I feel that celebs doing public charity is okay as long as they are consistent about it. Many of them will support girl child's right to life, to education, dowry-free marriage, then they turn around and act in films that promote regressive attitudes or they endorse fairness creams all over the place. Somewhere they should draw a line about consistency and their commitment to ideals. But if they are vocal about an issue all the time and their lifestyle is in accordance with those principles, then dhindora peethna is tolerable. Few of them are in this category sadly.
Still, it's excusable even for the most corrupt of them to donate even if they are doing it only for their PR. At least it is helping out others who need the money. It's like a tax they are paying, just like how Salman Khan donates a lot to charity but has court cases and allegations of domestic abuse against him. 😆
For an ordinary person doing charity, privately doing it is still better I feel. Nothing stops us from being vocal about why we should support a cause and encouraging others to support that cause while still maintaining some dignified silence around how much money we are putting into it. I feel it defeats the purpose of charity to announce it or use it to make ourselves seem better to others. The purpose of charity should be about others and not about drawing more attention to ourselves.
