| Amitabh bachchan and Jaya Believe it or not, when Amitabh Bachchan married Jaya in 1973, there were all of five baraatis in the wedding! After the formal ceremony, the five baraatis had dinner and set off home, leaving just the family members to eat alone later. An excerpt in Harivansh Rai Bachchan's autobiography, In The Afternoon of time, says "Before we left, I embraced the father of my new daughter-in-law and congratulated him on getting a son-in-law like Amit, expecting him to say the same about Jaya. But he said, 'My family is utterly ruined!'" |
| Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi Javed and Shabana first met at her parents Kaifi-Shaukat's house where Shabana lived at the time. He would drop in often to talk to Kaifi after his own father, poet Jaan Nissar Akhtar, passed away in 1976. Shabana liked Javed's wit, humour and his tehzeeb ('He would never put up his feet before elders'). Incidentally, Shabana had just split with Shekhar Kapur after a seven-year long relationship. Also, Javed's divorce with his first wife Honey Irani came much later. |
| Sharmila Tagore and Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi Sharmila Tagore was introduced to Tiger Pataudi in 1965 at a shoot. According to Pataudi, Sharmila 'batted on for four long years' before she finally accepted Pataudi's proposal. Legend has it that Tiger gifted Sharmila a refrigerator (yes, a refrigerator!) to win her heart, but the trick did not work. But four years of sending roses and proposing and Sharmila agreed. Though both their families opposed their marriage, it was hyped by the media as a rare Hindu-Muslim bond. Sharmila is now Ayesha Sultana. |
| Neetu Singh and Rishi Kapoor This is perhaps the most interesting Kapoor wedding to date! It had its own share of well-dressed gatecrashers carrying gift boxes (the security let them in thinking they were guests). Later, Neetu-Rishi found stones in the gift boxes! And if you thought there was tight security at the Abhi-Ash baraat yesterday, For the Neetu-Rishi wedding, the entire area from RK house to the golf course was cordoned off! Finally if you don't know this: Neetu fainted apparently because her lehenga was too heavy, while Rishi fainted just before climbing on to the horse! |

As for the dream girl, Jeetendra and Sanjeev Kumar had proposed marriage to her before Dharmendra did. According to an authorised biography on Hema by film critic Bhawana Somayya, her marriage to Dharmendra was a 'miracle' she thought would never happen. And FYI, the nikahnama of his marriage to Hema Malini says that he is 'Delawar Khan' being united to 'Ayesha'. |
