Chapter 9B: Phool aur khante
Aisha let out a shocked gasp first but then controlled it and replied angrily "mujhe kisike bhi help ki zaroorat nahi hai…."
Arjun mellowed down "I know…tumhe mere help ki zaroorat nahi par shaayad tumaari beti ko tumaari zaroorat hai!"
That came as a real shocker to her…..she was really furious knowing that he had digged into her life……She was having a real tough time controlling her anger…..Her fuse blown out totally, she turned to look at him face to face!

Two days before….Arjun was in one of his mood swings as his mind had wandered back to the past…Roshni's memories always resided in him but that day, his idle mind was getting clogged up and it was becoming unbearable to handle it….He screamed "Roshniii" when her cruel murder flashed again before his eyes……he snapped out and looked around….luckily, none saw that emotional and weak side of him….
At times like these, when the past haunted him so much that the pain became unbearable, he used to find peace in the terrace garden of the ETF office….none frequented that place!
As he stepped out, he heard something…it wasn't intentional or neither did he want to eavesdrop that conversation…but it was inevitable….
"dekho sweety, iss b'day pe toh nahi aa sakthi…..bohat kaam hai na mamma ko?? Aap samajhthi ho na??"
Aisha's voice fell straight into the super cop's sharp ears…He had turned around and walked off without hearing further but he understood the context and could decipher the rest of it….
When Rathod was furious over Aisha's leave, Arjun was sure that it was for her daughter's b'day and that was why he had insisted that her leave be sanctioned….
Today's phone conversation also gave him some hints to her helpless situation…..He had seen Aisha crumbling and throwing off the copy of the bus ticket to Pune in frustration! And yes, the super cop did what he had to and found out the truth!
Arjun, for sure was arrogant and egoistic, and had a don't_care attitude but he did have a sensitive side hidden behind that rough self…..he had a heart that melted seeing someone in a helpless state……his heart always sympathized, empathized with people in pain…..may be he could relate better to such people because of his own painful life…So he really wished to help Aisha reach her daughter!

Present: Arjun didn't turn away or try to avoid looking at her….He was the same old confident, I don't care self and stood expecting her to take his favor……Aisha sure was furious and sported a accusing look….She glared at him clearly accusing him for digging into her life…..As their glares met, the otherwise cool weather suddenly became hotter……fireworks would have been better than these dangerous sparks!
Aisha spoke up with a smirk "kya baat hai? ACP Rawte ko apne team member ki life mein itna interest, huh?"
Arjun didn't respond to that….He had an urge to blast out and drive away hearing her speak like that! But he stood silent staring at her while she added on furiously
"How dare you do that?? Aapko mere life mein interfere karne ka haq kisne dhi?….yeh aapne teek nahi kiya!"
Arjun replied casually "I know, sawaal bohat honge….aur unke jawaab bhi hai par ab iss waqt, ek hi baat important hai…chalo ghaadi mein beito!"
Aisha wasn't stopping that soon, "in your dreams Sir! Pehle toh mere personal life mein dig in karthe ho aur ab yeh help karne ke bahaane…..shaayad aapko mere help karke mazaa aa raha hoga…par mujhe nahi…...even if you are the last person to help me, I wouldn't take that! Samjhe aap?"
Arjun: teek hai! jaisi tumaari marzi! Phir bhi, ek baar soch lo….yahaan iss sadak pe raat barr rukhogi tab bhi kuch…[she looked away with an uninterested attitude..So he stopped midway and turned away]
She was angry because of the fact that he now knew about her Pari…..she hated sharing such things with someone……She was feeling odd because her life's secret was left uncovered before him! That made her more angry!
But on another side, she also knew that he was right….He was the only person who could help her now reach Pari just in time for her b'day! As she contemplated on the idea of taking his help, she saw another car coming that way……She asked for a lift just to show him that she did have other options too….
The car stopped seeing her….and the glass lowered….there were 3 men inside and all looked out at her…..The person in the front spoke up "lift chahiye?….come on in!"
Aisha was a bit nervous seeing their drooling faces but she acted brave…..she was a cop afterall and handling 3 men wouldn't be tough but still, she had her own inhibitions to go with them!
But then, she couldn't let that akdu ACP win this game…..her ego ruled her head at that moment! She had lost her sensibility to her ego…By then the guy at the back had opened the door for her too…
She smiled and looked sarcastically at Arjun who was about to get in to his vehicle but stopped to witness all these unfold……He was irritated by her senseless decisions and her stupid ego!
As she stepped closer to the door, she felt her upper arm being grabbed by a strong hold…She turned around to see Arjun holding her back….As she stared at his hand holding her, he spoke up
" unke saat nahi mere saat chalo…"
Aisha tried to shrug off his hold but in vain…..but before she could say something, he leaned across and shut the door of the car and told them to leave…"sorry for the trouble…..meri wife ko aise beech sadak mein drama baazi karne ki aadhat hai….aap log ko bina wajeh rokh diya…."
Arjun's authentic voice and threatening looks were ample enough for the guy at the driving seat to accelerate the car away out of vicinity……
Arjun didn't wait for hearing out her blasting response…though she kept shouting at him, he pushed her into the seat and started the car….But then Aisha suddenly became quiet, perhaps she felt that she was wasting her energy doing that as it didn't seem to have any impact on him!
A few minutes into the silent drive, quite contrary to what Arjun expected, he heard Aisha laugh….He turned out to her with an enquiring and annoyed face…
Aisha: [in between her laughs] kahi ACP saab ko iss na cheez ladki se pyar tho nahi hogaya?
Arjun fumed hearing that comment "apna bhakwas bandh karo Aisha! Tum phir se apne haddh bhool rahi ho"
But Aisha didn't stop "haddhe main bhool rahi hoom, huh? How funny is that?? aise out of the way jaakhe mere help karna??? Kyun?" [now her tone had a tinge of allegation..her laugh didn't stop too……she was laughing out as if she heard a big joke]
Arjun spoke up angrily "insaaniyat ke naathe help kar raha hoom….aur unn ladkon ke saat nahi bheja kyun ki…[pausing for a second and then looking at her intently] .I didn't want an ETF officer to be on the headlines tomorrow!! That's all about it…..Usske aage kuch bhi sochne ki galthi matth karna! Pachthaavoge! [turning to her] samjhi ya samjhaavum?
Aisha: [equally fuming] wahi baat aapse bhi kehna hai…...mujhe bhi koyi shauq nahi hai……I didn't come to you begging for help…….aap mere peeche peeche aaye ho….aur sirf isiliye, aapke saat iss ghaadi mein beiti hoom! Samjhe aap? Ya phir se acche se samjhaavum?

Well he chose not to reply and aggravate the situation……Both became silent after that….a storm seemed to have calmed off or was it a silence in between a array of storms! Only time could tell!

After an hour or so, Arjun pulled up the car to the side of the road….Aisha, who seemed to have slipped into a shallow nap woke up due to the sudden jerk!
Aisha: [waking up with a startle and rubbing her eyes] kya hua? paunch gaye??
Arjun: nahi…dhaba hai….tumhe kuch khana hai toh khalo….
Aisha: [not giving up] mujhe bhook nahi hai….lets go….
Arjun: teek hai…[saying that he got out of the car surprising Aisha]
Aisha: ab aap k…
Arjun: [before she could voice it out, he turned around and snapped her] tumhe bhook nahi hai…fine….par mujhe kuch khana hai….
[He turned around and walked into the dhaba which was crowded even at that late hour]
Aisha was hungry too..She hadn't had lunch or any snacks in between as she was hurrying up and finishing her work…..She had said no to Arjun in a fit of anger…but now she regretted her refusal…she could hear her stomach grumble hungrily….She hesitantly got down and walked in….He had noticed her coming and smirked at her..…she looked away and occupied a seat a little away from him….he had ordered his cutting chai…he used to love the chai from dhabas….Along with it, he ordered the food too…..He saw her ordering food and looked on at her in total disbelief because of her attitude……
From her seat, she could see him sipping and relishing his cutting chai…A brief smile appeared on his lips when he took the first sip! She wondered if this was the only thing that could make him smile…She had never seen him smile for anything else before…..As if her mind voice reached him, he sideways to her direction at that same instant……He had sarcasm written all over his face as their eyes met! He clearly was thinking how she had refused to eat first and now shamelessly followed him in here…….She sported a "WTH" look and turned away…..
The food was yet to arrive….both were waiting impatiently as they were hungry and it was getting late…suddenly out of nowhere, music started…typical item song number which were quite famous in such dhabas….A sensuous girl danced to the tunes….there were few guys who were surrounding her and dancing too….some were from her own group and others were some drivers from the lorries which stood there…..

She forgot everything and enjoyed those moments which she had opted to steal from her otherwise busy life!

Arjun was not interested one bit but the dancer girl seemed to have been smitten by his charming looks and above all his arrogant, uninterested attitude….She was challenging him time and again to get him attracted to her and dance with her….She stood dangerously close to him and swayed her hips to lure him…..
He looked away….She wasn't giving up….She got on top of the cot which did the job of a table in such dhabas and continued dancing….he didn't move a bit….his fuming eyes seemed to turn her on more…….she continued her dance moves in full toss style…

Aisha was amused…she told to herself "yeh ladki toh gayi…..aaj akdu AC P ke angaaron se kaun bachaayega isse?"
But nothing of that happened…..Arjun didn't scold her nor walk away angrily….he just posed indifference to whatever happened before him and finished his dinner in silence…..
Aisha couldn't help but get shocked by his cold reaction…she had expected fireworks but there were just cold waves…..
Soon, they finished dinner and silently drove away…leaving beind the song and dancers who were having a great time dancing still!.….
Aisha was still in shock due to his unexpected behavior….She kept glancing at him as she was definitely curious to know the reason for that unexpected reaction to the girl…The ACP she knew wouldn't react the way he did…..she also grinned and let out a laugh remembering that girl's performance before him….
He hadn't failed to notice her occasional glances and her grin….."mere mooh pe kuch lagaa hai jo tumhe itni hasi aa rahi hai?" he spoke up not able to bear her antics!
Aisha replied with a grin "main uss ladki ke baare mein soch rahi thi…."
Arjun understood exactly what was running in her mind when she said that but he posed ignorance "kaunsi ladki?"
Aisha: [smirking] you know exactly what I thought…phir bhi bathaathi hoom…wahi dhabae waali jo aap ke saat dance…[stops with a chuckle] I mean aapke saamne dance kar rahi thi…..maine socha nahi tha ke woh zindha bachegi….I must admit you proved me wrong there!
Arjun: [sarcastically] jo sochthe hai woh humesha hota nahi…[pauses and continued in a more serious tone]...haan mujhe usske behavior pasand nahi aaya par isska matlab yeh nahi ke main usske insult karoom…..jaisa bhi ho, woh usski kaam hai….aur mere isaab se koyi bhi kaam chota ya badaa nahi hota….agar main usspe chillaatha toh usski kaam ki behsatthi hoti….
He continued as Aisha listened on "zaroor usski koyi majhboori hogi jisske wajeh se yeh kaam kar rahi hai! aur kisika majhboori ka mazaag banaana…." He trailed off his words and just shook his head meaning "NO"
Aisha spoke up now, more in a philosophical mode "haan sabke life mein kabhi na kabhi koyi aisa modh aatha hai, jisske wajeh se majhboor hokhar hum kuch aise decisions lethe hai jo shaayad nahi lena chahiye tha…It becomes too late by the time you realize it!"
Arjun felt something different in her voice and asks after a moment's pause "kya tum apne baare mein bol rahi thi?" He regretted his question the moment it slipped out of his mouth……but as she said, it was too late…….he had already asked it!
Aisha, for a change didn't get flared up at that one but in an impulse replied in a lost tone "hmmm!"
