I am in the computer field and the best advice I can give you is:

Brand: Toshiba or HP.
Processor: Celeron is bad.
Hard drive: For college students, 60 gb is good enough.
RAM: 512 is good. 256 is good, but slower.

*Make sure the wireless is built in the computer. Some laptops do not have it built in.
