Why does Saras still want to reject Kumud?

Saras is clearly attracted to Kumud and must be feeling something close to love (if not fully) towards her. He also knows very well now that she likes him too and that he hurt her when he rejected her. So why does he still want to talk to Vidya kaka and break the alliance? 😭

Yes but saras has other issues which he is trying to deal with. He is still traumatised by his mother dying due to his dad leaving her. He has a complex with marriage. Yes he is attracted to kumud and is falling for her but he is worried he won't be able to keep her happy.

At this point, he is confused.. I think in his mind he thinks he has to reject her because he is not capable of loving anyone in his life, something thats got to do with his past life..he is more spiritually inclined, not into family life and all.. but his heart is in a tizzy..with each passing day as he is getting to know Kumud he is feeling attracted towards her. Thats one of the reason he hasnt been able to say anything yet besides the fact that he is overwhelmed by the love he is getting from the family which is making things even harder for him😊

It seems more like he isn't ready for a marriage... and he probably hasn't gotten over how his father basically dropped this decision on him without consulting him...

I agree with what everyone is saying in the comments and on top of that kumud is pressuring him to tell her dad the truth and she's giving him the cold shoulder. And clearly what ever kumud says he takes seriously and to heart. Kumud wasn't exactly welcoming to him (which completely makes sense) so I don't know how he's going to even attempt to say that he changed his mind when the time comes.

I hope Kumud softens towards him after she sees how he administered first aid and saved her father. If she does not, he is going to have a difficult time convincing himself that he should rethink his decision to reject her...

@myviewprem, I agree with your first part. He does have a lot of emotional baggage from his unhappy childhood. I think he does not believe in the institution called marriage and hence had already decided to go the ascetic way. He had thought of becoming a sanyasi for a long time so I agree he cannot break out of it so soon. The fact that he has not yet spoken to Kumud's father and keeps telling himself that he must do it soon (😆) tells us that his mind is wavering. He feels the strong attraction to her but has not figured it out yet... I think he would go back without telling Vidyachatur anything and their love will deepen over time. Hopefully he will pour out his inner feelings to her in his letters, so will she... and they both will come to understand each other better (like in the novel).
