It takes place in calcutta. Basically there are two friends alok, a bengali and mahen kapoor, a punjabi. Over time mahen kapoor has become rich and alok is still poor but there is no diff in their friendship. Alok has two faithful and duitful daughters gauri and kaya and one selfish son who is married and listens to the wife. Alok wife is no more and they have a masima who lives wiht them

Mahen kapoor has two sons rudra and shiv and one daughter palak.His wife is nikhila. His brother and sister with their better half and kids life with them and also his parents.

Alok decides to get gauri married and arrange a match between shashank who works for mahen kapoor and her.

After some time, they agree to marry and mahen kapoor decides to hold the engagement and marriage in mumbai.

Now in mumbai, Shiv is introduced and seems he doesnt get along with father well. The engagemant takes place. Shiv and gauri have misunderstandings between them which later leads to shiv wanting to take revenge from her.

Shiv's friend traps gauri in a false prostitution case which leads to shashank abandoning her in the wedding altar and shiv ends up marying gauri as mahen kapoor threatens to disown him and his sis if he doesnt marry gauri as the false case led to shashank not marrying gauri.

Now shiv hates gauri and wants to take revenge from her.
