Episode 184 Discussion: 1st Feb 2013

Welcome to the Episode discussion thread which we call as Viewer's and Reader's Respite. That's very apt, don't you think ? 😉. And that proves our objective.

Objective behind the thread is

It helps in keeping the forum clean without much litter. People just need to fall in a habit.
We can have it like breathers at first followed by analysis.
It also helps like-minded souls and pals bond and gel together to drop in their thoughts for themselves as breathers and for their friends as a peep into the episode and for others to post their reviews.

Episode 184 Discussion - EOD Summary

Adventures of Rishbala: Trip to Ajja-Ajji's Village.

Part I- Who is the Superstar? RK or Madhubala ?

Events of the episode

RK and Madhu "Superstar-Fan" tease leads them to skid the car off the road. Car fails to start. They need a mechanic. The cell phone network is not reachable and so they are left with no choice but to take the help from passing by bullock cart party of a man and three children, who have recognized RK as Superstar RK.
RK in the bullock cart is annoyed at the children's cacophony of advertising his coming to the village and expresses his anguish at the damage of shoes caused by the kid. Madhu teases him and reminds him that his life is going to be like that when they are going to have three kids like them. Madhu ecstatically tells RK how she is happy that Superstar RK is going to leave all his stardom and come away with her.
Upon entering the village of the children, they find out that mechanic has gone to a different village. Rishbala plan to leave. But the whole assembly of village people; who are fans of Superstar RK, protest about this and they ask them to stay back and that soon the mechanic will be called for.
Now the problem is where Rishbala are going to spend their time waiting for the mechanic. Enter Ajja, the ancient man of the village, who has AC in his house. And biggest twist is that Ajja does not recognize RK as a Superstar. Ajja's grandchild balckmails him to accept villagers request to offer hospitality to Superstar RK and his wife Madhu. Ajja agrees and takes them to his home, though he keeps calling Rishabh with different names such as Rushidhar, Rushi etc. RK is annoyed.
Enter Ajji. When RK is introduced as Superstar RK, she asks for him full name. She takes a steep dislike to RK and finds fault with his name. However, she takes a deep liking to Madhu and expresses her pleasure at Madhubala name. To RK's dismay and frustration, she calls Madhu as a Superstar material and to take her blessing before they leave.
She offers them a room. RK wants to turn on AC. Ajji tells them that first it has to be cleaned. Madhu offers hers and RK's help to clean it up. RK is upset and Madhu taunts him to look at himself in mirror admiring his Superstar RK looks. RK snubbed looks on at Madhu. Episode ends.

Going by the TRP rating comment made by RK and yesterday's cute car incident looks like RK wants to start spending the max time with Madhu. Now that most of his promises he made to her are completed and danger like Ballu is out of the way. The tracks are headed that way while they might experience very minor obstacles together like getting stuck in a village and come out stronger because of them. Also it seems as if RK might have minor adjustment issues living like a common man, walking into shit and getting his shoes ruined, and dealing with villagers. But hopefully Madhu will be by his side lol. Madhu explained to him today that this life is very much like the life RK asked for. It was symbolic he asked for three kids and they ran into three kids. When RK got irritated with them Madhu told him to get used to it. Then reminded him that she is by his side and when they leave she will always be with him. I think RK will end up helping Madhu in doing the chores.

Hi everyone - I am just here asking a question and leaving the analysis to you smarties!😆

Why do they set the counterpoint to RK's superstar existence in the gaon? I thought it didn't make sense, at least not as a trial run for an "aam zindagi." This looked so OTT - suddenly in the gaonwalle clothes, riding bhel-ghadi, meeting people who do not know who he is, stepping in gobar, etc.

I thought it was strange for two reasons. First, because if he wanted to leave all behind and live a regular life, the easiest way would be to melt into the anonymity of a crowd, perhaps in a large town. If you take Salman Khan or SRK or someone of this type as an example, village people are very much aware of them - there is not so much of diversion in the village; media is there, though, and provides a distraction to the point where stars are very much known. I would have believed an elder refuting RK's superstar status not because he had never heard of him, but because he preferred someone else, perhaps from an earlier time, as a true star.

And second, because they presented such a stereotypical gaon situation - even with full complement of central-casting characters: grumpy dada, understanding and wise dadi, cute wise-cracking children, etc. By the time RK has been reclad in dhoti and is dancing (looks like monkey dancing for coins😕) in the street for the children I was just thinking this is too much now yaar.

I saw on the forum though that many liked the sweetness of the episode - so - just my confused pov.

I enjoyed the episode. Thoroughly. 😃

I liked the Marathi actors and the welcome Vijay Kadam got with that Bigul Sound.

And My Marathi Mulgis here (not just MM, but Ananya and Leela as well),

Please be kind to translate to us what Sushma Bhagat and Vijay Kadam spoke in Marathi.

I found it very interesting that Ajji...(Sushma Bhagat) looks at Madhubala's OLD TIME filmy name, reminisces yesteryears Madhubala and fondly teases her. She said that MB is a STAR MATERIAL. For me the BALL HAS BEEN DROPPED by CVs for the FIRST TIME. 👏

I liked RK Mansion scene as well. Noways Dips does not hurt me because Sikky takes care of her. Wow!!! This is what I always asked of, replace the incestuous drama to make RK weaker and bring a natural Dips in her own capacity. Clearly her migraines and her constant work to be good Bahu before Radhaji is frustrating and stressing her out. I remember once she said about Kuku and Sikky, "Baap ne career bigaad diya aur Bete ne zindagi bigaad di"

And finally my advice to Film City after reading Charu's comments about Village in yesterday's ED thread over Page 6.

The sets were designed by V Shantaram in 60"s 70"s I guess. At that time Village looked like that. So my advise to officials is, please upgrade the village sets to look contemporary with changing India now. Yes thatched houses are still there in villages, but along side thatched houses, REC rooftop houses are also there, that too multi-storied. I have been to many villages in Telengana district of AP. Its a mix of ancient and modern amenities in villages.

Another thing I liked about the episode.

The love and romance gets better for Rishbala. Today I felt for the first time after Love Confession post KC track days, that Rishabh and Madhu were uncontrollably getting infatuated with each other. They seemed mindlessly getting attracted and yet not being able to do anything about it. They were seeing each other's new avatars in new setting. This crazy period of romance from other angles, usually always comes when we change the regular setting. We call add "spice to life"...Zest of life.

I just loved how they ignored themselves and were adoring the other and feeling so happy there being with each other in all of this. If this was a film, something seriously sensual would happen...just that yeh TV hai Bhai !!!

And one more thing...why I felt Rishabh name was not liked by Ajji. He was being called Superstar RK. And this old woman obviously might have been nostalgic to Superstar RK (Raj Kapoor or Rajesh Khanna) in her years and so she might be trying to uphold the previous era superstars by demeaning this current superstar's name...Just a feeling I got when I watched the episode. Case of Fandom !!!!

About Ajja and Ajji both not giving Bhav to the two city dwellers, it is very natural. Villagers are known to snub City Dwellers in harsh and also in sweet manner even as they adulate them to an irritating point. That's how they defend themselves by taking pride in their lifestyle by taking a dig at the outside challenge as displayed through mesmerizing foreigners to their land.

Over the "Aalishan, modern" bed...other than that, what I did not like.That Ajji knows that RK and Madhu sleep separately and so quilts given separately just like in RK mansion. Can they make it all less obvious to viewers and bring in things naturally in time. No one puts a quilt on the bed in daytime in traditional households. They stay in the closets. Sometimes, the set designers/art directors are two robotic. Sigh!!!

Another feel good episode. But it was simply brilliant and so natural. If one ignored the fact that villages are no longer all thatched roofs.

RK and Madhu's car breaks down. And when RK goes to check what's wrong, he comes away with a black face. Madhu's reaction to try and take RK's photo was sweet and so natural.

But the smear on Madhu's face kept changing shape and intensity throughout. Vanishing completely by the time the scene was over.

The best part was their reaction to the three kids in the bullock cart yelling out "RK! Superstar RK!"

RK was just reveling in the adulation happy to show his biwi that everyone in the entire world is his fan. And this continued throughout the episode.

The later scenes of the autograph and then when the kids in their eagerness dragging RK through the cow dung ... were just as good. The reactions of a city-bred person to such a setting was spot on.

Dips and Sikky's scene was just so-so. I thought that the Bhatia's were also going for the picnic? Or at the very least Radha was? Whatever happened to that plan?

The whole village gathered to see the first and probably in only celebrity they would ever see face-to-face. Madhu was getting annoyed with this constant chant of "Superstar Hero RK!" and is absolutely happy to see someone else who is as unaffected by RK's stature as she is. RK's reaction again .. this episode was just as I had hoped. The scenes easily flowed from one point to another.

When they reached the home where they were to stay .. I've noticed this often enough .. The reactions of my relatives back in my village when I wear jeans is even worse.

But I didn't like the women's behavior. Sure you find RK's real name to be weird but it is plain rude to say it like that to his face. When she mentioned Madhubala being more of heroine's name and having the face of one .. Madhu was amused for her it was a joke, RK also did not take it seriously. Wonder what it means for Madhubla's entry as a superstar. But it was the first time it was mentioned. Is it an indication of the track coming soon?

As far as chores go .. RK will help out but in his own style.

All this episode shows me is that RK is simply not cut out for the life of a village simpleton. Of course he will gradually, with Madhu's continuous support, get used to it and even enjoy its simpleness .. I don't think that he can live like this day in day out. There is nothing there for his creativity to flourish. As a vacation for a few days the village life is good. It allows you to relax. But to live it .. Not for RK.

The precap 🤣 I can't help it .. seeing RK in a dhoti was hilarious. But his dancing not so much. Well, VD had said he wasn't a good dancer. This is proof enough for those who kept insisting he was being modest.

What was the point of this entirely superfluous episode? If it was to mock RK, his 'loving' biwi succeeded. The fake village with the equally fake patil got my goat. There were too many loopholes in the epi to count. If it is the CVs' intention to set up the scene for some grand bucolic romance next week they could have done it with so much more finesse. If not, I fail to see the point.

Two moments of note that had me semi-interested :

1. When Madhu reminds him this is how it will be when they leave it all and go away.

2. When the woman tells Madhu she should be a heroine. Are we finally, finally (finally!) getting a whiff of the serial's main track?

Maybe this entire village drama will convince RK he's better off in his mansion and the city and he'll give up plans of going away! That will be a big plus indeed..

Honestly speaking Team MB has surprised me again, (after the whole Sholay style sequence) in a pleasant way! I was thinking that ,what's with the village track?Its so not my cup of tea! Was pretty sure the show is going down the drain! But no, the scenes were refreshingly pleasant and enjoyable! Goes to show that well written scenes and bang on acting by the leads can make any situation believable, just like the Sholay Sequence! I was really skeptical when I saw the teasers, but have to say Team MB does have a magic touch, that sells even the illogical and impossible looking! A word for DD and her apt n cute expressions! VD was exceptional as the akdu with tongue in cheek replies! They both made the whole experience enjoyable! Lets wait n watch how long this lasts!

OMG...kya episode tha...full on hilarious 😆...I enjoyed watching it...I think its been a long long time since we got such lighthearted yet no filler episode in MEIEJ...

RK was irritated throughout...first bcoz of the kids, n later wen the elderly couple refuses to acknowledge his Superstar status...bacche bhi ready made mil gaye RK ko...2 ladkiya aur ek ladka...🤣 aur biwi bhi khush...I liked how he seemed so pleased with himself and was smirking at his biwi when the kids were asking him for autograph..he seemed so proud of himself...very RKish...😎

What dialogues:

'mai tumhe is budhape me taklif nai dena chahta' 🤣

The interaction between RK and Madhu...when Ajja refutes RKs heroism...was too good...his smirks, her taunts..😆 😆

On a serious note, the village trip does seem to hold lot of symbolism for RK and Madhu's relationship adding a new dimension to it , with them getting a taste of how life of a common man is...doing household chores on ur own, coping up with non recognition n den dealing with adulation...more so for RK...a first hand experience for him on the adjustments and sacrifices he will have to make in his new life...Hmm..interesting...!!

The elderly couple not recognizing RK can be possible...quite a few people from older generation do not follow 21st century cinema...I know a few myself...It would have been unbelievable had they shown younger generations not recognizing him... but they didn't do that..everyone else seems to be knowing him and following his movies..😎

I know lot of people are not so happy with this track. Few scenes were OTT, like him stepping in gobar, traveling in bullock cart, the lady insulting RK unnecessarily...I could not make any sense as to why she was ghurofying him so much..n started criticizing him right-away, 'Rishabh' naam ka itna apmaan 😭 and starts praising Madhu...again,so typical..not done yaar...its ok if u don't know that he is a superstar...but itna insult to mat karo bechare ka..

But over all, I liked the episode..👍🏼
