To me Salman, SRK, Akshay, etc..are commercial actors with their base and have some mindbloing movies..

Whereas nasser saab,thoseyou mentioned are in their place and would never compare them to commercial stars..who time time give something outstanding

Entertainment is one of those tricky things to measure. I don't think there is a hard and fast rule.

There is an objective standard that judges talent and performance. But it is a subjective means where enjoyment of it is completely on the receiver.

But the fact is - Popular does not mean good and good does not mean popular, although sometimes you get people good and popular. We need to stop trying to make the two converge.

Yes, you are absolutely right. Bollywood has always been an industry focused on glitz, glamour, kitsch and over the top entertainment. There are very few genuine actors in Bollywood. The industry is mostly full of well marketed "products". And that works. You don't always have to be intelligent or path breaking. Entertainment has its own value. I have no qualms admitting that I myself enjoy mindless kitsch. Even in Hollywood flicks I'm a sucker for movies that are just "Loud Noises" and "SFX".

What gets irritating is the inability to admit that you enjoy mind numbing entertainment and refusing to acknowledge criticism. In the end it's a subjective medium. It is silly to try and prove superiority over numbers in such a subjective medium. I love Salman Khan flicks as I know they will always be fun and time pass. But I'll admit that barring a few like Tere Naam or HDDCS ' most of his roles are just characters. Anyone could play them, but he brings the party to them. The same thing with SRK as well, barring CDI, Swades etc most of his roles are romances anyone can do, but he brings the SRK factor to them. It would be stupid to try and pass them off on the same talent caliber as an Irfan Khan or Nasserudin Shah.
