I believe it's a common practice in narration used to keep the interest of an audience, usually surprising them with a revelation of some hints here and there. There has been few hints dropped about his fan syndrome and stardom. How he keeps reminding her that she is not his fan. How his ego gets hurts when the small town villagers don't recognize him. This may just be the staging for her to become a big artist, for her to finally taste what stardom feels like. It is really worth all that he is doing...
