I was going to name the wishing tree episode 37 when dupattas fly but changed it as I was writing. Your description of the dupatta falls into a sensuous category, that naughty little scarf! It has been her baby blanket, you know the ones that children hold on to forever as a security cloth. It helps them along the way. For ASR, her dupatta has been a reminder of Kushi, a slap in the face, he can breathe in her scent when it covers his face. love your last paragraph! Beautiful again and still in blissful heaven!

Best parts of this episode were the way they hold each others gaze when they crash into each other!
Like you mentioned Indi, she has been on his mind forever and so when he grasps her hand, he can't let go...is she really there or is it his imagination? It's only when she tries to move it does he realise she's really there...the girl that has consumed his thoughts, kept him awake, the one that he is trying to forget but just cant...and he has to look with his eyes to see that he is still clasping her wrist...his brain finally registers and he lets go! Dil versus dimaag! But he still gazes at her, wants to help her with her eye, he wants to make up for all the hurt hes caused...he is more affected by her than she is at this stage. She is, however not...she doesn't give him a chance, why would she? and rightly walks off!
He follows her, he could have gone to another stall and this shows he is attracted to her...there's still something about her that he wants to be close to her even though he won't admit it, even to himself!
She notices he's next to her and side steps away, just like you would when someone you don't like comes near you. Like you mentioned Cynthia there is such a strong emotion in the air between them, even though there was silence they both felt each other.
Its interesting how he seems to follow her in this episode even though he was always the one putting her down before saying he doesnt want to see her etc. but since the resignation whenever she is walking away and avoiding him, he just can't stand it. Love has made its first mark...hes definitely attracted to her and now he can't help but look at her whenever he can...so much so that he doesn't turn away when she sees him brazenly looking at her...he WANTS her to acknowledge him and deep down he's so entranced by her and her beauty and is only satisfied when she lifts her eyes and gazes at him back clutching her dupatta by her face...
Loved both your posts Indi and Cynthia, 👏brilliant writing, and I agree with you...her dupatta is the most epic prop in the show!
It was torn rudely when it was caught in ASRs car, was bellowing in the wind as he carried her in is arms after the guest house incidence, and many many more scenes to come...the store room, after the party when it got caught on his laptop, Nainital etc. and it is clutched ever so gently but shyly by Khushi when she is aware of him watching her, just like Cynthia mentioned like a security blanket, and also clutched very sensually as though she realises he is looking at her deeply...she almost feels exposed as she touches it by her neck...and yes, the moment he puts her dupatta around her at the cliff edge episode it is as though he really has honoured her, has accepted to be responsible for her...he has always cared for her but this time hes not hiding it from her, i love the way you described this Indi,...he has taken her wholly as his wife, and she has let him fully...

he stood there covered in her colour. it surrounded him as well. the dupatta was pleased. the diaphanous one had been telling the story of these lovers ever since it slipped off her and fell in a heap on that first night they met in sheesh mahal. later at the mazar, it blew out wantonly, caressed his face, her first touch on his skin, as though something in her called out to him, and only he heard. at the guest house, as he called out her by her name of the first time, then lifted her up to take her home, the billowing dupatta trailed behind them picking up every nuance of the night and wrapping it in its folds.

today the dupatta had decided to tell the story its own way, giving the writer a break. direction was being taken care of by gust of wind. together they pored over the situation and decided it was time for magic. let the dialogue writers rest, and "if music be the food of love," let it indeed play on. shakespeare would have been happy today, because not often do lovers' meetings get this kind of drama and emotion built into it, tremulous, murmurous, sensuous, without even a single word being exchanged so much is said, and what's unsaid torments even more.

instinctively his hand had reached out to steady the person who'd collided with him as he made his way to the stall to fill his sisters offerings platter with the requisite things. vermillion, flowers, and the all important string. and now this, his dapper attire smeared with vermillion, red everywhere, on his face, hands, on her. as she came up ready to yell at the person for being so careless. she saw him, and went still with shock and surprise. he was oddly struck. for when his suv pulled up at bersarai, the place of the sacred tree where wishes are fulfilled when you pray and tie your string around it, he peered out of the window and i had a distinct impression he had a feeling he might see someone there.

of course, his eyes were behind shades and i couldn't be sure, but why did he scan the place otherwise? and why did that tender music float up, air a little pensive? and oh she was there. the dupatta had set up everything perfectly. the elder sisters would be used shamelessly to bring the twotogether, using that most symbolic of things, dhaga, string. all about ties after all our story.

so while she waited at the stall for the man to come back with dhaga payal had asked for for her platter, payal went to pay respects to the tree. on the other side, when di said she'd go fetch the things for her platter, he said, no, you go to the tree with akash, i'll get the stuff.she said, do get the dhaga also. dupattas flew everywhere, and as he stood in the distance, her pink lehariya flew up playfully. hey mister, i'm here.

however, asr was not known to catch signals from dupattas, used as he was to mini skirts and short dresses.
he strode purposefully in her direction to go to the same shop as her since that's where it all seemed to be at. she counted the items on her platter happily and turned to walk to the tree. instead they walked into each other.

she went right round in a circle, scattering vermillion and flowers from her platter everywhere. colour, rich vibrant colour. her colour. now on him.

in many ways, this episode had echoes of the mazar. a powerful place of worship and wish making, here with a string, there a lock and key. a surge of people, joy in the air, many little activities, much colour and crowd. tantalising catch me if you can moments, will he see her? will she spot him? they miss each other, only to meet unexpectedly. a hush in the air.

(sound of crashing waves on shore in my head. arnav the see has dashed against land, and look, it is his happiness.)

as he stands there holding her arm, rabba vey floats in. an exquisite sequence of two people unimaginably stirred by each other. exchanging glances, wondering, feeling all sorts of things without knowing what or why.

she reached to rub her eye, but her hand was held tight by him. he realised, and let go. she took a couple of steps backward. they would have turned away and broken the connection, but again the leheriya took charge. it swooshed up and started to vie aggressively for his attention. down, dupatta. he tugged it away and saw her with her fingers near her eye trying to rub away some irritating vermillion. involuntarily he reached out to help, she spurned him. perhaps to scared. an awkward moment, her hand went to her neck, she adjusted her odhni. this little tic of nervousness added enchantment to the episode in a few places. the poor girl was hungry. not even one jalebi jiji had allowed. she had been dreaming of her rakshas. and now this.

just before coming here, he'd had an overwhelming experience with the calendar. she was in him, difficult to switch off. and now here. since the day she'd slapped her resignation on his palm, in fact, since the night of the guest house, he hadn't been able to say a word to her. he tried to bring it up, even as she stole a glance at him at the stall. but the moment he said: what you said... she turned and hurried away. she was in no state to speak with him. he was furious, no one turned their back on arnav singh raizada and stalked off while he was talking. we know how much asr hates this. khushi had to do it, of course.

at the tree, she went on to tie her string; fully engaged, happy, looking delightfully innocent doing the rituals. he stood away from it all. and struggled for composure, hiding behind a wooden mask like face, a nonchalant air. but that was not to be.

one of the most lovely songs i've heard in a serial, or anywhere, tuhi bata mere maula faded in. at the mazar too it had played. and now here. a spiritual place seemed to be the natural home of a song that seeks the ultimate uplift of the spirit... its immersion in love.

tu hi bata mere maula...
tu hi bata mere rabba...
naa paas aa sake na door ja sake...

agar pyaar inko kheeche, takraar inko roke...
(the last line petty much the theme of the episode)

and his eyes fell on her. mesmerised again. she looked up, saw him, eyes widened. later, she hid behind her lovely pink dupatta and looked at him, chori chori. oh iss pyaar ko kya naam doon?

rabbaa...

a wily dupatta blew up to give akash a hint. and then everyone met everyone. khushi was awkward, then tried to realx. di forgave payal her rudeness the other day, repeating elder sisters are meant to be like that about their younger siblings (funnily both of them have younger siblings who not only take careof them but will do much much more for them). she also said, no need to worry for khushi, she has a lot of himmat. this got to the man. akash was bemused having found his dupattewali. mamiji was displeased with this return of phatti sari and flaunted her one and only son. it was fixed that all the fasting women praying for a good husband and their husband's well being would meet at the same chandni chowk mandir. the last few minutes were dense with talk, the dialogue guys were back. we were being now guided toward the next meeting at the temple.

under all the pleasantries a certain tension grew.our man was angry at di's noticing both had color on them and then her:

"kahin aap wapas dono ne jhagda toh nahin kiya na?"
he brusquely announced it was time to leave. yet before leaving, another long look at khuahi. while she fidgeted with her dupatta.

back at home, her colour still on him. wiping with tissue fails, he chucks it frustration. standing by the place where he goes to find calm, his little pool by the room, he clenches his fist and grinds out:

"aj tak kissine mujhse aisi badtameezi karne ki jurrat nahin ki. tumhari itni himmat kaise hui, khushi kumari gupta."

a beautiful episode. romantic, smooth, elegant, utterly absorbing. resplendent in colours and rich in symbols: red, vermillion, strings, a tree with all the positive life and fertility connotations of a tree, a place of wishes and prayers, reflections on glass, and more. what can you say without saying a single word? ask a dupatta. it will likely say,"everything important."

hawa mein udta jaye
an aside on a dupatta. this beautiful about 2 to 2 and a half metre piece of cloth is associated with a woman's "laaj" her honour and self respect. while often very pretty, it covers her and keeps her safe from lustful gaze. for khushi, her dupatta was always a very important part of attire, essential for her sense of respect. another side of this lovely garment, its charming naughtiness, its eloquence as it sways and falls and billows and floats. in iss pyaar ko the dupatta has an important place. it is not only a symbol of khushi's respect/honour, it is narrator, or so i've often felt. and around it some of the most fascinating sequences have been built. 3rd july 2012, on the cliff's edge when he placed her dupatta across her shoulders, it was as though he took her honour as his responsibility, an elemental instinct of a man vis a vis his woman, to me this was their true marriage [and i've always considered there temple wedding valid]. her breath returned when her fingers felt his heartbeat. he adored her, then put her dupatta where it belonged with care and feeling, he picked her up and walked ahead, temple behind, dupatta picking up all the nuances of the day, wrapping them all in its folds.)

Hi Indi! Wow, I'm completely blown away by your brilliantly written analysis! 👏 Such a pleasure to read! I've always thought that the dupatta is not only Khushi's safety blanket but also an extension of herself! I also feel that the dupatta is a secret cupid as well! If you recall, Khushi fell from the runway because she slipped over her sly duppata! 😆 Somehow, her dupatta is always drawn and reach out to Arnav one way or another, whether to caressing his beautiful face or get stuck to his things (his shirts, plants, SUV).
Her dupatta have played a vital role since the beginning until the end of the serial! The CVs did a beautiful job using the dupatta to tantalize the character's senses as well as ours!
Love everything in purple and funny part bolded! Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I'm on cloud 9 filled with these beautiful imagery that you've created! This is such an amazing episode!

Hey Indi

Love your Dupatta take as all of us talking about it since yesterday so not adding much.

I highlighted Black this time because of different colors were added by all these ladies so change the whole in Purple and choose Black.Yes Since Sheesh Mahal-- Mazar---Guest house --many many places this Dupatta is going to be in the AIR until he is going to wrap it around her neck with realization and acceptance of her Fully heartedly .He will understand the real meaning of this and HE does show that in their Suhag Raat when he deliberately keeps it away from her as he wants her to know he is his Dupatta from now on...Simply one piece of cloth holds such power in our culture and it is diminishing with time though .Anyway I do like certain things in certain ways. Not conservative but certain things do hold certain place in my heart.❤️

Episode 38!!! it will be kind of short...i am super busy (stupid university had to start)

Arnav was in front of the mirror staring at his hand, where the sindoor was and looks at it like it were khushi herself. He gets lost thinking about the day and wondered why khushi's talkative self bothers him but her silence is more bothersome...he does not understand why...all i can say arnav is totally heads over heels fida over khushi...i would not call it love as of now, he is just infatuated by her because he is different and actually stands up to him which is not done by anyone

during the same time arnav was staring at his hand, khushi was trying to get rid of the sindoor on her cheek. She keeps moving her hand in a circular motion on one cheek, thinking of her interaction with arnav. she is so engrossed in her thoughts she had not clue that he sindoor cames off her cheeks. Her daydream was broken by payal...she then tells payal that she did not even talk to the rakshaas but she has no clue why he is always on her mind. Like arnav, khushi is totally attracted and infatuated by arnav...because to her he is a mystery...mean one second and nice the next

as for the nani, mami, and anjali scene. they were all preparing for teej. Mami cheated on her fast by drinking sharbart (no clue how to spell that word) and nani is like lavanya must have fasted like her. Anjali immediately jumped to defend lavanya and said that she did not even drink water. One thing that i like about anjali is that she only see the good in a person but at the same time that is her down fall. Mami ji, right after anjali, said that lavanya is doing this just to impress nani ji. Nani ji immediately said that fasting will not make your heart clean, she has different thoughts and so her fasting will not make a difference to me. After a while, mami ji asked anjali asked if her gift from her in laws came...anjali immediately said that it should be on its way and there is a lot of traffic...she has so much faith in her husband and he will never let her down

Mami ji go her stuff from nani ji...and was immediately happy...seeing her happiness you can see that nani ji was smiling. Nani ji really cares for mami ji it is just her habits that annoys nani the most

As for shyam...he found out from khushi that they are going to the same mandir as anjali and shyam immediately came up with some excuse convincing them to go to a mandir farther away. Buaji liked his explaination and tells the girls they should go there...The girls get ready for teej...they look really pretty...shyam saw khushi and stopped his train of thought and even dropped his gift. After awhile after he was aware of his surroundings he told bua ji that he cannot take the girls because he has some work...khushi convinced bua ji to let him go and bua ji told him to hurry back...Shyam is not wondering how he will make rani sahiba happy and go to back to khushi on time (how disgusting)

The scene shifts to the RM...Anjali's gift has arrived and she is very happy and said i knew he would not forget this day to mami ji...her diya (forgot where it was shown) was shining as bright as ever...showing that her wish of her husband coming will come true. Anjali was getting ready and she was looking bootiful just like a newly wed bride...she is so excited to see her husband after so long ( i am kind of curious to know how long...i am thinking like a few weeks but drama time confuses me)

nevermind, this post ended up being longer than i thought...this show makes me write so much...i wish i could do this for my studies

already posted on thread 2 before i realized there was a thread 3!!!!!!!!!!!

Would love to Indi! Just pick a day! Loved your take! I love all the dupatta scenes but when Arnav recerently placed the dupatta on her the night of Suaggrat(spelling?) that did me in!
