscing his past, trying to figure out all his fatal errors. He must have made terrible mistakes since the cost had been the love of his life.

Well! He couldn't actually voice out her as the love of his life since he had realized it only when he was at the edge of the precipice. Damn him for ignorance! He knew the feelings he had always harbored for Isha from the very beginning and unconsciously he had been sure they were reciprocated. But why they didn't act upon it, he would never know!

And the feelings he had for Shanaya, they were more than just friendship. But why did he decide to bounce back in the last minute?

Ofcourse! Once he had a glimpse of what he could have had with Isha, he gave up on Shanaya. He had been a selfish idiot. And he had gone along blaming the only other true friend he had for acting upon his own instincts. But what Shanaya did had hurt him cause at some point of time, his feelings for her had been genuine!

Rohan discreetly ignored the incessant ringing of his mobile and continued to dance. When it rang for the fifth time, he excused himself and pulled it out of his pocket walking towards the exit of the pub. It was well past midnight.

"Hello sweety..." he said in a carefree tone after glancing at the caller id.

"Ro... Rohan... Where are you?" her breathless voice alerted him of something wrong.

"Why? What's wrong Shanaya?" he asked concern seeping into his words.

"It's Ivy...Ivy's... Rohan just come fast to the hospital nah... Please..." she almost begged and the call ended as he heard some shuffling and voices behind.

He immediately walked towards his car and got in. As he drove towards the hospital, worst scenarios flashed across his mind and his hands trembled. Parking the car carelessly he dashed into the hospital.

Shanaya who was standing at the reception ran straight into his arms as soon as she saw him.

"Baby... what happened?" he asked almost desperately.

When he tried to lift her face he realized that she was sobbing. Now that really scared him.

"Shhh... Shanaya... everything will be alright baby..." he continually whispered against her hair as he held her tighter soothing her back gently.

Her sobs quieted after few minutes and she looked up at with an annoyed expression.

"How can you say everything will be alright when you don't even know what happened in the first place?" she asked him softly. Rohan didn't know whether to laugh at or be frustrated with her. He had just gone through a myriad of possible yet worst accidents his best friend could have been and here his girlfriend was making him feel silly for his attempts to pacify her.

Seeing his annoyed expression Shanaya chose to answer before he snapped at her.

"It's Khushi Bhabi... she went into labor before the due date... An...and Arnav Bhai has gone to Bangalore on some business..." she told him with wide eyes showing helplessness.

"Where's Ivy?" he asked her softly not wanting to distress her any longer.

"She's near the OT... the doc said that Bhabi as well as the baby's condition is critical and we don't know what to do Ro..." Shanaya started sobbing once again, "and Isha, she won't talk or do anything... she's just sitting there like a statue...that's why I called you!"

Hugging her once again, "take me to her..." he told her as she shakily nodded and started walking with her arms in his.

As soon as he saw Isha he let go of Shanaya and rushed to her. He knelt before her and prodded her arm. Isha looked at him as if she woke up from a daze and her dam broke. She threw herself in his arms and sobbed uncontrollably. Rohan settled on the hospital floor and held her against him as Shanaya stood leaning on the wall besides them.

After what seemed like forever, a calm Isha looked up at him. He slowly wiped away her tears and held her face between his palms.

"Isha... listen to me! Khushi Bhabi and the baby are gonna be ok... Ok!" his voice seemed bleak to his own ears. She nodded blindly and untangled herself from him. She stood up and went to Shanaya pulling her into a hug.

"Thanks Shy..."her voice was feeble but Shanaya heard her and tightened her hold in response. Isha went back to sitting stiffly in the chair as Rohan came to stand beside Shanaya.

"Has everyone been informed?" he questioned her in a barely audible voice.

"Di and Jeeju are on their way Ro... And Bhai said he'll come here in the first available flight..." Shanaya whispered back and once again everything lapsed into uncomfortable silence.

It was almost dawn when the light over the OT went off. The trio immediately stood up in alert.

The doctor came out of the room with a tired smile.

"Both the mother and the baby are fine!" that was all she had said when Isha fiercely hugged the doctor.

All's well my dear..." the doctor patted her cheeks and added, "two of you can go in coz it's the OT!" and walked away.

Isha turned around only to witness Rohan and Shanaya kissing. She looked away giving them privacy and went into the OT with a slight smile.

A breathless Shanaya pushed a grinning Rohan away.

"Just go in Ro..." she pushed him towards the OT and he conceded.

Khushi was unconscious but had a serene look on her face.

Isha gingerly took the tiny blue bundle from the nurse and looked at the new born in fascination. That's when Rohan entered the OT and he stopped mid-step at the sight before him.

Isha stood there infront of her bhabi's bed holding the lightly stirring new born in her arms., looking at him with wide unblinking eyes as the unshed tears made her eyelids clung with each other. The look on her face was pure joy. She looked so lovely that Rohan couldn't stop himself. He slowly went to her and hugged from behind holding the baby along with her. She uttered a small giggle as little one twitched his button nose.

"He's cute... isn't he Ro?" she asked him a whisper.

"He is... What are we gonna name him?" He asked her as he put his chin on her neck.

"Aarav...that's the name Arnie chose" she told him as they both gazed down lovingly at the baby.

This was when Khushi chose to open her eyes and she looked at the pair holding her baby with a knowing smile. She refrained from saying anything not wanting to pop their little bubble. Shanaya who was looking in through the small window on the door turned away with a painful tug.

"Ro... where's Shanaya?" Isha stepped away from him but Rohan couldn't take his eyes off the baby. He had never seen a new born up this close before. When he didn't reply she turned towards the door and gestured Shanaya to come in. Isha made her hold Aarav and ran to her Bhabi hugging her with a huge smile.

"Thanks Bhabi..." Khushi was surprised and pulled herself away from her.

"Thanks??? For what Isha..." she raised her eyebrows.

"For blessing our lives with your awesomeness Bhabi..." Isha gave a nosy kiss on her cheek and smiled naughtily. Inbetween all these, Rohan, like a moth attracted to light, went to Shanaya who was holding the baby in her arms and before anyone could notice pinched Aarav's tiny cheek. The consequence was disastrous as the cherubic baby till then started wailing loudly. All the three women turned to glare at Rohan who meekly defended, "What??? I didn't do it!"

Shanaya glowered at him, "From now on Rohan Nanda, I should never see you near the baby again. This is not a toy Rohan," she told him trying to calm down Aarav as Rohan looked away sheepily. Khushi and Isha tried to stop themselves from laughing as Isha went to take away Aarav from Shanaya and gave him to Khushi. The baby immediately went quiet and that's when Arnav came dashing into the room. He went straight to Khushi and hugged her as if his life depended upon it. The trio stepped out of the room hearing Khushi admonishing Arnav for squeezing their baby along with her and they had laughed at Arnav's half grunted replies.

It all seemed as if they happened eons ago rather than just the few years it had actually been. Shanaya always knew that there was something more between Isha and Rohan. But she was in denial. She simply refused to believe in it. All those small small incidents showed her something she never wanted to accept and it was easy for her to ignore as the concerned two never acknowledged it either.

Life was never complicated. People made it knotty themselves with inapt decisions.

Shanaya remembered it with a guilty pang as that was the first and only time she had seen Isha in such a vulnerable state. That girl was the only support she always had both physically and mentally. But all she did to her was push her away with misplaced jealousy. Shanaya sighed. This was going to be a long day!

The four, waiting in the hospital were immersed in their own memorylane with each of their hearts weighed down by various emotions. All their immature mistakes went way back, to the beginning of their final school year.

It was just a week before their school started after summer vacation and it was Aarav Singh Raizada's first year birthday bash. It was no ordinary event. Almost all of the Delhi elite were invited for the little tot's party.

After being pinched by various aunties and all cooing girls, Isha managed to carry away the red cheeked Aarav. She stood near Shruti, looking at the entry door expecting her best friend to step in any moment. That girl was panicking early in the morning about the birthday present she forgot to buy for her favorite baby. If Aarav was Isha's nephew, he was as good as being Shanaya's nephew too since the girls were like sisters from different womb.

Probably she was shopping for all his birthdays, Isha thought fondly. Yup! Her Shanaya was capable of doing it as she usually bought for an entire army each time she went shopping.

That was when Shanaya entered in all her grace only to be stopped by her mother and step sister.

Hearing their little exchange, Isha stifled her laughter and turned around only to see her other best friend shamelessly flirting with her roomie.

Uh oh! That guy will never learn...

She turned around to look at Shruti who had the same worried expression mirroring hers when they heard Shanaya behind them.

"Hey guys! Hello my cutipie... Have you girls seen my boyfriend?" Shanaya pinched Aarav's cheek as Isha swatted her hand away.

"Oye! Enough of that... he had an extraordinary dose of pinching today! My poor baby... here..." Isha handed over a wine glass to her friend trying to distract her.

Not hearing any of that Shanaya turned to Shruti, "Shruti... Have you seen my boyfriend?" she asked once more. Shruti guiltily looked at Rohan's direction as Shanaya fumed up.

Isha immediately stepped infront of her, "No Shanaya! Let's talk about this to him and--"

"There's no more talking Ivy... he needs to learn few things!" Shanaya glared at her for sticking up for Rohan.

"What? Are you gonna breakup with him Shy?" Isha was shocked.

"I'll be right back!" Shanaya stepped away from her and walked towards Rohan and Tanya.

Isha cursed under her breath for giving the red wine to Shanaya as she saw her dumping it on Tanya's dress. Rohan had really screwed it up this time as Shanaya shrugged him off when he was trying to flirt with her instead of apologizing. She was right! That idiot would never learn until pushed to the edge. But Shanaya would never go to that extent, she knew her friend better.

Rohan looked over and caught Isha standing with Aarav in her arms and staring off into space. He swiftly moved across the room and stood beside her, picking up Aarav from her.

"Shy might murder you if she sees you holding her sweetheart Rohan!" she told him without glancing his way.

"Atleast by that way she'll come back and I can explain to her, right!" he shrugged off as Isha rounded at him with a furious expression.

"Explain what to her Ro! Why you were flirting with Tanya when you have a girlfriend or how you simply forgot the fact that you had a girlfriend efficiently?" she threw the tissue she held at him.

"Whoa! Cool down babes... Not you too! What is it? Hate Rohan day..." he asked her without holding back his sarcasm.

"Just because I am your friend doesn't mean that I'll stand whatever you ditch at Shy Rohan! I helped you get along with her and so I'll make sure to see through that you treat My Friend well. You better sta--" she was cut short as Rohan's mother came towards them.

"How are you Isha? It's been days since you came home!" Gayathri Nanda asked her without noticing the animosity between her son and the girl she was addressing.

"I am fine aunty! As for me not coming to your home, all thanks to your son standing here. Ask him!" Isha told her when she was called by her Bhabi.

"Coming Bhabz... Aunty, take care of Aarav for me nah! I don't trust Rohan with him..." she requested Gayathri with a glare directed at Rohan and marched off.

Gayathri took the baby boy from Rohan who stood staring off into the direction his best friend had just walked into with a frown marring his handsome face.

~~ ONE WEEK LATER~~

The story about the tall and handsome new boy was buzzing around the school in plenty.

"No one knows his name!!!" a broody Tanya walked beside Isha who gave her an indifferent look.

"Huff! Why am I even walking with you?" Isha was irritated.

"Fine! I take it that you haven't forgiven me yet. I better head for cheerleading then!" Tanya told her running off before Isha could snap further.

While passing through the parking lot, Isha saw the mystery boy parking his bike in Ro's space as Dimpy and Sudo tried to make him park it somewhere else.

Ah ha! Now, there is gonna be a lot of drama on the very first day of school, Isha mentally giggled. But not for long!

Isha stood stunned as Rohan's zooming car stopped few inches infront of her. A smirking Rohan stepped out as she gave him a disgusted look. He ruffled her hair as he went towards the new boy. Isha tried to straighten her hair, now infuriated by Rohan's antics she turned around to hear the mystery boy say his name.

"Abhimanyu!" He said with his head held high. Someone standing up to Rohan! Well, that was something new! She felt a feeling, akin to respect towards Abhi.

'Immature brat!' She thought as she saw Rohan making fun of Abhimanyu being a valet in a nightclub. She should have known! He was making him park his car insulting him more.

On the contrary to what she expected, the car whirred past her into the field with Abhi messing it up. Rohan glared at her as she hollered with laughter and then the fight broke out between him and Abhimanyu. As they were dragged to the Dean's office, Isha couldn't help but be impressed by Abhi's attitude to Rohan's relentlessness. And as fate would have it, he was good in football too according to the soaring high gossips. It seemed Rohan had finally met his worthy competition afterall!

The 3rd chapter... Sorry for being late than the aforementioned date guys... The 4th chapter was pending and I couldn't bring myself to post this without finishing it...

And from now on, the storyline would move through the past with occasional glimpse of the present! As I said, JUST LIKE THE MOVIE!!!

god, rohan is such a douchebag. it was bad enough in the movie, but now isha, shanaya and tanya. the guy is confused. 😆 loved abhimanyu's entry...i guess now shanaya will try to make rohan jealous using abhi and rohan-isha hidden tension will continue..god...i want rohan and isha to meet so badly😆
