"The creative aspect of Khamoshiyaan went wrong": Ila Bedi
Tellybuzz in conversation with the producer of Hitler Didi, Ila Bedi Dutta'
Being a writer how did you decide to take a plunge into production?I have been writing for other production houses for so many years. It's all about growth. Being a writer, I wished to execute my own vision of becoming a producer.
How has the journey been so far?
The journey has been fantastic and all the channels I have worked with, proved to be very supportive to me. They believed in me and my conviction. We have a great collaboration between Zee and Synergy and it's a wonderful team to work with. The partnership is great.
How was Hitler Didi born?
It was a concept that my colleague Raju Manikya had in mind which was about a woman of today and I really liked it. We weaved a story around a woman who is not apologetic about what she is. Television showcases more suffering women or housewives but here is a girl who never suffers, who speaks her mind and has responsibilities of her family on her shoulder. She never spares anyone who comes between her way. This is the basic character we pitched to the channel and then the story started formulating from there. The title of the show 'Hitler Didi' was mine, as she is like a Hitler by nature and her family is scared of her because she runs the house.
Do you feel that the story has deviated from its track after the double role track of Rati Pandey began?
Indian television is very fluid and we have to keep coming with tracks and stories. You can't be stuck in a vacuum because then there will be viewer fatigue. We should keep going with the stories constantly. Drama keeps on happening in our day to day life and we have to move on. Same is with the Indian television; innovation is needed.
Fans wish to see the characters Indra (Rati Pandey) and Rishi (Sumit Vats) together. What do you have to say to all of them?
Yes of course! They will come together but as we know, the course of love is never smooth. There will always be hurdles in their journey but the time will come when they become one. They have to come together and part again, and then there will be some kind of incidents which will decide the course of their journey.
What is the strategy upon which Trilogy Krikos' works?
Our aim is not only to do fiction but venture into non-fiction as well. We are making shows for Zoom and TLC which are non-fiction shows. It's all about being a complete production house, and not stick to one particular aspect. We are planning to try out of the box ideas for our fiction genre. I will be coming with different concepts and not the typical saas bahu sagas. Our strategy is to do different stories for different channels.
What is Hitler Didi going to hold for its viewers in its upcoming track?
The show is moving with Indira's memory loss where she only remembers the portion of 7 years when she was in Pakistan and Rishi has taken up the challenge to bring Indira's memory back. Rishi won't let Indira forget him.
You had also penned Agneeepath. How was the experience?
It was a fabulous experience. It was a great experience working with Hritik Roshan and Dharma Productions as its producer duo. I am proud of it.
Mujhse Kuchh Kehti...Yeh Khamoshiyaan was one of the most talked about show when the promos were going on. Where did you lack in making it a big hit?
Khamoshiyaan was our co-production. We didn't handle the creative part of the show. The writing went wrong as our creative partners Sai and Shakti Deodhar had no experience in creative and writing so that totally went wrong. We gave the best production support and it wasn't lacking in any sphere. It was the content that didn't work. Sai and Shakti were the creative producers of the show and they failed as creatives because television is all about content and not really about the production value.
We would like to know about your brothers who are actors. Are they involved in production along with you?
My brother Manik Bedi is also one of the partners in the company. He handled Khamoshiyaan as producer and he is also part of Hitler Didi. We are planning to make films with my other brother Rajat.
Any new shows in pipeline?
Yes, we do have a couple of shows in the pipeline. The storyline is still in the developing stage and it would be premature to talk about it right now.
