Mona Singh can still not believe that she has won the 'Jhalak..' show
'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa's (Sony) grand finale took everyone by surprise, when Mona Singh won over techinically superior, Shveta Salve.
Over eight week's of performances by both contenders ended in a nail biting finish with Mona Singh taking home the crystal trophy and Rs 50 lakhs as prize money. "I am just staring at the trophy," says an ecstatic Mona.
"I think the underdog of the contest has won. I am very happy that I put in all the hard work to see this day. My parents are very proud and it's just a great feeling." says Mona.
Giving Tobby the entire credit for her winning, Mona says, "He is 100 per cent responsible for my win. I was a tough participant to coach. It was difficult to make me move as I was so stiff and fat and just couldn't dance. Tobby took it as a personal challenge to see that I lost weight. First two weeks, he made me sweat and slog by exercising. Only then did he start to teach me the basics of dance.
"I must say that Shveta and Longi are also winners. Shveta is an exceptional dancer and a hardcore performer whereas I was very raw," adds Mona. She recollects how Shveta helped her perfect the dance steps that they had to perform for the jugalbandi round in the finale episode.
On her fellow competitors, she says, "I appreciate their ability and showmanship and often wondered if this competition was just over our heads. I would make special mention of Pooja Bedi who rooted for me when all the other celebs were diplomatic and wanted both Shveta and me to win."
Shveta got a standing ovation from the judges after Mona was announced the winner. "I was clearly not the judge's favourite and I am sure Bhansaliji must have already signed up Shveta for his next film," quips Mona.
Chief creative director, Sony, Sandiip Sikcand says, "The show has surpassed my expectations. There will be a second season to 'Jhalak...' but later."
Who was his favourite? "For Mona, it is a real success story. Going beyond just performances and competitions, 'Jhalak...' emphasises self-esteem, confidence, responsibility, and most importantly, teaches them to strive to do their best. All the celebs were fantastic but my hero was Mahesh Manjrekar. I even voted for him," smiles Sandiip.
