Item numbers have women willingly singing and dancing. Rape, however, is non-consensual. It's sexual assault. Item numbers don't cause rape. Rapists and their disgusting, narrow-minded, cheap thinking cause rape. The blame shouldn't be pinned on Bollywood. The government needs to do something to change the thinking of society and men who think they have the right to do whatever they want with women.

I am Indian but living in Canada. I have lived in Canada for most of my life. In our movies they so sexual woman but not the extent that Bollywood films do. Bollywwod films where at one point showing innocent love. instead of racy sex scenes like in Hollywood movies they would use sweet touches and song and dance to show hwo they feel. The times have clearly changed and Bollywood films are also getting more racy with love scenes and half naked woman dancing around...thos they have changed their movie making style by sexing the actress up more and more, I DO NOT think that is an invitation for rape and sexual assault. A woman shoudl be able to wear whatever she wants. Especially when India is making such a bold statement by using their actresses in their movies. They are indirectly using Bollywood filsm to show the world that they too can sext up their women by wearing provocative clothes. in doing this, it's not wrong...i guess it's the culture now. but with that said, people if India should understand that even tho tho woman may be itemized by their films, that rape and sexual assault is wrong.
They should know that touching a woman without her consent is not right and not tolerated.
I think that India is just using Bollywood "item" songs as their way out. With all the corruption going on they don't want to change the way of their thinking...they don't want to teach the men of that country that Woman are not a peice of garbage that thy can use and then throw away...that they should be respected like everyone else...I'm actually more disgusted by India for hding behind Bollywood "item songs" instead of changing thier ways...India this is unacceptable!

the problem with item numbers is that they propagate the theme that women like being treated 'rough' and are looking for more of it...as they do vulgar dance moves with a bunch of 'rustic-looking' men going gaga all over them.

When played over and over again, it doesn't take long for the mindset to sink in that women are only made for pleasuring men any time and every time. the one who rape dont consider that they are doing a non-consensual act...for them it's just a matter of time before a woman will willingly consent. or so they think.

While I agree that the blame shouldnt been pinned on bollywood/items songs alone, the fact that the progressively deteriorating item songs in bollywood movies capitalize on these very 'masses' cannot be ignored.

Blame the mentality of such people

not the item numbers or the actress wearing revealing clothes

And yes women in other countries do wear revealing clothes so do the movie stars but in no way did i see women getting raped just because they are influenced by such movies or seeing women wearing revealing clothes

Thats an pathetic excuse...change the mentality of such people and their sons and daughters.
