Testing new frontiers, Anuj Saxena is all set to start shooting his new serial | |
'Kulvaddhu' I shot a 40 minute pilot and took it to the channel. I think, it is a combination of hard work, determination and luck that got them to approve my serial. The lead is a new girl called Daljit Kaur and the others are Milind Gunaji, Kitu Gidwani, Sushmita Mukherjee, Suhasini Muley, amongst others. It will be on air on Sony by mid-December with a bank of eight episodes. Risk taking producer Acting was a risk as my father could have thrown me out. So also Maverick but I have got a show approved in 15 months of setting it up. I am taking a different, risky approach. I have submitted a pilot to Doordarshan. I will be shooting two more pilots One is a grand Yash Chopra kind of a love story and the other is a realistic story having a rural backdrop. It is expensive to make pilots. One has to have an edge over others. Today, channels are looking for producers who are new and hungry with new creative ideas who present a high quality show. The acting bug In six years, I have played different characters. I worked with many top producers like Balaji, Miditech, Jai and Kinnari Mehta, amongst others. I have worked simultaneously in two dailies and a weekly serial and it has paid off. I enjoy acting. But acting in my productions is out as I don't see the need for it when I am getting good work with outside banners. Work pressures Time management is key and I know my schedule three months in advance. Recently, I have received four offers as lead roles and it's a great feeling to know that I am in demand even with so many younger and talented actors around me. As a producer, I am a perfectionist as the final product will reflect on me, be it good or bad. Though I have a great team and I manage so many different businesses only by delegating work to efficient people, the onus is finally on me. It is my thought, belief and my money that takes things forward. I work non-stop! Looking ahead Today, the media is not just about entertainment, it is about making money. Maverick aims at producing excellent entertainment but also make money. I am going to present an award at the Emmies this month. It is an honour for me as it shows that TV has come of age and people are taking India seriously. After all, Emmies is for TV what the Oscars are for films. I will be producing films next year. My business gives me money and power and acting gives me creative freedom and fame. |
