Quote: Even if life gives you 100,000 reasons to give up, you should still search for that one reason to keep holding on.
Chapter 2: Keep Your Head Up
The gang made their way towards VP sir's office to find out how much trouble they were in at the moment.
Rey looked around at his friends who didn't seem too worried, but then again why would they be, they weren't the ones who started the fight. He glanced over at Taani and shook his head smiling, she was something else.
When they got to the office VP sir let them in.
"I've been doing a lot of thinking about the fights that have been going on between the dancers and the singers. I would have thought that after fighting for dance, the dancers would understand where the singers are coming from. I also thought that being friends ya'll wouldn't get into such fights. So in this situation I have made a decision that will impact both groups." VP said.
"Abey yeh VP sir kya kehna chata hai?" Vicky whispered to Nil.
"Dude sh!" Nil responded.
"Since each of you have an important competition coming up I have decided that the dancers will only dance to songs sung and produced by the singers and the singers will only use dance steps choreographed by the dancers." VP sir said.
'WHAT!" All of them yelled.
"Yes, therefore Rey your team of dancers going to the dance off can chose the songs you wish for the singers to sing and produce and Taani your group of singers going to the voice off can decide what type of choreography you want the dancers to teach you." VP sir said. "This way you will have to spend time with each other rehearsing, you will have to learn to get along, and who knows maybe you'll learn to respect each other's differences and appreciate the other art."
"What but sir how will we even manage all of this?" Rey said.
"You will find a way, now out of my office all of you." VP sir excusing all of them.
The gang left VP sir's office and were walking down the hall, all lost in their own thoughts. Rey looked at his tense friends and decided to do something to make them all feel better.
"Hey guys party tonight my house." He randomly spit out grabbing all of their attention.
"What?" Sharon said looking at him like he was crazy for announcing a party at a time like this.
"PARTY!" Nil, Amar, Vicky, and Bharat yelled out.
"Rey ki party." Neha said smiling at Simi and Rini.
"Yes guys party, for all of us. We all have to work together so why not have a party, it can be like an initiation into each other's groups." Rey said smiling at their happy faces.
"That's actually a great idea." Rohan agreed, "We're all friends anyways and we generally do party together, Rey good idea."
"Thanks." Rey said smiling as he met Taani's eyes who seemed to be happy about his decision. "Alright, so my house at 9 don't be late."
Taani was humming to herself as she opened her door. When she got inside she was shocked to see Swayam pacing around their living room floor.
"Bhai?" she questioned grabbing his attention.
"Taani where were you?" Swayam asked abruptly.
"Bhai I was at school." Taani said straight forwardly.
"Oh," Swayam said with a nervous look on his face. "How was school?"
"Bhai what's wrong?" Taani asks. She knows her brother like the back of her hand and she knew what his nervous face looked like.
"Taani, well, your dad called." Swayam spit out nervously waiting for Taani's reaction.
She looked at her brother confused, "Bhai Mamma Papa died a year ago, which is why I'm living with you."
Swayam gave Taani a confused look but then realized what had happened. "Nahin Taani, not your step dad, your real dad." He said earning silence from Taani. He saw Taani's face fall and he knew that look. He once had the same look whenever it came to her dad, but he learned to move along with the facts and give him a second chance, but it wasn't that easy for Taani.
"Bhai he's not my dad, my dad is with my mom in heaven." Taani referred to her step dad, the only father figure in her life.
"Taani please you mom forgave him, infact our entire family had forgiven him, maybe you should try and," Swayam started to say before he was cut off by Taani.
"Maybe what Bhai? He left us 15 years ago and we didn't care then so why try and mend a broken relationship now." Taani said getting worked up.
"Okay, okay Taani please calm down." Swayam said giving Taani a hug. "Don't worry about it you just go get ready for Rey's party."
"Bhai I'm not in the mood to go." Taani gave him a small smile.
"Taani please you need to get out and just enjoy yourself especially after this bombshell I just dropped on you." Swayam smiled at her.
"Bhai," Taani whined but Swayam ignored her.
"Taani, music may be your therapy to get through life but I know what you do to relieve stress. There is only one thing that helps you." Swayam said.
"So now no more talking about this go get ready." Swayam pushed her towards her room, satisfied when he heard her giggles.
As soon as Taani went into the room Swayam's tensed face returned. 'Pata nahi kaise react karegi Taani jab usse pata lagega. I haven't even dropped the real bombshell.' He still hadn't given her the letters that his mom had mailed him that Taani's parents had written for her.
Rey's party was filled with people. All of his friends were there, and it seemed like all of the college was there as well. But the one person he was looking for still hadn't reached.
"Hey Rey chal na yaar!" Vicky yelled over the booming music and Rey shook his head and joined him dancing to the blasting music.
The gang was dancing and enjoying themselves. Suddenly Simi stopped and stared at someone behind them. "Hey Anya come join us!"
"Hey guys!" Anya said dancing along with them, since the past 6 months Anya had became part of their dancing crew. She was talented in both, and was a trained hip hop dancer, so she fit right in.
While everyone was dancing Swayam and Taani finally arrived at the party. Sharon saw Swayam and almost smiled at him. When Swayam came up to her she said, "Itna late?" in her regular attitude.
Swayam just smiled and kissed her check, "I had to look good for you." He responded cutely.
Rey smiled at Taani as she came in, he noticed something was off but didn't put too much thought into it. He was too absorbed with the fact that they were matching, both wearing black. She looked beautiful, and all he wanted to do was dance with her all night long.
The night progressed as everyone laughed and danced and talked and enjoyed themselves. "Taani dances quite well for a girl who isn't part of our dancing group." Rini said to Simi watching Taani and Anya dance.
"Yeah, how did we not know that she's such a good dancer?" Sharon asked Swayam.
"Well obviously she's a good dancer, akhir behen kiski hai." He smirked proudly.
"She's actually really good." Rey said admiring Taani's steps.
"Guys stop being so boring let's go join them." Nil said making his way over to the girls while robot dancing.
Taani started laughing at Nil's entrance into her small group of dancing and started copying his silly robot moves. They laughed and included everyone until Rey's phone started ringing. Rey looked down and his smile wiped off of his face.
"I gotta take this." Rey said to Nil and Sharon who looked at him questioningly and left the room.
Taani watched as Rey left the room and picked up his phone, on his way out it looked like he was arguing with someone. "Where did Rey go?" Taani asked Nil.
"Judging from his face, I'm sure his dad called and afterwards Rey probably won't be in the best mood." Nil said leaving Taani alone with her thoughts. She decided to leave the party and follow Rey.
"Dad I already told you I have a dance off and I am preparing for that. Dancing is not just a hobby, it's a talent and it's my passion." Rey said into his phone wishing he never picked up his phone.
"Reyansh dance is not going to get you far in life. Your mother would have rather wanted you to be a singer." His dad said.
"Like you Dad? You already forced me to have singing lessons when I was younger, now I'm old enough to decide if I want to or not." Rey sarcastically said into the phone.
"Reyansh, I didn't want to become a singer so I didn't follow my passion, but you are dead on about following yours. I'm trying to save you from making a big mistake." He said.
"How about you try believing in me and supporting my decision." Rey said before hanging up.
Rey took a deep breath in and tried to calm down but he knew that even though he hated his dad and he hated singing because of his dad, there was only one thing that truly de-stressed him from his problem. Rey went inside his room and picked up his guitar, the instrument he knew how to play since he was a kid.
Rey took a deep breath in and started strumming. There was only one song that would make anyone feel better about a crappy day and Rey started singing it.
I've been waiting on the sunset
Bills on my mindset
I can't deny they're getting high
Higher then my income
Taani looked around for Rey but could not find him at all. Finally when she was about to give up she heard singing. She heard the strumming of a guitar as well.
"Who could be singing right now?" she wondered as she followed the surprisingly amazing voice.
Fine oh oh you turn out fine.
But you gotta keep your head up, oh
You gotta let your hair down, eh
I know it's hard, know it's hard to remember sometimes
But you gotta keep your head up, oh
You gotta let your hair down
Following the voice to a door Taani stood there shocked at what she saw. She never expected to see Rey, the one person who seems to hate producing music strumming a guitar and singing along. She stood there in awe as Rey kept strumming the guitar.
I've got my hands in my pockets
Kicking these rocks
It's kinda hard to watch this life go by
I'm buying into skeptics,
Skeptics mess with the confidence in my eyes
Rey noticed Taani by the door and stopped strumming. "Tum yahan kya kar rahi hoon." He asked irritated that Taani was watching something personal.
"Rey you sing, and you sing well." Taani said stepping inside his room.
"Yeah well why you don't go run along and tell all your friends that Rey can sing." Rey rolled his eyes and answered rudely.
Taani put her hands up in surrender and said, "Geez, Rey I won't tell anyone though I can't understand why you would want to keep it a secret. And why would you hate on us if you yourself have musical talent."
"Look Taani it's none of your business." Rey said.
Taani bit back her snarky reply. If it was any other day she would have told him off, but Rey looked upset and no matter what she couldn't see him sad.
"Rey aap thik toh hai?" she asked sitting next to him on his bed.
Rey sighed, "Sometimes I just feel like cutting my dad out of my life." Rey said surprising Taani.
"Never mind you won't understand." Rey said getting up to leave.
Taani held Rey's wrist preventing him from leaving. When he turned around she gave him a sweet smile. "Just because I don't understand doesn't mean I can't listen."
For a second Rey got lost in her touch but then he came back and sat down. "You know Swayam told me about your parents, how great your mom and dad are. He told me how your dad taught you to love music." Rey said not knowing about Taani's true past.
Taani knew that she could understand Rey more then he knew it, but she wasn't ready to tell anyone about her biological dad.
"Yeah he did, he was a great person." Taani agreed.
"I wish I could say the same about my dad, he just wants me to follow his passion without caring about mine." Rey said upset. "You know he had a passion for music, but he never had the guts to fulfill it so when I was younger he made me take singing lessons and taught me to play the guitar. As I got older he would only look at me and talk to me if we were talking about music, for him his topics are more important than me. He would only stay around me if it was about music, after my mom died it was like my dad didn't even need to talk to me." Rey said.
Taani looked at Rey with an intense look as Rey continued as he got up and walked towards his window, "You know I made Sharon take singing lessons with me, she loved it and loved singing. Sharon's dad, he's the one who taught us dance and really encouraged us as dancers. Otherwise, my dad was too busy throwing his money around to even be a father." Rey turned around with a small, sad smile.
Taani couldn't take the fact that Rey was so upset so she got up and hugged him. Rey's eyes widened at the gesture as his entire body felt tingles from being so close to Taani. Recovering soon enough Rey tightened his arms around Taani and let himself emerge in her embrace. Once he felt better he let go.
"Feel better?" Taani asked with a smile.
"Yeah." He said with a smile.
"This doesn't change things though." Taani said with her attitude smile.
"Of course, enemies for life." Rey laughed as they walked back to the party together.
precap:
"How could you hide this from me Bhai!" Taani said looking at Swayam accusingly.
"Taani pehle calm down. I know I should have told you earlier but you need to listen to me." Swayam replied knowing that this topic got under his sister's skin. He didn't like the situation either, but they were going to have to deal with it.
"Bhai aap jaante hai na ke unhone kya kiya tha humare saath." Taani said, "Bhai you may forgive him but I will never forgive him, ever. It's because of him I hate dance!" Taani yelled before storming out of the room.
