Hi Everyone,

Thank you for your comments.

Here is the next update. The mystery of who caught Anandi will be solved today šŸ˜† . I tried to update 2 days ago but got a delayed. Hope you all like the part. Pls, Ignore typos.šŸ˜‰

Part - 19
-----------

He entered the school trying to clear his mind of all worries and tensions. He needs to be calm when speaking to Anandi, to make sure she understands him right and for everything to work out well. He was deeply buried in his concerns when, a loud cry broke his chain of thoughts. He recognised the voice instantly and his body raced automatically in the direction of the sound. As he saw her falling, he stretched his arms as long as possible, praying they reach her on time. Once he caught hold of her mid air, he wrapped his hand as hard as possible around her, making his grip on her body strong, almost crushing her body against his chest, as if to never let her go. His heart was beating so fast like it will fall out any second. Was it because of all the adrenaline rush? or Was it because she was this close to him? Its not like he never touched her, held her but something made him feel so different about their proximity, today. He stood there, holding her in his hands, her body elevated in the air, closely tucked into his chest above the ground, forgetting to blink as he looked at her. She was still in panic, her body stiff, eyes tightly shut, lips folded into a thin line, a frown on her forehead. Everything felt so right at the moment, so perfect, as if it was meant to be, like this is where she belonged, close to his heart with him. He wondered, "why am I feeling so overwhelmed today at our proximity? Is it because I am scared of the consequences that might follow after talking to her? Of her misunderstanding me? or Is it the fear of losing her entirely? or Is it because her decision will change my life forever or Was it simply because I love her so much and being with her is a glee".

Anandi was shocked to see who was holding her above the ground. She felt awkward as she realized the position she was in with him. His one hand was supporting her back, right below her neck. The other hand under her knees, her body folded and held close to his torso, her head resting right above his heart and her one hand clutching his shirt while the other spun around his neck, supporting herself. She saw him staring at her, his hands tightly wrapped around her, as if he was scared to let go of her. His gaze made her feel more uncomfortable and embarrassed. She took her hands away from him, cleared her throat trying to get back the voice which seemed to have been lost, to say something, to escape from this situation as early as possible but in vain.

His contemplation was broken when he sensed her remove her hands and heard her clear her throat. As their eyes met, he realized he was staring at her and still holding her. He immediately composed himself, loosened his grip on her body and spoke still holding her where she was "Aap theek hai?" Anandi looked at him, embrasement clearly visible on her face, wondering why he was still holding her, she nodded her head and whispered "Ji". He asked her very softly with clear concern in his voice "Shall I put you down? Can you stand?" She then understood why he was still holding her. She replied regaining her lost voice "Main theek hoon collector sab". He unwillingly and as slowly as possible put her down. He had to let her go, she is not his Anandi. Yet. There was awkwardness for few seconds as neither of them spoke. He looked at her slowly, trying to understand her thoughts from her expressions. She was fidgeting her fingers, eyes towards the far end of the room, embarrassment all over her face.

He looked at the stool and the poster hanging down, only half pasted to the wall. He said small smile spreading on his lips "Aap akele sab kaam nahi kar sakti Anandiji. Haan, mujhe pata hai ki aapko lagta hai ki aap superwomen hai, aur shayad aap hai bhi, lekin superwomen ko bhi kabhi kabhi dusro ki madhat leni chahiye". Stunned his statement, she looked at him and saw him smiling. She let out a small smile and said "Aisa koi baat nahi. Woh poster ek hafte se pada tha, school ka samay nahi hua, toh mein ne socha ..." . Shiv cut her off saying "Aap ne socha aap poster lagadengi. Right. Lekin kuch kaam dusro se mil kar karne se, ya madad lene sae jaldi hota hai aur bilkul theek bhi. Aap sab kaam akele nahi kar sakti". Anandi retorted saying "Jab mujhe madad ki zaroorat hai toh main zaroor mangte hue. Mai poster lagane ke liye akele kafi thi, woh poster bahut bada tha, aur mera pair ka dard.. "she stopped realizing what she was about to say. He suddenly remembered events from the previous day, panic hit him and he asked "Aap ka pair? Ab kaisa hai? Dard ho raha hai? Aap iss haal mein yeh kaam kyun kar rahi thi? Agar mein time par nahi aaya tho? Aap ko aap ka bilkul parwah nahi hai." He said it all in one go. As he spoke, he simultaneously held Anandi's hand, walked her to the chair and made her sit.

Anandi was surprised as she listened to all his questions. She opened her mouth to shoot back with a counter but before she could say anything shiv said "Now leave it. I don't want you to argue now. Is it paining? Can I help in any way?" Anandi replied "I am fine collector saab. The fall shook me a bit and the foot ached a little with all the sudden movements. I am really fine now. Sorry for the trouble. If something had happened, everyone at home would have been very upset because of me. As is, Dadisa was worried regarding my foot injury from yesterday and with today's fall, she would have scolded me. Thank you for saving me". "You need not thank me Anandiji. I would never let you fall or get hurt. I will always be there when you need me. You can count on me" said Shiv. As soon as he completed his sentence, Shiv realized what he said and tried for ways to deviate Anandi's attention. He moved near the fallen stool, lifted it, placing it in correct position and started climbing it. His actions surely made Anandi snap out of what Shiv just said and ask "What are you doing, collector saab?"

Shiv stayed silent. Once he climbed the stool, he reached for the poster, held it in place and searched his pocket for tape. He then turned around, looking everywhere as he realized he forgot to pick up the 'tape'. Anandi who was watching him, silently picked up the tape, walked to him and extended it to him. Shiv was about to take it from her hand when she said "Aap akele sab kaam nahi kar sakte, collector saab. Haan, mujhe pata hai ki aapko lagta hai ki aap superman hai, aur shayad aap hai bhi, lekin superman ko bhi kabhi kabhi dusro ki madhat leni chahiye" and started laughing loudly. Shiv looked at her for few seconds stupefied. He then let out a laugh, joining her. He was happy that the awkwardness, embarrassment, tension that was there few minutes ago was now gone. She was back to her normal self. He was glad he forgot the tape. He wished for her smile to stay intact always. What will he do if she chooses to go back to Jagya? He didn't know the answer. He decided it is better not think about it now as it will only make speaking to her all more tough for him.

A Pair of glowing bright red eyes were watching the whole scene from the window of the school. Jagya was just a couple of steps away from school entrance when he saw a jeep pullover. As he halted to see who it was, he saw Shiv getting out of the jeep and entering the school. Jagya stopped to think if its right to go and talk to Anandi now, with Shiv around. "No, I have to talk to her alone, make her understand my point. She is my only way to my family, I can't and won't accept her rejection. I have to get the timing and everything right. She has to forgive me" he said to himself. He was angry at Shiv for spoiling his plan. Dejected, he turned around to leave when suddenly a question popped in his mind, "What was Shiv doing here, this early ? What does he want from Anandi ?" Curiosity took over his sanity and he moved slowly towards the window facing the road. As he peeped through window looking around to find them, he froze at the sight in front of him.

In the room next to the one he was peeping through, was Anandi held close to Shiv above ground, his hands closed around her in an embrace as she stayed still in his arms, her hand around his neck. Jagya was not able to see Anandi's face but Shiv's face was very visible. His blood boiled as he saw Shiv staring at Anandi's face. "What was Shiv doing? Why was Anandi not pushing him away? How can she allow him to hold her?" as many such questions raced through his mind Jagya stood rooted observing. Then Jagya saw Shiv's lips move. Jagya almost crushed his body against the window trying to listen to what Shiv was saying but to his disappointment, no luck.

As he continued glaring at them, he saw Shiv placing Anandi down on ground, her smile at him as he said something, him getting on the stool trying to fix poster. Then Jagya understood what might have happened, how Anandi might have ended up in his hands. He felt happy knowing she was not in Shiv's hands on her own but was a mere accident. Same time condemned Shiv for being there instead of him, snatching his opportunity. But his smile was short lived as he saw Anandi walk to Shiv, handing tape, saying something and both laughing loud. That sight made him furious, very furious. He cursed Shiv for trying to take his Anandi away from him. He made up his mind, he will teach Shiv a lesson, show him his place, make him realize Anandi only love's HIM - her Jagya, she belongs only to HIM. He had seen enough. He turned around and walked off enraged.

Part - 20 (A)

The Conversation - Part -1

Shiv got down the stool after pasting poster on the wall. He stood still, with a blank face, wondering how to start the conversation.

Anandi looked at his pale face and asked "What happened Collector sab, is everything ok? You look distracted, is something bothering you?".

Shiv snapped out of his thoughts and looked at Anandi. Seriousness and at the same time anxiety visible on his face. He said "I want to talk to you about something Anandiji. Sorry, I compelled you to meet me this early, but I couldn't wait. Sorry for disturbing you".

Anandi was confused, she looked at him wondering what he wanted to talk about. When he earlier said on phone he wanted to talk to her, she didn't think much of it as she felt it might be something related to work but as she watched him now she knew it was not related to work, this made her anxious and curious. She spoke, abashed, "Collector sab, you need not say sorry. I am anyway free, so you are not disturbing me at all. And don't feel that you compelled me, I also wanted to talk to you".

Shiv gave a small smile and said "Anandiji, what I am going to tell you, I want you to listen to it with an open and calm mind. I only want, what is best for you and things which keeps you happy. Please don't think otherwise".

Now Anandi was more confused and even more worried. She pondered to understand what Shiv was talking about. Failing to reach any conclusion, she said "Collector sab, jo bhi kehna hai saaf saaf kahiye".

Shiv closed his eyes for few seconds composing himself before he spoke slowly, "Anandiji, I know in what circumstances you agreed to this marriage. I never wanted you to marry me out of compulsion. NEVER. I tried to explain you even that day, that you need to think about it before you take decision just based on your promise to your mother. Don't take me wrong, I am not saying trying to fulfill your mother's last wish is wrong, but taking a life changing decision in haste is. All I want to say is, there is still time for you to think. I know Jagat is very important to you. I also know that Jagath realized his mistakes and is now back expecting a new life with you. But I don't know what you desire. So I wanted you to know, that you are free to decide your future, that you need not feel obliged to marry me solely because we are engaged. And as per the promise you gave your mother, you should try and understand that all your mother wanted was for you to be happy. Which you will only be, if you do what your heart desires".

"Aap kehna kya chahte hai collector sab, ki mai Jagya ko chahti hu, uske saath rahna chahti hu" Anandi snapped back, feeling accused.

Feeling apprehensive, Shiv quickly explained, "Anandiji, Please, mujhe galat mat samjhaiye. I don't want you to feel you are bound to me because we are engaged. I want you to be free to choose your future, whatever it might be. I want you to know I am ok if you choose your past for your future. I will cancel the engagement, explain to everyone and will make sure that no one will question you. And if you still want to marry me, then we can go ahead with the marriage. I want you to decide your future this time, free of promises and compulsions. I know you were very young when you got married and didn't even know what it meant. Now that you know the true meaning of marriage, I want you to take decision about your future. I want you to be free from all the obligations and burdens. Its your right to choose your life partner. I want you to know that I will support you in whatever decision you take. I am your friend and will always be. Just remember that. And also remember, your happiness is more important to everyone and all your family wants, is for you to be happy at the end of the day" completed Shiv, hoping he explained everything correctly.

This time Anandi understood what he was trying to say. She felt grateful for his gesture. This man in front of her always surprised her. Whenever she felt this is the pinnacle of best a person can be, he proved her wrong by showing her there is no limit to being good and in being a good human being. She stood there looking at him without saying anything.

Scared by her lack of response he hurriedly spoke, "I am sorry if I offended you in any way, Anandiji". Disappointment visible in his voice and face.

As Anandi heard him, she meekly replied, "Please don't say sorry, Collector sab. I understand what you are trying to tell me". Shiv felt relieved listening to Anandi's words. He was much more than relieved, he felt at peace as all the tension he was carrying ever since he decided to talk to her slowly vanished. Anandi continued "I am sorry for putting you in such a situation. I understand what you must be thinking with Jagya back, repenting for his mistakes and wanting me back in his life".

Shiv cut her off saying, "You don't say sorry. What ever happened, or is happening is not your fault. Also I want to make it clear that I am saying all this because, I want you to be happy, I want you to decide your future. I don't want anyone to force you into a marriage you don't want, not even yourself. Not this time, not again".

Anandi was really touched. She confided, "Thank you for being considerate, Collector sab. I am lucky to have such a friend. I really appreciate your concern. But let me be clear, Jagya was my past and is not my future. He might have changed and I am happy he is back to his family, but I will never accept him back into my life. I was engulfed in my past for so long that I am tired of it, and now that I finally gathered the courage and took the first step to move forward, I don't want to look back and fall weak as it consists of so many wounds, some of which are still feel very fresh and painful. I don't know if I still love him, or if I can move far from my past, or if I can be successful in forgetting Jagya, or if it is even possible for me to forget my past, or if I will ever accept you in future".

She paused, taking break to calm herself by closing her eyes, breathing slowly and steadily. It was as if, she was taking the energy from air she inhaled and was exhaling the pain caused by her haunting past. It felt like she was trying to make sense of her life, like she was trying to understand herself.

She tenderly opened her eyes and continued, "I don't know many things as of now. I don't know what my future holds for me, whether it will be good or bad but life taught me to evolve with each step I took, every hurdle I faced. Life taught me to handle disappointments, endure suffering, bear pain. Because of all these hardships I faced till now, no pain seems unbearable, no suffering scares me, no problem can stop me anymore. So I am sure, I will be alright in future. I learnt to find happiness in what I have at very young age, Collector sab. So I will be happy irrespective of what life has in store for me. I will stick with my decision and face everything as it comes. That is if you still want this marriage. I won't force you to marry me like I did before. I am sorry for asking you to marry me for my selfish reason to fulfill my mother's wish. I won't impose on you anymore. If you don't want to marry me, I can understand as I don't know if I can love again, as I can't be the wife you might want or need".

Shiv stood still taking in everything she spoke. The amount of pain Anandi is carrying inside her and the troubles she went through since her childhood was clearly visible in her words. When he heard her saying, nothing will affect her anymore, the picture of her outburst few days back which she still had no recollection of flashed before him. He humbly replied, "My intention was not to remind you of your past. I just want you to be happy. I told you earlier and will say it again, I feel it is a privilege to have you in my life as my life partner. Then and even now all I want is for you to think and take the decision of your life without being hasty. All I expect from this relationship is to be beside you, support you, help you when you need it, share your happiness, sadness and joy. For us to be good friends that we can share our fears, secrets and dreams".

Anandi looked at him, unable to say anything. She can sense his sincerity in his voice and truthfulness in his words. She understood he meant each word he said, that there was no pretense, as she replayed each of his word. She gently spoke in a velvety voice "Thank you".

He looked at her as she stared into nothingness. She was remembering Jagya's words from the previous night. She looked at him and spoke with a straight face "I wanted to ask you something too, Collector sab". She paused for a moment, not sure how to ask him. But before Shiv could say anything she spoke again with the same straight face, not giving away any feeling through her expressions. "I wanted to ask you, why you want to marry me? I wanted to know, why you chose to marry me when you can get a better girl as your bride. I mean, any girl would love to have as her husband and you can get a life partner who can love you, who doesn't come with a bitter past, who will be a good wife. When you know that there might not be any future to this relationship, then why me?".

Ok, here is the continuation.

Part - 20 (B)

The Conversation - Part 2

Shiv was surprised by her question. He didn't know what to tell her, how to tell her that he loved her so much that he just wants to be with her, that being part of her life was sufficient for him, that he still has hope that one day she will understand his love and may be reciprocate it to. He stood still, rooted in his place, gazing at her, unable to come up with an answer to her question. He could have right away told her that he loves her a lot but he knew it was not the right time. He knew she was not ready to listen to it or understand it. He wanted to give her her space and time to move on from her past at her own pace. He didn't want to impose his love on her before she is ready.

Anandi was waiting for his response but when she got none, she turned to him only to find him looking at oblivion. She started to speculate if she said something wrong for which he might have felt offended, but the lack of expression on his face made it hard for her to figure out what he was thinking. She muttered, "Collector sab?".

He almost jumped when he heard her whisper, coming out of his chain of thoughts he said, "You asked a tough question, Anandiji" and gave a tiny smile looking at her. She was stunned by his behavior, just few seconds back he had a straight face and now he was smiling. She didn't know what to think of it but she responded with a smile at his response.

He heaved a deep sigh and said, "I will be honest with you, Anandiji. I will tell you only half the reason today. We can talk about the other half reason, when you are ready to hear it, when I am ready to tell you. Please don't think otherwise, I really want to tell you but I just feel its not the correct time or place. Hope you understand". He waited anxiously for her acknowledgement, wishing she doesn't misunderstand him.

She looked at him perplexed for a moment but then nodded her head in agreement. She knew Shiv well enough to trust him, to understand that he must have a strong reason for not telling her. She asked him this question not because she doubted him like Jagya, she asked him because she was curious to know why a well educated man, who is a collector, who can definitely get a beautiful girl from reputed family with good education, wanted to marry her, a girl who is from a village, who barely managed to complete her studies, who has a horrific past, and who can never give him the happiness he deserved.

Shiv felt at ease as he saw her nod and continued in a calm tone, "You asked me, why marry you? I ask you the same question, why not you? For me you are everything a girl can be. Traditional yet with modern thoughts, simple yet sophisticated, young yet strong, loving yet strict. You endured so much pain at an young age but I never saw you blame anyone for your past. You stood strong during the time in which most people would break down, taking their family down with them. You not only stood as pillar of support to your family but for this whole village. You created your own identity and made a special place in this village. After staying in this village for all these day I can undoubtedly say, it must have been very challenging to accomplish what you have achieved being a women in this male dominated world and being the youngest, first women to become sarpanch. I really respect you for that. You are saying that I can get any girl I want, I ask you, can I get a girl who is as strong as you, who can look after a whole village like it is her own family, understand others pain before they even say it out loud. I feel lucky to have known you, to have you in my life. And I am very happy to have you as my life partner. As I told you previously, what matters to me is for us to share our sorrows and happiness together. For me marriage is a promise between two people to understand and support each other through thick and thin. I want to marry you Anandi, nobody else. I want to live the rest of my life with you, not anyone else. I want you to be happy. I want to keep you happy". He stopped, afraid that if he kept talking he might say those three words which he wanted to hide from her at the moment. Trying to slow down his accelerated heartbeat, he looked away from her, trying hard to suppress his urge to declare to the world and her, how much he loved her.

Anandi froze in her position as she listened to what he said. She knew he has a good opinion about her but never thought he would be thinking this highly of her. "Do I really deserve it" she thought. She politely said, "You always teach me something about myself, Collector sab. Thank you. But I am not that great as you are picturizing me to be. I don't deserve all these compliments".

Shiv suddenly said, "Oh yes! I totally forgot". Anandi frowned, wondering what he forgot. He continued after a brief pause with a naughty smile lingering on his lips, "How can I forget to add 'Modesty' to the list. You are very modest, which we rarely get to see in today's world but sometimes its good to just accept the compliment when it is given wholeheartedly". He chuckled.

Anandi's lips curled into a small smile. She wanted to say something, anything, maybe something rhetorical but her mind failed to function at the moment. She asked him a question and he replied to it in such a way that his response left her speechless. But now she knew one thing for sure, he did not agree to marry her because she asked him to and he is well aware that this relationship is not going to be like that of a typical married couple. She was flabbergasted by the person in front of her. As she tried to gather herself to say something, her students started entering the school.

Shiv quickly turned to her and said, "Hope I answered your question. Don't ever think less of yourself. Only few people manage to achieve what you achieved at such young age, so take credit for it because you totally deserve it. I am happy we had these conversations. I will take my leave now". All she did was nod and mumble "Ji".

She was surprised at herself, at her state. What was wrong with her? Why is she having hard time to speak? What was it about his answer that made her dumbfounded? Was it solemnly due to his answer or was there something else? Was it his sincerity? or his appreciation? or his opinion of her? or him?. As her subconscious asked her the last question - him?, she was bewildered for a second and brushed it off the very next instant telling herself that she is thinking a lot. She concluded that she was just a bit taken aback and overwhelmed by his praises for her, which is making her mind go numb and herself speechless because she is not used to such compliments. "Don't think much of it Anandi. This is just his goodness which is making him say all those things about you." she told herself. She was still not ready to listen to the miniscule, slow whisper coming from the depths of her heart saying, "He loves you,Anandi. And you are happy because he understands you. You are feeling affected because his opinion matters to you, he matters to you". She stood there looking at him as he moved away from her.

He walked a few step towards the exit, made an abrupt stop, turned around and looking at her said, "Did I tell you, you look good when you smile? Please smile often, for all of us. And take care of your foot, don't stress yourself. Bye". He smiled pleasantly at her before he turned around and left, waving to few students on the way out.

Ok guys, that was it. Hope you all enjoyed reading the MAHA update😊.

I felt this conversation between them was necessary before they move ahead in their relationship. I wanted this conversation between them to be 'Perfect'. I am still not satisfied with the outcome as I still feel I could have done better when showing Anandi's turmoil but this was all I could do in time I got. Please let me know if it is great, good or bad. And no throwing tomato's or eggs pls. šŸ˜‰

Pls Comment, Comment, Comment. Your opinions encourage me.
