PART 5:

SWAYAMS POV

________Flashback__________________________________

"I swear to god Swayam if you do not come down!" Sharon shouted from below me.

"Oh come on Sharon," I called through the branches of the tree, "it's not even that high," I held on tightly.

"Swayam Shekhawat I meant it!" she shouted again.

"What are you gonna do if I don't come down Sharon Riaprakash?" I squatted low, so that I could peer down at her through the branches. She was standing underneath the tree glaring up at me with her hands on her hips.

"I will," she started, but stopped as if trying to think of something bad enough to force me down from the tree, "never kiss you again," she finished strongly. "You wouldn't dare," I gasped in fake horror, while looking around for her cat in the tree. "I meant it," her voice got stronger, "I will not kiss you again for the rest of our life!" she yelled and despite her empty threat I grinned, she said our life. "Is that so?" I asked, stalling for time just as I saw the cat's tail in front of me. "Yes," she answered as I scooped up the cause of all this trouble.

"Well then I guess I am just going to have to come down now," I called as I looked for some foot holds to use. "Yes, you better," she sighed loudly. "I'm coming," I yelled loudly as I started down the tree. "Stop squirming," I whispered to the frantic kitten in my arms. "Catty stop,' I hissed as her claws dug into my neck. "Ow," I yelled as my foot slipped and I went tumbling the rest of the way down only to land with a loud thud on the hard ground below.

"Swayam!" Sharon screamed, running towards me as the kitten scampered away, completely unharmed. "Oh my god," her hands swept over me as I tried to catalog my injuries. My left hand was throbbing, but probably not broken and the rest of my body was still screaming at me from the impact, but as long as I could feel everything. "Did I die?" I groaned as she came down next to me, still running her hands over me as if to test my pain. "No," she yelled, "but I am about two seconds away from killing you," her words were harsh but her hands against my face were soft. "I'm okay Shar" I tried smiling up at her, but she would not be soothed by me. "Yea, yea," she poked my side and I winced, "well at least you are alive," she sighed, and then I noticed she was shaking slightly. "Hey Shar," I sat up slowly, shaking away the dizzy feeling, "I'm alright," I smiled at her and she just nodded. "You aren't getting rid of me that easily," I joked, she snorted at me, but then smiled. "Don't ever do that again," she ordered with a stern nod of her head. "Yea ma'am," I grinned, "now where is my reward for rescuing the lovely maiden's beast?" She snorted again, "You don't get a reward for falling from the tree," she smiled, "but you do get one for living through it," she kissed my lips softly and before I could press forward and explore her unique taste, she pulled back. "You get another for saving my cat," again her lips were against mine, teasing, "And one more for being my hero." This time when her lips met mine the touch was slow and pleading. Her lips moved gently over mine as I let her calm her own fears, but it didn't take long for her tongue to trace my bottom lip before I was tugging her into my lap seeking more of her honeyed mouth.

We were oblivious to the rain that had started pouring down on us, locked in an embrace that was interrupted by a loud clap of thunder. "Ah," she squeaked, jumping back slightly. "It's just a storm," I chuckled pulling her back against me as the rain fell. "I know that," she sighed, snuggling into me.

"I love you Sharon," I whispered against her damp hair. "What?" she asked, jerking her head up so quickly it collided with my jaw. "What did you just say?" she asked, rubbing the top of her head slowly.

"I love you Sharon," I said again and a smile split her face. "Say it again," she demanded against my lips.

_______present___________________

"I love you Sharon," my voice echoed through my empty office. I looked down at the picture in my hands and said it one more time, "I love you Sharon," as the words flew out of my lips I flew out of my chair. Stopping only long enough to thrown on a jacket I slammed my office door. "Something wrong boss?" Deepa threw me another grin, but I shook my head and ran out of the trailer. "Shit," I swore as I pulled out of the job site, I had no idea where Sharon was staying. Her mother had once owned a house, but I heard a rumor a few years ago that she sold it. "Deepa," I yelled into the phone and then immediately apologized for the tone. "Did Sharon Riaprakash leave an address for where she was staying while in town?" I asked, hoping my voice was not desperate, no matter if I felt it.

"She mentioned something about her childhood home," Deepa answered, I could hear her flipping through papers on her desk. "Ah here it is," she exclaimed, "22 parkstreet," she read off the familiar address. "Thank you so much Deepa," I thanked her.

SHARONS POV:

"I can't believe you are in that disgusting little city," I fell back onto the couch as my mother droned on. "I'm only here for the night," I sighed. "I hope you are not going to see that boy," her nasally voice cut through my thoughts. "I'm not," I lied. "I never liked him," I rolled my eyes. "He was never good enough for you," she continued her rant. "His hands were always so dirty," I pictured her staring down at her own hands in scrutiny. "How's the honey moon," I asked trying to change the subject. "It's great," she squealed, I winced pulling the phone from my ear. "She sighed, "it really is magical down here." "That's great mom," I smiled even though I was already dreading the day she would decide that Gary was not the man for her. "Tonight he is taking me to a little island just south of this one for dinner!" again a piercing squeal sounded. "Well have fun," I commented, hoping to wrap the conversation up quickly. "I will darling, you be careful," she sighed, "and don't stay in that dreary city very long."

"Leaving first thing in the morning," I affirmed. "Love you mom." "Love you too darling," a click echoed in my ear as she hung up. I threw the phone to my left where it landed with a loud thud on the ground. She wasn't lying when she said she never like Swayam and she had never passed up the chance to let me know.

__________flashback____________________________

"Bye mom," I called trying to run through the kitchen, but she caught me. "Where are you going young lady?" she asked from her perch on the counter. "To the winter night concert," I answered quickly, darting a glance to the front window where I could see Swayam's headlights pulling in. "With?" her voice lingered in the silence, she knew exactly who I was going with, but she wanted me to say his name so she could start listing his flaws. "Swayam," I answered, the grip on my jacket tightening as she took a deep breath. "That boy is not good enough for you," I didn't correct her, this would all go much faster if I didn't disagree. "He is going to be stuck in this city for the rest of his pathetic life," she sneered, I flinched. "You need to dump him before you get to attached," I failed to tell her that it was too late. I loved him. "Why don't you just stay home and call that Kunal boy," that I rolled my eyes at. "He is going places." "I'm going now," I said evenly. "I'll be home before midnight," was the only good night she got as I went through the front door, cold air immediately cooling my warm body. How dare she?

My eyes took in the form now getting out of the car, he was perfect, in every way; how could he not be good enough for me? "Hey there beautiful," the grin that made my heart face slipped onto his face as he lounged against the passenger side door. "Hey," I squeaked, my voice caught in my throat. "What's the matter?" the grin vanished as he stepped toward me. "It's nothing," I lied as he took me into his arms. "You sure?" his voice was muffled by my hair. "Yea," I leant back to smile up at him, "everything is fine." That was a lie, but it wasn't the last time I would lie to him that night. Fear crept up into my mind once again as I pictured my mother, already packing husband number three's things. Would I be like her? It was the question I had been asking myself all December. "Well," he pulled back from me, "I have something for you," the truck door swung open but he blocked my vision. "Happy six month anniversary," he was holding roses out to me, beautiful red roses.

"Swayam," I gasped, the petals brushing across my fingers as he placed them in my hands. "Love you Shar," his lips pressed to my forehead quickly, my eyes still glued to the flowers as my hands ran over them. "Thank you Swayam," my voice was soft and just when I thought the night was going to get better my finger hit a thorn. I only let out a little gasp before he pushed me into the truck, but that little spot of blood on my finger kept me on edge all night.

That was love. It looked beautiful, but it was painful. Someone was sure to get hurt and as we sat on the blanket watching the school band play I decided that I would not wait around for him to hurt me. I would do us both a favor and end it.
