Zoya is a delightful and fresh young character. While she comes across as mischievous, sloppy and disorganzied, deep within this young girl is a lost person who is desperately seeking a family of her own. Granted she was raised with her first cousin and her mother, it appears Zoya really does not have a family hence the reason she might have rushed into the marriage with Akram. It seemed as though she was going to have a "ready made family.'
Lonely and abandoned by her father and never knowing her mother, Zoya has developed a tough exterior; she's confident and refuses to let life control her. She doesn't try to make herself miserable; instead she tries to have fun in life and not take things too seriously. Unlike Assad, she doesn't worry about neatness or order; she has abonded the need for these things to feel safe and secure. Not to go off on a tangent here, I hope that the story will explore a unique commonality these two have - father's abandoning them...something that I hope will bring them together and help them find a bond...in the future when Zoya and Assad have a child, I hope to see Assad and his relationship with that child to make up for the losses in his life.
Zoya also differs from the traditional India girl we see on dramas; she refuses to remain polite, subdued and coy. She is not afraid to express her thoughts and speak her mind; she never shys away from Assad and tells him what is what. Behind her abrasiveness is a very caring and sensitive girl. She defended Najma and came to her assistance, kept her secrets and protected her from Assad even at the cost of herself. She was always cognizant of Assad's mother's feelings...the two of them, Dilshaad and Najma like her so much, they have welcomed her into the home as a potential bride for Assad even know she is so different from him. That tells you how much of an impact she has had on them - and us... Zoya is the kind of person you want as friend. She's someone whom you want to hang out with and laugh. At the same time she comes across as soeone who is willing to lend an ear to a friend in distress and help them out. Overall, she is a very likeable character.
Often Indian writers confuse confidence with arrogance and rudeness...while at times Zoya might show off, she is confident with her self and never rude to her elders - her interactions with Dilshaad and Rashid and her brother-in-law are examples of this trait.
The bad and ugliness of Zoya is her excessive sloppiness to the point that the writers have simply made it unpleasant to watch at times. No one puts pizza on their armchair...accidentily dropping it and then popping it into her mouth would have worked, but sometimes it is too much...plus the food cluttered all over her room - no...that is a bit too much. Her carefreeness can be shown without her being this way - it is really over the top.
