Satish Kaushik to remake Bengali rib tickler
Bhooter Bhobishyat, a box-office hit, is about spirits in a mansion which is under threat from land sharks. The remake takes off next month
Remakes are the flavour of the season. The latest to jump into the bandwagon is producer Ratan Jain. Early this week, Jain bought the rights of Bengali superhit Bhooter Bhobishyat (future of the past or future of the ghost).
The 2012 rib tickler, directed by Anik Dutta, won many hearts and accolades. The film boasted of a motley cast, a crackling plot and a clever and witty script oozing satire. Made on a budget of Rs 1.5 crore, the film went on to gross Rs 30-crore plus.
It is a story about a haunted house and its quirky inhabitants each coming from a different time zone. The spirits may be divided by thier past, but in the mansion they sing, dance, romance, argue over hilsa and prawns and what not. But when the mansion is on the verge of being gobbled up by land sharks, the spirits unite to hatch a plan and scare off the promoters.
The remake will see Kaushik don the director's hat after five years. A source told us: "Jain was completely bowled over by the movie and the wordplay among the characters had him in splits. Almost immediately he decided to remake the film in Hindi."
Confirming the news, Jain told us: "Yes, we start shooting in 30 days. A couple of days ago, I also zeroed in on a few locales, but the final recce is yet to happen."
Explaining why he chose Kaushik, Jain said: " It is a hilarious film and Satish is the best man for the job." The cast is yet to be finalised.
