When you usually get something you have not really worked for, one tends to belittle everything that is of importance around it.
Rashi's obsession to become a mother stemmed from the fact that she was fed up being asked about her pregnancy and then from the fact that she saw what material benefits Gopi was being showered with for being a mother. Her need to match Gopi in every aspect also contributed to this.
Somewhere along the way Rashi was unable to get what she wanted, i.e become pregnant and her mother's idea of adoption took very little time to spread root and grow with Rashi. In this short span of time Rashi has got what she wanted without trying much. That I think has today made her overlook some important things.
Adoption and acceptance:
The first thing that Rashi fails to see is just how much she is isolating Vansh from his new family by being so obsessive and high handed. Yes, Vansh is Rashi's child for now but then he is also part of the Modi's family. This family has been so wonderful and generous about adoption that it makes no sense that Rashi is willing to hurt them.
Hetal and Koki are being true grand mothers. The love they show is the same they showed to Meera. Hetal was like a proud grandmother who wants the best for her grandchild but to their sorrow Rashi has become unreasonable about Vansh. She considers herself the best authority as she is his mother. Good but with authority comes responsibility and they need to weigh options properly.
Overruling the elders is needed at times but that does not mean one throws caution to the wind. What I am afraid of is for the fact that in the name of 'everything being the best and new' for Vansh, Rashi is showing her inexperience being a mother and added to this she is being high handed when the elders try to teach her.
I do not fault the new clothes or the diapers. They are obviously needed but the elders are also not wrong. If for example Rashi had consulted,say a doctor and inquired what is 'do and don't' for the child and used that as the reason I would have been impressed with her but today her refusal to use new clothes were more because of her looking down at old clothes than out of wanting the best for her child. That decision is what scares me. The fact that it is not Vansh but Rashi's show that will always take front seat.
Similarly, Kinjal and Dhawal's excitement to see the baby was the same that they had for Meera. However much we would like to say that blood does not matter, it takes time for any family to adjust to a new baby especially from adoption but the Modis have been fabulous.
Yet.. Rashi so callously hurt them all today. One may argue that she did not know or mean it. But did she not?
I can see how getting Vansh has made Rashi feel. The baby is like a drug to her now. It has taken her to a high where she sees nothing but her own dreams coming true. The power, the money and the respect she wanted, Rashi thinks that being Vansh's mother entitles her to all of that within a day. You can see that in her behavior.
Orders to Meethi to serve only her needs, the fact that she has forgotten that there are others in the family who also are related to Vansh and can enjoy him, the obvious pleasure it gives her to be waited on hand and foot, the need to have everything new for Vansh, the gifts and money she got for becoming a mother.. Rashi has got it all and Vansh is her gateway to all that. This is driving her, taking her up and up from where there is no place she can go but down.
In all this, she is isolating the child from its family. A child that would have been part of a nice family. Rashi gives me a bad feeling with her attitude.
So question is, does this make her worse. No. Rashi is still Rashi. She was a person who could never see another's hurt and was selfish and she is still the same.
What is different today is that this same attitude now affects another innocent life, the life of Vansh who deserves the family's good wishes, not their apprehensions about his adoptive mother. When it is the material things that take precedence over a child itself, it becomes frightening.
Rashi's rejection of the elders goodwill and Kinjal's love is short sighted. But Rashi does not see it that way. She is as always oblivious to her own behavior.
What touched me today was the concern that Hetal showed. It was a confusion mixed with hurt. The hurt was for hurting Kinjal. The confusion was in not understanding and worrying about Rashi's behavior. Koki sees the repercussions and though Baa's statement makes sense, she is wrong about Rashi going back to 'normal' in a few days. What Baa does not realize is the fact that this is 'normal' Rashi. The one she has in mind was the pretend.
This track is interesting for the fact that I want to see if Rashi really loves the child or if it is just a means to an end to her. Her recent actions have been unclear. She so obviously loves being at a place in equal to Gopi. She also has shown that she can obsess over the child as her own. But the actual test comes the real mother come forward or if Rashi gets pregnant. Will this 'love' remain the same? That will be the test. I have a feeling we are going to see Solomon's story repeated in SNS.
Till then I am looking at this track with enthusiasm.. 😊
