Why Did The Vampire Diaries' Paul Wesley Get Kicked Out of School?

Was The Vampire Diaries' Paul Wesley (Stefan Salvatore) a high school screw up? Kind of, but only if you consider having a tough time juggling high school and a soap opera career screwing up.

Paul shared some stories (and looked sexy in a suit, since if you're into that sort of thing) in the January 2013 issue of August Man Magazine.

Paul, who found early success on soap operas, remembers the early days of his career as, "both stressful and unbelievably rewarding." As a high schooler, he was going into Manhattan several times a week to film. While it was "an escape from the typical New Jersey suburban life," this dual existence had its down side: "At the same time, schools were kicking me out for poor attendance."

Don't worry, Paul bounced back! Now it may be hard for fans to imagine him as anything other as brooding vampire Stefan on TVD, but Paul has no such trouble. "Every time I read a great script, I fall in love with a character and get lost in the idea of playing him," he said. That's why he doesn't have one dream role in particular — except for maybe the role of director!

While Paul is currently attached to two films as both an actor and a producer, he has his sights set on another chair entirely. "I intend to forge a career as a director as well."

OK, Paul. We'll support your director dreams, as long as you promise to spend time in front of the camera too!
