The Misunderstanding - A SS

Part Three

There was a knock at the door. Madhu instantly looked up and towards the door. She sat on the bed calmly. She had composed herself in front of her mother.

She felt as though she knew who it was at the door.

Padmini walked over to open it.

"I wonder who it could be so late at night?"

Madhu didn't answer; she stayed on the bed but leaned in the door's direction to hear the conversation.

"Oh hi! Come in!"

Madhu wondered who it was, and then she heard his voice answer her mother's.

"Is something wrong? You're here so late?"

"Is Madhu here?"

"Y..."

"No!" Madhu interrupted her mother.

Padmini turned her head in the direction of her bed and then back towards RK with a confused expression.

"RK...did something happen?"

"Can I talk to Madhu for a minute?"

"I don't want to talk to anyone ma!" Madhu screamed from her bed.

"Not even me?" Radha spoke.

Madhu's eyes widened at the sound of Radha's voice.

RK came with ma? Madhu thought to herself.

She got off the bed and walked towards the door.

RK stared at her; a regretful and sorry expression was displayed on his face. She stared back at him for a minute and then turned her head in Radha's direction.

Radha smiled, she seemed happier than usual to Madhu.

Madhu shot glances between the two of them and then finally stopped her eyes on Radha.

Radha nodded her head up and down, indirectly telling Madhu that what she's thinking is true. RK had forgiven Radha.

After seeing the nod of her mother-in-law, Madhu's eyes watered up as she looked back at RK.

Padmini walked towards Madhu and looked at her as Madhu kept her tear-filled eyes on RK.

"Madhu...?"

"Huh..." Madhu broke out of her trance and looked at her mother in front of her.

"They came to talk to you, you should talk to them."

"Yes ma..."

Madhu looked back towards them. RK gestured for them to go outside.

Madhu was just about to walk past RK and out the doors, when suddenly she head Radha speak.

"Wait."

Madhu turned to look at Radha, as did RK and Padmini.

"Rishu beta, can I just speak to her for a minute?"

RK looked at Madhu and then Radha. He nodded his head yes and took a seat on the nearest couch as Radha and Madhu walked outside to talk.

"Madhu beta..."

"Yes ma?"

"I wanted to thank you..."

"N..."

"Chup, let me speak. Today after 15 years, I've finally received all the happiness in the world, I received what I was longing for...I got back my son, my Rishu, all because of you Madhu..."

Radha hugged Madhu. Madhu closed her eyes and hugged her back. They pulled away after a moment.

"He even called me ma..."

"Really ma?"

"Yes Madhu!"

Madhu smiled and wiped away the tears from Radha's eyes. Radha wiped Madhu's tears.

"I don't know what happened between you two..."

Madhu looked to the ground with an upset expression as Radha continued.

"But I just wanted to say...Rishu has a big heart. He would never intentionally hurt someone...especially not you. He really loves you Madhu."

Madhu looked up at Radha.

"You can see it in his eyes...I've never seen so much love in his eyes before...not even for his papa...not even for me. You're really something special Madhu...really special. Rishu is hurting right now...I don't know what he did, but please, if you can, forgive him. He just needs to be loved and then everything is okay."

"Ma...don't worry. I'll talk to him."

"Talk to him right now! I'm not leaving this chawl without you!"

"But ma..."

"Nope, no buts!"

Madhu looked at Radha as Radha let a smile cross her face. Madhu smiled back and giggled slightly as they embraced again.

Madhu and RK stood alone outside on the terrace of Padmini's place.

They stared deeply into each other's eyes and then RK spoke.

"Madhu..." he took a hold of her hands in his gently.

Madhu didn't back away as she let him continue.

"I'm sorry..."

Madhu continued to stare at him without responding. No smile, no frown, no nothing; a straight face which RK was having trouble reading.

"Say something Madhu..."

"What do I say RK?"

"Anything..."

"I have nothing to say..."

Madhu released her hands from his and went to walk past him when suddenly she felt a grip on her hand.

She turned her head over her shoulder and saw RK holding her hand, not letting her leave.

He slowly and gently pulled her close in front of him. He placed his hand on the side of her face and spoke softly.

"Listen to me Madhu..."

"Why?"

They locked eyes for a moment and then RK broke the silence.

"Because I love you Madhu...I really do. You're my life. I can't live without you. Living without you is not living at all. Please forgive me. I need you and your love Madhu..."

Madhu stared at him for a second; tears began to build up within her eyes. Then slowly let a slight smile cross her face as she saw the love in his eyes.

"You know...if I had to choose between breathing and loving you...I would use my last breath to say I love you," he continued.

Madhu raised an eyebrow and looked at him.

"Is Mr. Kundra trying to woo his own wife?"

"Is it working?" RK smirked.

"Hmm..."

"How about this one, you're so beautiful you made me forget my pick up line?"

Madhu stared at him for a second and then burst into laughter.

"You suck at flirting RK," Madhu spoke between her laughter.

RK admired her and then gently caressed the side of her face. She looked up at him and smiled.

"I love you so much Madhu."

"I know...but I love you more," she smirked.

"What? N..."

"At least let me win today RK."

"You won last time!"

"Oh, so you admit it?" Madhu smiled and giggled.

RK admired his wife again and her smile and then pulled her in for a hug.

"I'm sorry I ever doubted you Madhu," he spoke as he hugged her tightly, as if he were never going to let her go.

"It's okay...just don't let it happen again."

"I love you Madhu."

"I love you too."

RK sighed in relief and closed his eyes as he kissed Madhu's head. He held her tightly in their embrace as Madhu closed her eyes and took in the comfort of being in his arms.
