v - "Jeevs, where are you?"
Jeevika didn't respond so Viren went inside their bedroom. He saw her sitting down, head down and hands on her head, on the ground in a huge pile of clothes and a lot of other things taken out from their closet. Viren goes and sits next to her moving the stuff to the side and giving her a hug.
v - "What's wrong? Are you okay?"
j - "No Viren, I am not okay. I don't know what to do, I can't focus on anything"
v - "Did you try sleeping a bit? You didn't sleep at all last night. Are you still having a body ache?"
j - "I can't sleep when I have so much work to do"
v - "Jeevs there is nothing for you to do besides rest. How many times do I need to explain this to you. You need to be strong and can't just do work. That's why I made you quit your job. Come lets go eat"
j - "Viren, no leave me alone. I need to clean this"
v - "I'll do it, come lets go eat lunch then I have to give you your injection"
j - "I don't want to eat Viren. Please leave from here"
Viren didn't want to make her more angry so he left and went to check the food in the fridge. There was nothing there. Now all he could do was help Jeevika clean, then go out and grab some food. He went back inside the room and saw a helplss Jeevika. He consoled himself thinking it wasn't his Jeevika, it was just the drugs talking.
v - "Jeevs come let me help you please"
j - "viren I have to do it on my own"
Viren went up to her and hugged her tightly. He noticed how every time he did that, he could feel Jeevika's body starting to relax. She liked being hugged and she felt loved and safe.
v - "Please let me help you Jeevs"
Jeevika agreed now and they both finished cleaning up the mess. As soon as they were done, Viren wanted to take her to eat somewhere.
v - "Jeevs I'm going change from my scrubs. You go get the keys out and take your medicine bottle out from the fridge"
Jeevika went out to the kitchen and took the glass medicine bottle out from the fridge. She sat on a stool near the kitchen counter waiting for Viren to come. He came out to the kitchen and first washed his hands. He put on a pair of gloves and got out one of the syringes from drawer. He pulled up Jeevika's sleeve, rubbed a little bit of alcohol, and found a nerve to inject the syringe. Jeevika closed her eyes as she felt the cool liquid passing through her arm.
v - "Ready to go?" he said pulling her sleeve back down.
j - "I guess"
Viren held Jeevika's hand and took her out to the car, opening the door for her like a gentleman. He drove to a nearby cafe which was their favorite. He ordered their usual favorites and a cup of coffee for himself. He went back to the table and saw Jeevika. She always looked so stressed and sad.
v - "Jeevika, I was thinking that maybe we should stop this treatment for a while and give your body a break. You're not being able to handle it. Maybe we can try again after a few months"
j - "No Viren, I'm already going through this and I just want to keep trying. We've been married 5 years now Viren. People are starting to wonder why we aren't having kids. I can't take the insults from anyone anymore. I will do whatever it takes"
v - "Is harming yourself better than listening to taunts. Look at yourself Jeevika, you're having a tough time. It's okay if we don't make it through his first try. People do these treatments many times"
j - "Viren I can't. People already think you married the wrong person, who was damaged which is true. And people will point again. More than me, its you who has to take all the stress.Handling my tantrums, listening to others, going to work. Why do you do this much for me Viren"
v - "Because I love you the most in this world. More than you can even imagine. And no I'm not taking any stress, you take it all for me. Listen Jeevika if you want this treatment plan to work, you are going to have to let loose a little, especially now. If you're on so many medications and hormones, you need to be strong and look after yourself. Understand?"
j - "I'll try" she said giving him a slight smile.
They both finished their lunch and went home. They sat on their couch with Jeevika laying her head on Viren's lap. Viren's phone beeped and he checked it. It was an alarm, that today was the 11th.
v - "Jeevika"
j - "hmm"
v - "I think maybe you should try taking a test"
Jeevika got up from Viren's lap and just looked at his, straight into his eyes. He held her hand and kissed it.
v - "It's okay, just don't think about the result. Let's just try one time okay"
They both walked inside their bedroom and Jeevika went to the bathroom while Viren waited patiently outside. Jeevika came out after a minute.
v - "Did you take one or two?"
j - "Two, have to wait a few minutes" she said sitting on the bed next to Viren. She rested her head on his shoulder and he gently placed his hand on her head.
After 5 minutes both of them got up and walked inside the bathroom.
j - "Viren what does it say?" she said not being strong enough to check herself. This was probably the 20th test she had taken the past two months. She would get disheartened every time seeing it negative.
v - "It's positive Jeevs"
Jeevika got excited and looked at the two tests while holding Viren's arm close to herself. She couldn't believe what she was seeing. She looked at Viren with eyes of hope and love.He hugged her, and it was just more than hug. It was like surpassing a hurdle. They both crossed through it together.
v - "I think we should just go to the hospital and confirm it with a blood test to be sure, okay?"
Jeevika just nodded yes with tears coming out her eyes. She wiped it away looking at the happiness on Viren's face. They both left their house immediately to go to the hospital. Viren took her to his private office and told one of his interns to bring him a blood kit. The intern was waiting there for Viren and Jeevika. Viren quickly took out a sample of her blood and told the intern to take it to the lab right away.
v - "Jeevs why don't you go lay down on the bed. It might be a half hour or so before we find out"
Jeevika listened to Viren and lay down on the bed in his office. Viren was sitting at his desk just finishing his paperwork. He tried getting work done, now that he was here but all he could think about was the blood test. He knew this time if it came negative Jeevika would really be broken. Jeevika had fallen asleep waiting. The intern came after a while with a file in her hand. She knocked on the door and handed it to Viren then left. Viren's hands were shaking while reading through. He saw what he and Jeevika had been waiting years to see. Jeevika WAS PREGNANT. He was overjoyed and couldn't contain the excitement within himself anymore. He went and sat on the bed lightly tapping Jeevika. She woke up instantly and was dying to hear the good news. Viren just gave her a tight hug.
v - "You're pregnant" he said in the most loving way possible.
Those two words was what Jeevika had longed to hear. Listening to Viren say that made her feel so much less guilty than before. She was finally going to be having a baby. All the pieces of her puzzle where starting to fit together now. This was the last thing she desired for. Everything seemed so worth it now.
Six months later...
intern - "Dr. Vadhera"
viren - "Seriously do you have anything else to do but irritate me. Do you not see me reading a patients chart"
intern - "It's really important"
viren - "It better be, or you're gonna have it from me today" he said closing the chart and looking at the intern.
intern - "Uhm actually your wife"
viren - "Jeevika, what about her"
intern - "She's here at the hospital and is waiting for you in your office"
viren - "What the hell, couldn't you tell me earlier" he said running to his office.
Viren entered his office, opening the door and saw Jeevika sitting on his chair. She was breathing hard and slow breaths. Viren kneeled down next to Jeevika.
v - "What happened Jeevs? Are you okay?"
j - "Viren something doesn't feel right. Ouchh" she screamed in pain "Everything was going fine till now, I'm scared Viren" she said starting to cry
v - "Shhh calm down, nothing is going to happen" he said putting his hand on her five month swollen belly.
Viren tried finding out what was going on. He wiped her tears and smiled at Jeevika.
v - "Jeevs, our little baby is kicking you. It's nothing serious. She's trying to make you realize someone is inside you" he said smiling
j - "Really Viren" she said touching her belly. Viren placed his hand on top of hers.
j - "So its nothing bad?"
v - "No Jeevs, its not bad. It's more than good. Now you can start feeling her inside you"
j - "Viren this feels so unusual. I can't believe she is kicking"
v - "Well believe it. Now she's going to be kicking all the time. Did you come here by yourself?
j - "Yeah"
v - "Okay why don't you rest here in my office and then we can go home together. I just need to finish a few post-ops"
j - "Viren please don't leave me" she said holding his arm as he got up
v - "Don't worry. I'm just going to get the charts. I'll be right here with you"
Viren quickly went out of his office and saw two of his interns standing there.
intern 1 - "We can finish your post-ops if you want"
intern 2 - "We'll get them overviewed by Dr. Drew, just to make sure"
v - "Okay, and anytime my wife comes here again, you RUN to me understand"
intern 1 & 2 - "understood" they said running away from Viren.
at nine months!!!!
Veera and Vanshika got a phone call this morning from Viren that Jeevika's labor pains had started. The both of them where to fly out next week, but they ran to the airport in hopes of getting a flight asap. All they did was pray to god that Jeevika and her baby stay safe and healthy. They touched ground, and ran to get a taxi. They hadn't even brought any clothes or anything as they were too darn excited to meet the baby girl. As soon as they reached the hospital, Veera went to find out where Viren was. The nurse directed her and Vanshika to a room. They opened the door in such great excitement. They saw Jeevika asleep on the bed and Viren walking around the room holding their little angel. He kept a finger on his mouth telling Veera to calm down as Jeevika was asleep. Veera walked towards Viren as Vanshika walked to Jeevika's bed. Veera was so ecstatic looking at her cute niece. She was nothing but perfect and it seemed as the God had brought her right from heaven. Those cute cheeks with dimples, and her soft brown hair. She couldn't be cuter than any baby in this world. Viren handed his angel to Veera who carefully took her in her arms. Vanshika placed her hand softly on Jeevika's face. Jeevika slowly opened her eyes as Vanshika placed a kiss on her daughter-in-law.
veera - "She's such an angel bhai, and she looks just like bhabhi" she said walking to Vanshika and handing her the baby. Vanshika could stare at the innocent face all day long.
vanshika - "I can't believe this is my granddaughter, she's the best gift I've ever gotten"
veera - "Have you guys decided a name yet?" Veera asked as Vanshika handed Jeevika the baby.
Jeevika nodded and Veera looked at Viren.
veera - "What's her name?"
viren - "Aaliya"
veera - "Awww, that's such a sweet name. My little niece Aaliya"
