NOTE: This is not a personal agenda against any character. It is my personal opinion of what I had seen this past week. In short, I believe the actress needs to improve in certain areas to portray a character as strong as Sharon. Also, out of all the people it is us, TaRey fans, who know the importance of adapting to changes and the need for a change. So, it is not a hate post, but a critical review which needed to be said to reveal how certain people feel regarding the changes in the show which was expected.
It has been a week since D3 had taken a turn for whether good or bad, only time will tell. Many new plots are unveiled and the characters of the show face many highs and lows. The show divulges the member of the D3 cast, Vrushika in the role of Sharon. It is make known that Sharon suffers from asthma, which builds a great track for the characters of Swayam and Sharon to embark upon. Due, to her condition, Sharon has put off dancing and the character is seen battling her emotions; passion, friendship and love. Also, a major turnabout in the character's personality is observed. Now, that Sharon is unable to dance, she believes that the common ground between her and Swayam no longer exists and thus, she tells Swayam that they will not be together. Swayam, on the other hand, is revealed to be perplexed over Sharon's change of tune. His character is strengthened when he holds his ground to Sharon's abuse and reveals his love for her and his faith in them as a couple. Another twist in the story line is publicized when after, the victorious basketball match Rey and Taani are revealed confessing their love but decide to keep silent about their relationship due to Swayam's preoccupancy over Sharon's behavior.
The show's new find, the pretty 19 year 'old, Vrushika Mehta is casted in the role of the school's diva, Sharon Rai Prakash. This is Vrushika's debut; she is a complete fresher in the industry and does not have any experience in acting. She got picked for the project for her dancing skills, which anyone who had seen her perform in the India Dance Fest, would realize that she is an amazing dancer. Also, her contemporary dance in the show with Swayam when, she experiences flashback of their time together is pulled off amazingly. Her dancing skills portray her as a strong and confident personality and her expressions are spot on. Off screen, Vrushika has brought a new vibe to the show; her young, vibrant and charismatic personality is just what the cast and crew of D3 needed to liven things up around the set.
However, I personally feel disconnected from the character of the new Sharon. Vrushika as Sharon is believable but she does not quite seem to strike an uncritical chord. It is difficult to pinpoint the reason for this but could possibly be because this is her first experience in acting. Personally, I believe that Vrushika is merely passable and lacks the range to handle a character which demands diverse emotions; when it comes to handling the intense emotional scenes Vrushika comes as beautiful but plastic in her character. Sharon is shown to be reverting to her old reserved and indifferent self. But the actress has gone overboard doing that. Where the character calls to be indifferent and be a diva, Vrushika seems to overpower the character's personality that makes Sharon come across as a shy, sweet and innocent girl playing at being mean and haughty. Also, her dialogue delivery needs improving which looks as if they are read straight off the paper. This in addition has also affected the rest of the characters in the show. The creators of the show have overshadowed Taani and Rey's storyline in order to develop Sharon's character. Another fault in the creators' set up of the new storyline is that out of all the people Sharon, should have understood the privacy required by Taani and Rey considering long ago she, herself was in the same position and thus, should have respected their privacy and not blurted their affairs in front of the entire group, even if she did it unintentionally.
