Nina Dobrev Sans Ian Somerhalder Wears Fancy Pants

Nina Dobrev gave new meaning to the phrase "fancy pants."The Vampire Diaries star showed up without constant companion Ian Somerhalder to the Independent Film Awards 2013 that took place in Santa Monica, California, while wearing her version of this sort of sartorial statement.

She did so in the form of a very glitzy ensemble that featured a tunic-like top that was embellished with gold sprinkles of some sort.

Meanwhile, the outfit's skimpy white shorts showed off well-toned, tanned legs on the leggy actress who likes to try style tricks on the red carpets she walks, always confident that someone will like what she (OK, she and her stylists) chose to wear. Or, at least, so it seems.

This time the boy shorts aspect of this getup was OK merely because the event, held annually, took place at the beach where many other luminaries like Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper showed up on this award show's style runway as well. In fact, the catwalk was filled with all kinds of costumes, but Nina's pick showed her to be unique in her choice of garb. And this atypical fashion find was certainly a contrast to boyfriend Ian Somerhalder's back suit and tie that he wore last year.
