As to why Durgam still did not change even after getting all the Knowledge of the Vedas.
My humble opinion is that it is due to his ego--ahankar.
Let me give you an example
Everyone in the world I think knows that killing is a crime.
Theft is a crime and agaisnt the Law of any land,
yet time and time again this knowledge is ignored and we still people killing and stealing.

In the same way the Knowledge has no affect on Durgam whose ego is so overinflated that he only wants to misue his Knowledge.

And we all know that Knowledge can be misused.
This is a prime example.
