Chapter-2
He had just entered into the hall when his eyes met those beautiful hazel ones captivating him. His hands stilled on the buttons of his suit, he was intending to open. He started descending downstairs after few minutes but his eyes still set on her. He saw Mr. & Mrs. Mittal coming next to her and exchanged pleasantries with them.
"She is Khushi, works in our office as I had told your family"
"Beta, meet Mr. Arnav Singh Raizada, I told you about"
Oh this name completely suits him. His name is also damn masculine like him she thought. Wait what are you thinking Khushi? Stop your horses right now.
He extended his hand saying "Hello, Miss'"
"Khushi Kumari Gupta" she completed taking his hand in her tiny hands. "hello"
Mrs. & Mr. Mittal left them alone telling them to talk to each other without any hesitation and interruptions.
"So shall we sit there" Arnav pointed out to a seat.
Khushi could just nod in return completely taken off-guard by his perfect looks and husky voice.
"So you work with Mr. Mittal?"
"Yeah"
"My family told me that you are a designer"
"Yes"
"Are you all right?" He asked looking at her nervous state
"No.. Yess..Yeah, I'm fine, absolutely fine" she answered back stammering revealing her nervousness more.
"It doesn't look so" He shot back
"Look Mr. '.." "Arnav Singh Raizada" he completed for her this time.
"Yeah, Mr. Raizada, I'm fine, it's just that I had no idea about this meeting. If I had been told about all this set-up I won't have been sitting here in this formal wear looking like a complete fool" She said in a single breath.
It took her a second to realize what she had blurted out. She opened her mouth to say something but closed it instantly. She closed her eyes in frustration over what she had just said. Arnav was looking amusingly at her.
"No, I mean I just came unprepared. I know nothing about you. Even I got to know your name only when we were being introduced." She spoke thinking to cover-up her stupidity. "Why do you've to open your big mouth every time Khushi" she thought to herself.
"Well, so now you know my name at least. Rest of the things you can get to know by me here itself" He answered politely. "I wasn't thinking about this. I never thought I'll be talking like this to a girl. From when I started introducing myself to girls?" He thought surprised with his own gentle behavior.
"Mr. Raizada, actually.."
"Arnav, you can call me Arnav" He cut her off. Mr. Raizada seemed so formal to his liking.
"Ji.. Arnavji.. actually I want to tell you one thing" She said with a hesitant smile.
Arnavji sounds so musical in her honey dipped voice, he thought.
"Sure, Khushi"
"Arnavji, I don't want to marry you" She blurted out
"Why?" He shot back immediately without giving a thought. Words were out of his mouth even before he registered. He had planned to tell this girl the same thing from the time his Di had told him to meet her. But now when it was happening without bringing him in to bad light, he was not happy. Wait, was this girl rejecting him in the very first minute? He has dated women before including some top models and here this chit of a girl was telling him that she is not interested in him, him- the most eligible bachelor of town? This was new to him.
She looked at him for a moment. His eyebrows were raised demanding an answer from her. The shock still evident on his face conveyed her that her words may have offended him.
"It's nothing. It's just that I don't want to get married at all. Not now at least" she cleared the air with this.
He let her words sink in. "Even I don't want to get married" He told her reassuringly.
Khushi gave him a dazzling smile of her listening this. "So we both are on the same boat" She added.
"Yeah it looks so" He chuckled "For a moment I thought you rejected me" Surprise quite evident in his tone
"No, you seem nice. But even if I had to get married I won't have married you"
Arnav's eyebrows once again soared high.
"I mean look at the difference between us. I belong to a simple middle class family and you are a part of elite class. We are simply no match." She answered.
"But that hardly matters to my family. Mr. Mittal has told about your family" He retorted back.
"Status doesn't matter in love marriages but in arrange set-up it's always the practicality. Sir doesn't know much about my family anyways to tell you the details."
"What do you mean" He asked quizzically.
"I'm sure he has told you that we're two sisters but what must be unknown to you is that my jiji's marriage was once broken." She looked at him and his face confirmed that she was right. She continued "Sir doesn't know about this. I haven't told about this to anyone here. It has been two years. I joined here a year later after this"
"Hmm.. I understand but this is not a reason to stay unmarried" He told her as if it's not a big deal.
"It matters to the family of the groom. I don't want any complications later. It's a man's world" she told him half-heartedly.
"Who gives shit to someone's personal matter in 21st century?" He furiously retorted back .
"Well, all these things are vital in a society I belong to. Moreover who wants to get tied in this arrange set-up? I have always wished for a love marriage" Khushi told him dreamingly.
Arnav was bewildered at her behavior. One moment this girl was all no nonsense, serious, practical and in the next she is bubbly, chirpy, day dreaming. "Unbelievable" He muttered to himself.
"Enough about me, why don't you want to get married?" She asked curiously.
"I don't believe in marriage" He said in a dead-pan voice.
"You should also go for love marriage." She told him excitingly.
"I don't believe in love either. It's a waste of time, good for movies only" His face still devoid of any emotion.
Khushi kept staring at his face trying to read something but his face was totally masked in indifference. A waiter came to their seat serving drinks breaking her quest.
"Here goes orange juice for you" Arnav said handling her drink.
"What kind of a man doesn't believe in love, I mean LOVE?" Khushi asked raising her hand sin air completely forgetting about her drink.
"I for starters don't believe in love or any damn feelings" he replied coolly.
Khushi just pouted in reply to him.
"But still you should try loving someone for once in your life. It is not that difficult, trust me"
"Are you sure you are a designer and not some Mills & Boons writer" he asked amused at her.
"Romance has nothing to do with someone's profession. And wait, how do you know about Mills & Boons, have you read those?" she asked wiggling her eyebrows.
"What the!! Those stupid romantic stuff is not for me but my Di used to read it and told me once that I should start reading such crappy stuff to believe in love" His face had a Can you believe it look.
"She is right. If you don't like that you can surely watch some romantic movies. Even they will help"
"I don't need any help"
"Has someone ever dumped you?"
"Unbelievable!!"
"I knew this must be the case for you being so against love" she said sympathetically.
Before he could answer her, Sapna reached them.
"Hey Arnav.. If you guys are done talking, please call Anjali. She called me as your phone was switched off.
"Oh yeah. Its battery died down. I'll just call her. Thanks"
Sapna went from there leaving them to themselves.
"So Khushi, I need to go. It was nice meeting you"
"Same here Arnavji. But do give love a try" she said shaking hands with him before she turned and left him.
Arnav watched her as she joined her boss and then in few minutes left the venue.
He remembered her last words to him "But do give love a try" He half smiled remembering that muttering "Crazy girl".
