Bollywood going vroom..vroom..vroooomm

A Bollywood veteran has brought back the biking culture on the Indian screen. Puzzled? Well, we are talking about filmmaker Yash Chopra. Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham and Uday Chopra will hit the road in the first full-blown biker film 'Dhoom'.
The last time, the muscled mean machines were seen on screen was in Janasheen. Feroz Khan promised media and junta that the super bike championship in the film was going to be the highlight. But sorry Mr.Khan, the audiences weren't too impressed. Must admit though, your suave son made up for most of the adrenaline rush…
Saathiya star Vivek Oberoi on a smart bike kept humming Humdum suniyo re…to ladylove Suhani [Rani]. In Ghulam, director Vikram Bhatt put Aamir and Rani on a bike and sped away to a huge hit. The song 'Jaadoo hain, tera hi jaadoo…' was picturised on Aamir and Rani racing down the Mumbai streets on a bustling bike. Chi Chi in Albela played tourist guide to Aishwarya, as they romanced Goa on a sleek machine.
Sanju baba had oomph goddess Urmila Matondkar burning the hot seat while they zipped around on their Harley in Daud. Ajay Devgan did many a daring stunts on bikes during his Phool Aur Kante and Vijaypath days. Co-incidentally, Devgan's latest release Yuva too had him dropping girlfriend Esha to her French classes on a two-wheeler. Our stammer star, Shah Rukh chased Aana on a meek mobike in Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. And more recently in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, the Eagle gang in leather jackets and cool glares bullied half of Goa on their stylish bikes!
But the earliest memories of the two-wheeler has to be Rajesh Khanna zipping a gorgeous Hema around the city as he croons 'Zindagi ek safar hai suhana…' in his trademark kaka style. Jai and Veeru didn't do too bad either as they exchanged friendship vows singing 'Yeh dosti hum nahi todenge…'on their phatphati.
Among the moviemakers, masala pasha Raj Kanwar has been quite generous with machines in his movie. King Khan debuted on a bike in Deewana. Salman sported a mobike in Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega, Bobby drops his kid sister to college on the two-wheeler in Badal while Akki in Andaaz is shown riding the bike in a fleeting shot. Haasil director Tigmanshu Dhulia has Uday Chopra and Jimmy Shergill bike their way through in a song.
But somehow, neither have our filmmakers been too excited about the two-wheeler, nor did it catch the fancy of the moviegoers. Perhaps, it has something to do with the Indian mindset that has always been partial to four-wheelers and not seen bikes as luxury. So, there isn't enough glamour attached to a bike, as it is with a swanky car. "We are a car-crazy country. Not so much with bikes though." says automobile genius, DC [Dilip Chabria]
But there has been a positive air about the speed-spears. So, you have a Bajaj Pulsar saying, its definitely male, Bajaj wind biking. Not to forget, the hugely popular MTV Roadies. So, biking is slowly revving to be cool.
The biker club in Bollywood is very strong too. John Abraham, a self- confessed bike buff rides a 1300 cc Suzuki Hayabasu in Dhoom, which zooms from 0km-100km in 2.8 secs flat! Talk about wind biking. Fardeen is the proud owner of a Harley. Salman, Sanjay all love their speed devils to death!
