Is 2nd marriage socially acceptable?

I loved the episode today, it had the right amount of drama, though i did miss Asad and Zoya. I was so wishing for Zoya to stand up for Dilshaad and thus meet her abba(seems probable) for the first time. But I guess CV's have planned Zoya meeting mamu in some other way.

Now to my question, I don't have muslims friends from India. I do have Indian muslim friends but they are not born and brought up in India. Is it socially acceptable in Muslim society in smaller towns in India like Bhopal to have two marriages? Or is it such a big social stigma? Afterall it's legal in India. Was Haseena's main concern that the fact was hidden from her or is it really a cause for embarrassment?

P.S. I am asking because I know soap operas can't be relied on for authenticity and I want to guess if Haseena would accept the second family if given enough incentives. It will be so interesting if both families are forced to interact because of Nikhat's wedding.

As per my knowledge is this info:-

In Islaam a man is permitted to have four wives

But he has to take the permission of the first wife to marry the second if to be done without talaaq

If talaaq(Divorce) is done then he doesn't need to seek permission like in any other religion

The second marriage is also done under serious circumstances like if they do not have a child(the woman is not able to reproduce)

those aristocratic times have gone that they would marry just out of liking for another woman

Misconceptions about Islaam should be cleared through the show as it is the vast medium to reach non Islaamic viewers

They should show all the positve things about Islaam instead of showing the Halala concept

It is not wise to do so in India Its ok in Pak because it is a norm for them but in India to digest such a thing is difficult

Sorry if have offended anyone not my intention

Thanks for replying :) Your post is quite informative. I just wanted to know if 2 marriages are prevalent in cities like Bhopal in today's time. And would you be frowned upon or is it a cause of humiliation like it was for Rashid today (His daughter's marriage got broken). Haseena never asked what was the reason for 2nd marriage. She just said I dont want to have ties with a home where the man has two wives. This gives the impression that under no circumstances 2nd marriage is acceptable.
P.S. What is Halala concept?

So it means either not enough muslims from India in this forum or nobody thinks my question is valid enough to merit an answer

In Indian Muslim society though two or more marriages are allowed but not considered good...atleast in the places that I know of.

Many loose the respect to a person...who has 2 wives.

Hope this answers your question.

I'm a Muslim and I hope I can answer all your queries.
Islam permits 4 marriages but those marriages have got many terms and conditions.A man first of all needs to be financially capable of supporting all the 4 wives and giving them equal rights. No injustice can done to either of the 4 wives. One is not allowed to get into a second marriage for fun and pleasure.Serious issues like infertility allow the second, third or fourth marriage. Our Prophet[PBUH] had 4 wives, the first one was even many years older than him.
Some followers of Islam believe that a man needs permission from his first wife to marry the second, while the others don't believe the requisite of such a permission.
However,in no circumstances marriages are allowed for fun and money.

Indian society is still not open to a man having two wives without a divorce. So that it why the second marriage is looked down upon.Even in the muslim community people talk about the man who has married the second time without giving divorce to his first wife. But Islamically,if the man has gone for the second marriage according to the clauses mentioned, then that is religiously acceptable but if the marriage was done for selfish reasons, the marriage is religiously also unacceptable.
People today marry second/third/fourth time but don't follow the circumstances under which such marriages are allowed.
In a country like India, second marriage is not acceptable in the minds of people eventhough it is legally allowed.
In many foreign countries second marriage is socially and legally acceptable.
Qubool Hai is trying to show this ill thing only.It is quite clear from the story that Rashid had divorced Dilshad,so in this case the whole situation is very much legal and socially acceptable also.Haseena is a money digger and she has got her own selfish reasons to break the engagement. She is a perfect drama queen.
Since second marriage is not well taken in the Indian society,Rashid's family tried to hide this important fact.they were afraid that the alliance may not happen if this truth comes out and this is exactly what happened when the truth unfolded today.
It was quite expected from Haseena that she'll break the engagement after knowing this truth.People still need to come interms with divorces and second marriages with/without divorce in India.
I hope your confusions are clear now.
Take care!

Thanks for the very detailed answer. My doubts are perfectly clear now😊 Your post makes sense. Even in Hindus I have seen divorced people looked down upon(in the not so modern families) so as the culture is same it must be somewhat similar for other religions as well. I hadnt noticed that Rashid has divorced Dilshaad. In that case it is hardly about religion any more and my question wasn't very valid i guess😆
Ayaan doesn't call Haseena shaitan ki khalla for no reason😆 I dont think Haseena is going to let go of such a rich family especially when she knows there's another rich brother to fulfill more of her demands😡. But all this can only spice up the show :D

Thanks for sharing your personal experience. This makes the picture even more clear. I can understand the reason. In India you kind of marry the whole family. Generally speaking the two wives are not going to be the best of friends and there are going to issues from everything from property to family business, etc.
