Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi was my tit

Be it acting, dance or direction — Sachin Pilgaonkar has scored well in whatever he has done. After winning Nach Baliye last year, Sachin is teaming up with his wife Supriya yet again in Kadvee Khatti Meethi, the next installment of the popular sitcom Tu Tu Main Main. We decided to get up, close and personal with the veteran actor –director and on the new show, on Nach Baliye 2 and his love for comedy.

Q Kadvee Khatti Meethi, the next installment of Tu Tu Main Main is said to be taking a generation leap!
No. It's totally a new concept. It has nothing to do with Tu Tu Main Main. Instead, before starting Tu Tu Main Main I was going to shoot this concept of mine, which was then named Kyun Ki Saans Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi . But Ekta (Kapoor) needed this title very badly. Jeetuji called me up and requested me for it. After giving the title to Balaji, I didn't have any appropriate name for my concept at that moment. So I opted for the name Tu Tu Main Main , which was my second choice.

Q Why is the title so unique?
A: This is a serial for people who like to laugh at themselves. The relationship between the grandmother-in-law, the mother-in-law and the daughter-in-law actually stands for my title Kadvee Khatti Meethi . In different situations, you will see the three bahus changing their flavours to adapt to it.

Q Who's this third bahu?
The main pillar of my family is Rima (Rima Lagoo). The second strongest pillar will be Rukmani (Supriya Pilgaonkar). The newest inclusion to support these two pillars is my new bahu, Madhu (Sucheta Pawashe). There are two more inclusions to my family. The bada pota Karan (Ali Asgar) who plays the husband of Madhu and the chota pota Arjun (Karan's brother) who is always running behind beautiful girls.
Q Are the two husbands going to remain the same?
The rapport with Mahesh (Thakur) and Kuldeep (Pawar) has always been very good. They will definitely be there in the serial. But at the start of the show both wouldn't be present. They will be out of town for their business purposes.

Q Why do you always prefer making comedies?
Since my childhood I've been a humorous person. But I only got emotional roles to play in the movies I acted in. The only movie where I got to play myself was Satte Pe Satta. Then I wanted to do more comedy roles but my image was such that the producers were reluctant as they doubted whether I would suit the role or not. I had decided then that when I direct a film, it would have to be a comedy. By God's grace I did. And then this series happened. Now the tide has turned.

Q So will we never see Sachin making a drama series?
A: Making a comedy is a serious thing in itself. The actors and their timings have to match appropriately to bring out good humour.

Q Who do you think will win Nach Baliye this year?
A: Can't say anything. It's a very tough competition between the contestants.

Q When will Kadvee Khatti Meethi be aired?
A: On October 23 on Star One. I am eagerly awaiting the day!
