Ah, Kirthi! You spoke my mind exactly. I was about to say that while reading aimf's post, I got lost sometimes, wondering whether it was about Aarti or SP! And to think I never would have noticed this similarity had it not been for her post! 👏

From the need for approval to the need to control everything without help from anyone, the similarities are plain uncanny! Aarti too thought she had Yash's best interests at heart when she hid the truth from him all those times in the past. In reality, it only hurt him to find out of her deception. I wonder if a similar process will happen with SP and Yash now... WOW.

Loved reading everyone's takes! Alas, I have class straight till evening today so I won't be able to join discussions until then but I am very excited to see how this pans out!

Thank you for your feedback, and for liking the post. Yes, everyone seeks approval, but we are talking of what happens when this need takes pathological proportions. Yes, there is a great similarity in this regard between SP and Arati, but with a big difference. The same need for approval is externalized in SP. His insecurities are turned outward, channeled through his obsessive need for controlling his environment and people around him; whereas, in Arati, the need for approval is internalized in the form of guilt and fear. Arati's personality to gain approval is that of a people pleaser, while SP is a people-manipulator and controller. It is basically the same need for approval with different defense mechanisms born of varying psychological and gender profiles.
