Hello everyone, here I am with a very big surprise.😃

First of all thank you guys so much for all the encouraging comments, I loved them all and I wish I could thank all of you individually but it is almost my bedtime and I wouldn't be able to post the updates if I thanked you all individually so please accept my heartfelt thanks and apology for not taking the time to thank you all individually.

Okay now on to updates, yes you are reading right, two updates to make up for not posting it yesterday and as a Thank you for the motivation.

Now please don't be disappointed by Arjun/Priya conversation, it is not time for Arjun to know everything yet, that time will come but not yet, right now he needs to focus on finding Sikandar and his mind will click things into place as he works on this but will he believe is the big question.

Part 12A

Five years ago, Maharashtra Police Academy, Nasik

Priya finished up in the horse stables then walked towards her cabin but decided to go for a walk first. Her training was almost over, she only had little over a month left then she will be going back to Delhi where she will start her first job. She will be part of a special unit; her job will be to aid in the profiling and forensics.

She was excited as well as sad to be leaving the academy. Few months back she wouldn't have been sad at all but now things have changed for her. She had found a friend who was more like a big brother to her in Sameer and she had fallen in love with Arjun here at the academy, for her this was a big life altering events.

She stopped at the end of the path then sat on a big rock to gaze down at city of Nasik visible from top of the hill. Maintaining her friendship with Sameer will be an easy task but she still hasn't come up with a way to deal with her feelings for Arjun.

She had gradually started distancing herself from him to avoid feeling too much; it already hurt too much to be with him knowing his feelings for her are not the same as hers are for him. He had always treated her as friend and she didn't want to take the risk of him finding out how she felt for him and feel sorry for her.

Priya was about to walk back when she heard someone on the path that lead to where she was sitting. She turned to see Sameer walking towards her with determination etched clearly on his face. Busted, she thought and waited for him to reach her.

Arjun walked towards the horse stables with quick strides; he had tried his best to leave ten minutes ago in order to catch Priya before she left the stables but one thing or another had kept him from leaving and now he was already late. He increased his pace; he had been trying to talk to her for the past two days but for one reason or another he had been unable to catch up with her.

He felt as though she has been avoiding him for the past two weeks and he wanted to know if she was upset about something. He also wanted to confirm what he suspected of his own feelings for her. In the past few weeks as he spent more time with her his confusion regarding his feelings for Priya were clearing up for him.

He had finally figured out why he was so fascinated with Priya. Why he constantly thought about her. At first he couldn't figure out what was happening to him and he hadn't even talked to Sameer about any of this because it was a new feeling for him but now he realized that he was seeing Priya as more than a friend, that he wanted more than friendship from her.

Now he wanted to see if she also felt for him the way he was beginning to feel for her. He knew he couldn't ask her directly but he could observe first then say something to her. Priya was the most reserved and private person he knew and she was hard to read even by him so he will have to be careful on how he proceeds with his feelings for her.

Arjun was about to enter the stables when someone called his name from the back; he turned and frowned when he saw Shukla and couple of his friends walk towards the stables. Arjun crossed his arms across his chest and waited for them to come to him.

"Hey Raute, are you looking for Priya?" Shukla asked him. He didn't wait for Arjun to answer then pointed toward the path on the right side of the stable. "I just saw her and your friend Sameer walking towards the lookout point on this path."

Arjun uncrossed his arms then started walking towards the path but was once again halted by Shukla. "I wouldn't go interrupt them if I were you," Arjun again looked at him with a frown.

Arjun stepped closer to Shukla, "Spit it out Shukla and stop beating around the bushes. What exactly are trying to tell me?"

Shukla laughed snidely, "oh, don't tell me that you are not aware of your friends' feelings for each other. The whole academy is buzzing with their love story."

Arjun knew better than to listen to Shukla but he still asked, "What are you talking about Shukla?"

He just shrugged his shoulders, "If you don't believe me then see for yourself." He said as he gestured towards the path.

Arjun just shook his head and walked away not paying mind to what Shukla said at first but seed of doubt was planted and he couldn't help but wonder if there was some truth to what Shukla was saying. Had he been so busy in worrying about his own feelings to miss what was going on between Priya and Sameer?

Unaware of what was going in Arjun's mind regarding their friendship Sameer and Priya sat side by side on the rock as they looked out at the city.

Sameer didn't say anything at first and waited to see if Priya would say anything but when she continued to stay silent he looked at her and sighed. "Why are you avoiding Arjun?"

She immediately turned to him and he saw a flash of guilt reflected in her eyes before she looked away from him, "I am not avoiding him, why would you say that Sam?"

Sameer grabbed her arm and made her look at him. "Don't lie to me Priya and I know why you are avoiding him too but I wanted to see if you know why you are avoiding him."

Priya shook her head stubbornly, "Stop it Sameer, I don't know what you are talking about."

Sameer gritted his teeth, he wished he could drill some sense into the two most oblivious people in his life. He has been a witness to both Arjun and Priya's growing feelings for each other and kept waiting for one or the other to realize that there is more than feelings for friendship between the two but to his frustration neither was ready to face what was in front of their faces.

He had tried his best to not say anything to either of them but when he saw Priya start to pull away from Arjun he decided to step in and confront Priya first. "Why are you afraid to be alone with him Priya? Why deny you love him?"

Priya wanted to deny loving Arjun but knew Sameer well enough to know that he wouldn't let her get away with it so turned to him with a heavy heart. "I am not afraid him but my own feeling for him. I am afraid I am no match for him and can never be anything more than a friend to him."

Sameer was shocked to hear Priya sound so insecure about her own appeal. He had never seen more confident or more self-assured woman like Priya than why did she feel as though she wouldn't appeal to Arjun. It wasn't even about her looks because Priya may not be the most beautiful woman but she wasn't unappealing either.

"Why do you feel you are not his match Priya? You have so many things in common and I know Arjun well enough to know that he has never pursued a girl to the extent that he did just to be friends with her. He is a bit slow, when it comes to the matters of the heart but I am sure he has same feelings for you that you have for him." Sameer argued.

Priya shook her head again, "It is not only that Sam, but you know I was an only child and when my parents were killed I went to live with my uncle and aunt but things were never the same again for me. He has a big family, who loves him and want the best for him and I don't think I could ever fit in with them. I wouldn't even know how to behave with them."

Sameer wasn't sure if that was all but tried to clear her doubts in a best way possible. "First of all you are worried about things that are not even relevant to how you feel about Arjun and second thing I know Arjun's family well enough to know that they will love whoever Arjun chooses as his life partner so why worry about those things before you have even explored things between you and Arjun?"

He held up his hand when she opened her mouth to speak. "Wait let me finish first" he paused then continued, "What I am saying is if you give up before you even know what is between the two of you then you will regret it. Why not give it a chance first? You still have few weeks before we finish the training to decide where we will be stationed so think about it at least and stop avoiding him otherwise you will never know how he feels about you."

Priya thought about what Sameer said, could Arjun be interested in her? She never thought about his likes and dislikes or what type of girl would appeal to him. She had assumed she wouldn't be his type based on his vibrant and outgoing personality. Could she have been wrong about him? Should she take a chance and see if he has any feelings for her?

She reached a decision after a moment and looked at Sameer. "Let me think about it Sameer then I will decide."

Sameer didn't push her, he was happy that she would at least think about it. He smiled and placed an arm around her to give her a quick reassuring hug, "Good girl, now remember you owe me one."

Priya laughed at his attempt to lighten her mood and teased him back, "And I know exactly how to pay you back."

Sameer immediately stood up to avoid the subject of her best friend and changed the topic. "Never mind about that, we have to go back before we are missed."

Priya just shook her head and joined him on the path to walk back. Neither of them noticed a lone figure standing far off the path who was watching them.

Arjun waited until Sameer and Priya were not visible from where he was standing before he also started walking towards the main part of the academy. He hadn't been able to hear the conversation between the two of them but what he saw had made him realize that his feelings for Priya didn't matter anymore.

If only Arjun had asked Sameer about his relationship with Priya instead of making his own assumptions things would have been different for all of them.

Present

If only…

Arjun leaned his head against the window as he came back to the present. He is beginning to hate the person he has become but thinking about the past also increased his guilt. He shouldn't be thinking about anyone else but his wife and fulfilling the promise of avenging her death.

He made his choices long time ago and to regret those decisions now would be disrespecting his relationship with his wife. He had committed to his marriage and Roshni with his whole heart and couldn't regret that now. So what if there had been a part of him that he had kept hidden from her? So what if piece of his heart had been stolen long before he met and married Roshni?

Priya went to stand next to Arjun and held out the cup of tea to him. Whatever he was thinking about still had him too preoccupied to notice her or the tea she held out to him. "Arjun?"

Arjun turned to see Priya standing next to him with a cup of tea, he took the tea then turned back to look outside as he took the first sip of the tea. He glanced down at the tea in his cup and his lips quirked up in an almost smile as he looked at her. "You remembered how I like my tea."

Priya shrugged her shoulders and looked away from him. That almost smile and the small sparkle in his eyes had made her heart skip a beat, she tightened her hand on the teacup when she felt a small tremor go through her. Last thing she wanted was for him to see how much he affected her.

She turned back to him when she saw him turn toward the view outside again. "You said you wanted to know more about Sikandar but I am not sure what more I can tell you that is not written in the file I showed you tonight."

Arjun didn't take offense at the change of subject. It just fully hit him that things would never be same between them. "Yes I read what was in the file but there are too many lose ends and I am trying to connect them. For instance Vikram was second in command in the company that his brother Sikandar owned. How is Malhotra related to Sikandar and Vikram? You were with them for about eight months so you must have made the connection so why then all that is not in the file you showed us?"

The moment of truth has arrived, Priya thought, but how much could she get away with hiding from the sharp mind of Arjun Raute is the big question. One thing that she won't do is hurt him by telling him the whole truth.

They say that the truth will set you free but what good is that truth when it can completely shatter someone's world. She couldn't do that to him, she won't do that to him. She will tell him what is relevant to Sikandar and her investigation only. She just hoped that she is able to do so without alerting him to the fact that she wasn't telling him everything.

Swati's apartment

Sameer contemplated on calling Priya to check on her but couldn't bring himself to press the button that would connect him to her. Had he done the right thing by letting Arjun take her home?

Swati placed the two coffee cups on the table then sat next to Sameer and observed his preoccupation with the phone. She had noticed him take the phone in his hand several times during dinner after their talk. "What's wrong Sam?"

Sameer's lips automatically turned up in a smile when he heard Swati refer to him as Sam. Only she, Arjun and Priya had called him Sam everyone else always referred to him as Sameer or Rathore. "I am debating on calling Priya; Arjun offered to drive her home and she was not very happy with me when she left."

Swati didn't know how to react to that, on one hand she wanted Priya to move on in life but on the other she was very worried for her friend. She wished for everything to be over soon so that Priya can have some peace at least.

"I wish I hadn't talked her into giving Arjun a chance on that day," Sameer voiced his thoughts out loud. "I am still not sure how I had misunderstood Arjun's feelings for Priya."

Swati also had the same thought in her head. Granted she had observed Arjun's interactions with Priya on that one day that she had visited the academy but she had also felt that Arjun had more than friendship in mind when he had looked at Priya.

"May be we all saw what we wanted to see and Arjun really had looked at Priya as nothing more than a friend." She said to Sameer.

Sameer shook his head, "No, I think there was more but something stopped him from fully realizing what he felt. I don't understand why he distanced himself from us then called me three months after we all left the academy to tell me to meet him for dinner that night and to bring Priya along with me."

"That was the night he introduced you and Priya to Roshni?" Swati asked. She remembered how Sameer had called her up to let her know what had happened and for her to be with Priya that night. She had stayed with Priya that night and consoled her while she watched her friend lose all hopes of ever being loved by Arjun. The most devastating part had been that Priya had lost to her own cousin Roshni.

"You know things would have been so much easier for Priya if it had been anyone but Roshni whom Arjun had fallen in love with." Swati said to Sameer.

Sameer sighed then put his phone away; he would apologize to Priya in the morning. He turned to Swati and pulled her in his arms, "I know but what is done is done now we have to make sure that Priya makes it through, the next few weeks, months or however long it takes to catch Sikandar, without more heartbreak.

Swati placed her head on his shoulder and hugged him back as she hoped for the same and for everyone to be safe as they dealt with Sikandar.

Part 12B

She had known that the sharp mind of his wouldn't miss anything and had also conveyed this to the commissioner who had told her to share information with him at her own discretion. "What do you remember about your confrontation with Sikandar? Do you remember what he looked like? Or anything that he might have said to you?" Priya needed to know this before she tells him what evidence she had collected while undercover.

Arjun shook his head as hazy images flashed through his mind, "He was there but the image is hazy from the drug they had injected in me. I felt as though I knew who he was but couldn't think clearly to remember where I would have seen him. He may have said something but I don't recall it exactly. Why?"

Priya avoided looking at him as she thought about how to tell him things without revealing everything. "When I met Vikram I did not know he was Sikandar's brother all I knew was that he is the second in command to the CEO of the company that owned the modeling agency."

Priya turned to lean against the wall as she sipped her tea. "All the information we had related to the ownership of the agency had been second hand, the name Sikandar was mentioned more than one time but there was no proof that he was behind the human trafficking in Delhi. As far as everyone knew Sikandar had made a big name in Mumbai and he had well established connections here in Mumbai not in Delhi. What we didn't know was that Sikandar was name to hide behind for all the illegal activities while maintaining a good reputation in public."

Arjun had suspected that Sikandar was in fact a very reputable man hiding in plain sight so to speak. He had done his best to catch the man but each time he had been few steps behind which had alerted him to the fact that Sikandar was always one step ahead of him because someone had from the department was on his payroll.

"At first I was alarmed when Vikram wanted me to come to Mumbai to work for the company, I thought maybe my cover was blown so we debated on continuing the investigation then finally decided to see how far we can go with it." Priya looked down at her cup of coffee and tried not to remember how scared she had been at the time, not of getting caught but dying before she fulfilled the promises she made to herself.

Arjun turned to lean his shoulder against the window pane then studied her, "That was quiet a risk you too, why?"

Priya didn't turn to look at him just shrugged her shoulders, "We have to face those sort of risk everyday as police officers, I already knew this when I decided to become one." The truth was she had felt adrift for a long time and really didn't have anything to lose if they had known who she was at the time.

"Anyway once I came here I was surprised the offer of job was real and Vikram wanted me to be the head of accounting department, it was later that I found out that he hired me because I didn't say anything about the discrepancy in the agency's numbers so he thought I was trustworthy to handle the big things." Priya walked over to the table to place her coffee cup on the table then entwined her hands in front of her and kept her back to him.

"For a month I recorded everything I can to use later as evidence never suspecting that Vikram had another motive for bringing me to Mumbai."

Arjun straightened up becoming alert to the hesitation in her voice. His heart thudded in his chest as he imagined what Vikram would have wanted from Priya. He knew what was coming but he asked anyway. "What?" He asked sharply.

Priya flinched at the sharpness of his voice, "It seems my cover story was too good," She turned towards Arjun. "About a month after I started working for him, Vikram came to me and told me about his maternal grandfather. He told me about his mother who had eloped with his father because the grandfather suspected that Vikram's father was not as reputable as he made himself out to be."

Priya walked back to the window, "The grandfather was proven right apparently; to make the long story short Vikram's parents were killed when he and his older brother were teenagers. This is when the grandfather stepped into raise both boys, but unfortunately Vikram's older brother was already walking in his father's footsteps. So the grandfather placed a condition on both boys, they had to maintain a good reputation and not tarnish his name or else they would never inherit any of his wealth."

She had almost believed that Vikram was innocent of everything but he had proven her wrong quickly. "Both boys accepted the condition because at the time they needed their grandfather and his money."

"Anyway in order to maintain their good reputation they also needed a life partner with a good reputation and Vikram thought I would make the perfect girl to take home to meet his grandfather. He couldn't just take me to meet him after knowing me for only a month so he asked me to think about marrying him and they would go visit his grandfather after about six months." It had all happened so fast that Priya hadn't known what to do at first.

"A marriage proposal?" Arjun murmured, his jaw clenched and his fingers curled around the coffee cup more tightly at the thought of Priya being that close to Vikram. He made himself relax and not think about what she had to do in order to get the evidence they needed to catch Sikandar.

He hadn't let himself think about it back then either and had kept his interactions with Priya and Sameer to minimum during the investigation because he hadn't wanted Roshni to know he was working closely with two of his friends. For whatever reason whenever he had tried to talk about Priya and Sameer, Roshni always got upset so he continued to keep his distance from his friends.

After the first time he had asked Roshni about her and Priya's relationship he had never brought up Priya's name in any of their conversations again and he didn't want to take the chance of mentioning her name even accidentally in his conversations with Roshni. It had put a slight strain on their relationship because he had been forced to make excuses for his absence from home and the late night phone calls but he hadn't let it affect it to a point of no return. Had he known that keeping Roshni in the dark would have put her in danger he would have taken the risk of hurting her by telling her everything. She would have stayed alert and not be taken the way she was taken by Sikandar's men.

"Yeah, a marriage proposal; I was too shocked at first but thought the six months would give us enough time to gather all the evidence and find the face behind Sikandar." She never once thought that she would be recognized by anyone or that her decision to agree to Vikram's proposal would land her in deeper trouble.

Arjun still couldn't believe how far she had gone in to find the face behind Sikandar then his mind focused on what she said, "Vikram's older brother, meaning Sikandar, he must have introduced you to him at one time or another." This realization raised more questions in Arjun's mind. If she had known who Sikandar is then why is his real name not listed in the file? Why is it still a big secret? He still didn't know how Priya got out and where she went for those two days they had been unable to contact her? Did she carry out the evidence with her or not? And if she did then why is it not filed anywhere?

Priya glanced at Arjun from the corner of her eye but didn't dare turn to him. She wouldn't be able to lie to him if she were to face him. "Yes Vikram did introduce me to his elder brother, but unfortunately it was on the same day that someone recognized me. I had to disappear that same night."

"Who was the person that recognized you and how did you know that you were recognized?" Arjun asked.

Priya shrugged her shoulders, "I don't know, Avinash came to me that night and took me out before Vikram and his men could get to me."

"And the evidence?" Arjun made a mental note to look into Avinash's background soon. No matter how deep his cover Arjun will find out his real identity one way or another.

"Couldn't bring it out with me." Priya said without hesitation. She couldn't tell him that she always kept the flash drive with her and it was with her when she went into hiding but in the end she had to give it up.

"So all your work was wasted and we still have no way to link Sikandar to Malhotra." Arjun said and waited for her reaction.

When she turned to him with shock he knew he hit the bull's eye. Nikhil Malhotra was Sikandar. "When did you know that Nikhil and Sikandar are one and the same?" He knew she said that Vikram introduced her to his elder brother on the day someone recognized him but Arjun is also sure that Priya had connected the dots long before that.

"As soon as I started working for the company." Priya admitted.

"And you didn't bother to mention this to any of us." Arjun said angrily. Had she not trusted any of them to tell them what she had discovered?

Priya shook her head, "Yes I did mention it to Sameer and our seniors but not right away and I had no evidence to prove this. I could have been wrong. No one wanted to take the risk of accusing a well known and successful businessman of crimes without some solid evidence."

While that was true Arjun still felt as if something was missing. He needed to think about everything from the beginning and do his own investigation on certain things. Why did he feel as though Priya is protecting something or someone but what or who?

Priya held her breath, she went over her words again to try to figure out at which point she had screwed up but couldn't pinpoint what it is she said that is stopping him from believing her. Then it hit her he is too astute to not realize that she would have had the evidence on her at all times so she wouldn't have come out without the evidence.

"Are you sure you don't know who recognized you and blew your cover?" Arjun asked again because that was the most unbelievable part of her story. "How did Avinash know your cover was blown?"

Priya sighed then turned to him, "No I don't know who recognized me. As for Avinash, he overheard the conversation between Sikandar and Vikram and immediately came to get me out. That is all I know."

Arjun moved to the table to place his cup beside her then turned towards the door. He needed to go back to the file and look at the names in that file to see who would have known Priya to recognize her. It had to be someone she had known in Delhi since she only knew him and Roshni in Mumbai.

He turned back towards her, "One more thing, did you ever run into Roshni in those six months?"

Priya's heart stopped for a moment, it took all of her will to not react to his sudden question. "No of course not, why would I have run into Roshni?" She asked.

"No reason at all, I just thought I should ask since Nikhil was a main benefactor of the school where Roshni worked at and I know there was a charity event held for the school that Roshni had been part of. I just thought you might have run into her since you would have been present also at the event." Arjun watched her closely for a reaction but couldn't see anything specific to tell him if she was hiding something from him.

Priya knew exactly which even he was talking about but she hadn't been present at that event and he knew this also because that was the night she had met him and Sameer to give them information on a big arms shipment that was arriving in Mumbai the following week.

"I only knew of one event and that was on the night that I met you and Sameer to share some information." Priya was aware he was trying to trick her into saying something to prove to himself that she was hiding something.

Arjun had known she wouldn't be tricked so easily but he had to try anyway. There was something he should remember about that night, but he just couldn't figure out what was bothering him about it.

He turned towards the door again and this time he didn't stop just walked out without saying anything at all.

Priya sat down in the closest chair to her as her whole body started shaking with tremors. She placed her head in her hands as the tension drained out of her entire body. She knew he wasn't sold on her story entirely but what she had told him had all been the truth up to the point where she had to disappear.

She also knew he is going to question about the evidence again and it is going to be hard to convince him why she had to give up the evidence or how Sikandar had flushed her out of her hiding place.

Priya finally gave into the tears that she had been holding in since the moment she had seen Arjun after three long years.

On the other side of the city

A man entered the lobby of the shabbiest hotel in the slummiest part of the city. He didn't stop until he had reached his room; he threw the key on the dresser then went around to check if anything had been disturbed in his room. When he was sure everything was in place he took out a throw away phone he had purchased earlier and dialed a number.

He sat down on the bed then propped his back against the pillow as he waited for someone to pick up the phone on the other side.

"Hello?" Avinash felt the tension drain out of his body as he heard the soft voice of his wife. "Hey Sweetheart, how was your day?"

He closed his eyes as he imagined the pleasant smile on his wife's face when she heard his voice. "Hello to you too, my day was good, how about you?"

He hesitated then just came out and said what she had been waiting to hear every night for the past week. "I saw her today."

There you have it. I am waiting to see how many of you think that Arjun subconsciously he knows who Priya is protecting but his mind is unable to believe.

Part A

Flashbacks or the present scenes; Can't pick one.. Enjoyed reading them both.. Making assumptions on the basis of half- heard talks is utterly dangerous and one often ends up paying the price.. so did Arjun..
I could totally relate to Priya and her insecurities regarding her feelings.. it's such a common occurence yet you've penned it down beautifully..
I've always maintained that I adore Sameer and Swati for being the friends they are.. I loved the way he knocked sense into her..

But alas, the man in question was a victim of 'being in the wrong place at the wrong time' .. Only if he had overheard them..
And Shukla!! That was a brilliant move.. Arjun went in with a pre conceived notion and that undid it..

Swati and Sameer scenes are like a breath of fresh air amidst the livewired tension.. Hope the truth behind Arjun's decision is revealed to them soon..

Now, this is my favorite of the two... Needless to say, why!
Could the conversation have been more edgy! I doubt..

I've had to read this one twice to completely grasp how and why Priya ended up meeting him.. You've indeed woven the tale finely, Shilpa.. 😃

My My!! Arjun ka palatkar sawal karna.. Stole the show hands down!

Now the Arjun Rawte that we know and understand isn't going to sit back and believe everything his friend has told him, is he? He is of course going to dig deeper..

For once, sparing the trauma coming along with it, I'm soo looking forward to his private investigation.. 😊

I am soo relieved that she finally broke down and cried.. She needs to.. The hurt and trauma is only going to get nastier now on..
