Chapter 8
She hugged herself, pulling the jacket close to her, as she fixed her gaze ahead. She could feel him looking at her every now and then, making sure she was fine. She wanted to tell him not to worry about her and that she was fine, really, and just need some time to accept the decisions that she had taken without consulting anyone, or without thinking about anyone. It would be difficult for her to accept everything easily. But she would help herself accept the truth and be happy.
She felt the pain on her lower part and took a deep breath. After she had accepted to move in with him, they had done it, again. It was too much for her, yet, it felt too less. She couldn't get enough of him. With the fact that he would leave her after few days, or though she thought he would, just like others, she decided to have as many moments with him as possible. They were too lost in their desires that she didn't feel pain until they were satisfied.
He helped her in packing her things and they made their way to his flat. She was going to leave her past behind and start life afresh. She had few months with him ā after the completion of the project, Arnav would leave the city and her ā she knew. And she wanted those months all to herself with him. She would deal with the circumstances later. She would never bring herself regret for her decision. Never. It was what she wanted. It was what she wished. A man by her sideā¦
Her packing was limited. She needed to makeshift her wardrobe; her old attire would remind her of her life and she was against it. In a day or two, she would shop.
A smile broke on her face as she remembered the breakfast prepared by him. He didn't allow her to cook. He made her sit on the counter and made her watch him while he baked a cake, celebrating their relationship.
"Enjoying your private joke?"
He asked her, bringing her back to the present and she shook her head, still smiling, "where did you learn to bake a cake?"
His smile disappeared as his jaw set in a tight line. He fixed his gaze on the road ahead. Khushi was not sure how to react to the sudden change. She asked him the simplest thing and he was clearly upset with her question. She reached out for him but stopped it midair. They were not in a very legal relationship. She had no idea of how he would react if she placed her hand on his arm. She brought her hand back to her lap, clasping them tightly. "I am sorry," she apologized, "I didn't mean to hurt you."
He took her hand in his and placed in on his lap without breaking his gaze off the road, "you don't know anything about me and it is natural for you to ask, Khushi. Please do be sorry for no fault of yours." He smiled at her, "Dadi taught me how to cook few selected dishes. She is no more."
She rested her head on his shoulder, leaning forward, not wanting to talk about it anymore. She knew nothing about him. In these months when they worked together, she tried to avoid her feelings for him, but never watched him out to understand him. All the while, she fought herself to stay away from him, remembering herself that she was a married woman. But he knew mostly everything about her ā her likes and dislikes. She smiled, she had lost her life. Now, she was ready to lose herself to him.
She stared at him as he parked the car in the lot and took a deep breath while running his hand through his messed hair. He got down, walked to her side and opened the door for her, extending his hand. "Don't panic," he whispered to her while she stared at him, not understanding his words, but let him lead her to the elevator. As she looked her surroundings, studying the place, she was a group of about 6-21 age gap, staring at her. Girls, mostly. And she understood his meaning. She should not panic, not at least in front of them. She looked at Arnav, amazed, who smiled embarrass, at her.
"Hello Arnav," one of the girls, 19 may be, called him out, eyeing her top to bottom, "who is this woman?"
"Hi everyone, enjoying your day off, ah And this is Khushi, a friend," he turned to her while she tried to control her laughter, "Khushi, these kids stay in the flats here. A good entertainment you will have with them."
"Hello," she managed to wish them all and they followed them in the elevator. She noticed that the girls had their eyes on him, and felt their heated, jealousy gaze burning her alive. She pushed her fists in her jacket pockets, watching the scene unfolding in front of her. She was sure; she was going to have fun staying here. She would make a great friendship with this gang. She would even help the teenagers how to impress the handsome hunk beside her. She would try to make them all see reality during the stay.
Suddenly, she was eager to jump around the place, meet everyone in the locality. Would they like her if she wasn't with Arnav? She wondered. She tempted to turn around and ask them but he held her arm, dragging her out of the elevator. And of course, the kids followed them up to the flat. He struggled unlocking the door and after few tries, he succeeded. "Bye guys⦠see you around," he weaved them with a forceful smile and shut the door with much force.
Finally, they were alone in his flat. She stared at him for a while and burst into laughter, unable to control anymore. "Oh my God, Arnav," she shouted in middle, "that really is funny. You have fan following from all the age groups. Not bad, Raizada⦠impressiveā¦"
"That isn't funny. Stop laughing right now," he warned her for which she laughed more. She found his threatening more funny. She ran away from him as he marched toward her. She knew he would not leave her alone now and she wanted to save herself but her laughter. She hadn't enjoyed to this extent in her life. She reached his flat, and was running around the place, jumping like a kid. She could feel the change within her. And she loved it. "Stop right there, Gupta," he shouted at her while she grabbed a water bottle from the kitchen counter. She couldn't remember when she reached there.
"How dare you threaten me?" she shouted between her laugh and the next moment, she found herself wetting his upper body with the bottle. His shirt hugged his body, revealing his perfectness. She stared at him for a second, her mind remembering him when he entered her room after the shower, and things he did to her after it. Lost in her thoughts, she gasped at his sudden grip as he pinned her to his body, his eyes had a deadly glare.
His eyes softened as they held their gaze that soon filled with desire. She wanted to push him away, she wasn't ready for it. It was too much for her to bear. "I can't get enough of you, Khushi," he whispered, fixing his gaze of her lips, as he pulled her jacket off her gently, "I want you, right now. Strange that is, your carefree laughter always turned me on and now, there are no barriers between us."
She closed her eyes, not wanting to show him her discomfort. She liked whatever happened between them, but they had almost three times in a span of 12 hours. Her body wasn't allowing her to think about desires. She felt his lips pressing on her forehead and the next moment, he lifted her off the ground and walked back to the front room, placing her on the couch. She didn't try to sit, but adjusted herself, watching him as he switched on the plasma and handed her the remote, "make yourself comfortable while I prepare something for lunch." She raised her brow in question as he shrugged his shoulders, "3 pm isn't late for lunch, Khushi," he scowled at her.
She held his wrist and pulled him beside her after seating herself and snugged into his arms, "can you be with me for a while?" He nodded, settling himself comfortably as he pulled her close to him. Khushi closed her eyes, feeling content. She felt safe in his arms.
Her mobile rang, making her giggle while Arnav let out a frustrated whoosh and pulled it out of her jeans pocket and frowned. It was from her father. She stared at it, debating herself whether to attend the call or to ignore it. Deciding against it, she attended it, not wanting to have another call from him as she knew he would call her back until she talked to them. "Hello, Papa," she spoke and felt him stiffen beside her.
"Khushi, where are you? The flat is locked and NK said he will take 15 minutes to reach the place. Don't you have an off today?"
She felt numb with her father's words. They were here and she had no idea about them. And she just moved in with Arnav⦠she stared at him, she had a clear picture now. NK must have called their family. Arnav would have known it and so proposed her to move in with him. She waited for her temper as he hide this matter near her, but all came to her was gratitude. Arnav saved her from her happily-wedded-woman act. "Sorry Papa, I have no idea about your visit," she said, shutting her eyes tightly, hating herself for being selfish and for cheating her parents. Yet, she found it good to cheat in this way ā with Arnav ā than to cheat them with NK. This at least gave her happiness. "I am away for a business trip. I will take me almost a month to return. I was so in hurry this morning that it slipped from my mind to inform you as the trip was confirmed last night. NK will be with you, so no problem. Papa, I need to go now, can't talk to you. I will call once I am free. Bye," she disconnected the call without waiting for him to speak and stared at Arnav.
"Khushi, I am sorry. I don't mean toā¦"
"Kiss me," she demanded, cutting his words, as she pulled him by his collar, "I can't get enough of you, Arnav. I am glad that you helped me escaping from my usual act as his wife. Now, let me forget everything and help me enjoy my life."
"I really hope and try not to frighten you, dear," he whispered before capturing her lips with his, pressing her to the couch with his body. He left her lips, guessing her to be out of breath, as he trailed down her neck, he buried himself, inhaling her, "I am sorry for not informing you about the visit, but I am not sorry for the decision I take in the matter, Khushi," he whispered. He sat straight, wanting to look at her, as she sat herself beside him, "enough of living as a slave, Khushi. I want you in my life. I want you to want me in the same way. Whatever we started last night, we are together. We will face the society, our families, together. If you are fine with it, I want to marry you, Khushi. I want you as my wife. This is too fast for you to even think and I will wait for your decision. I just want you to know my feelings for you and about our relationship."
She stared at him with tears rolling down her cheeks. He didn't try but let her cry to her heart's consent. She was shocked, surprised and mortified. She thought it was just a passing affair for him. She thought he would leave her once they finished the project. But here, he was proposing her. He wanted her in his life. She was having a life she longed to have. "Can you help me finding an advocate?" she whispered, unable to find her voice, "we need to have divorce papers to avoid future problems with NK, if he plans to do something sillyā¦"
And he kissed her, pinning her again on the couch.
