No one cared when Bina Rai or Nailini Jaywant died? They died recently , however everyone cared so much when Dev Anand died? So male dominating.

No I don't think that its about male vs female in this case...Its just that Dev Anand , Shammi kapoor and Rajesh Khanna are all considered legends...so a big fuss was made...I wish though that they would pay some tribute to all the actors whether male or female...Its sad hearing about Bina Rai and NJ...two very beautiful and talented actresses of yester year..

I am not from India but really know every insight of bollywood, Representing the overseas fans i have'nt even heard of those names before and Dev Anand is a legend, Maybe thats the difference.

So what they are popular or legends? No TV report , no news about their death... Looks like India will stay male dominated for a time

In this instance, I don't think its anything to do with being male/female; it's more to do with your stature. Dev Anand is a renowned actor, everyone knows him, I don't even know the two females that you mentioned.

My apologies for saying this but I am sure the likes of Rekha-Hema would stir similar commotions like Dev Anand.

Can't say I know these actresses. Also depends on if they were in news till recently. Dev Anand almost worked till he died. Sadly its "Out of sight ,Out of mind".

I think the very fact that nobody has heard of them proves what the original poster is trying to point towards. The females of the 50s and 60s were never given as much celebrity and adulation by the industry and media alike. Therefore they fade away. I mean look at the 90s decade: All the top male stars still dominated right through the 00s and some even now:
Shahrukh
Salman
Aamir
Akshay
Ajay
Saif

Some even became legendary almost, which started much earlier in the 80s but were strong in the 00s:
Anil
Sunny
Sanjay
Govinda

But if you look at the ladies, how many of them are on par with their male counterparts:
Madhuri
Juhi
Kajol
Karisma

Maybe just these 4.

The likes of:
Raveena
Manisha
Urmila
Tabu

nobody really regards them as the legends they should be. They are no less than the Akshays and Salmans.

Quite simply sexism.
