One Christmas Eve: A RoMione OS

"So according to Article 223 (a) of the House Elf Regulation Bill on Page 198, you are- Oh for heaven's sake!" muttered Hermione angrily, a miniscule owl dropped a letter write on top of the bill that she was currently discussing with Minsiter Shacklebolt.

Mrs Figg has reported some suspicious activity around her house, which is why Harry and I have to leave for Privet Drive immediately. There's a high possibility that its one of those Muggle nutters playing a prank on her, but since she lives so close to Harry's relatives, we've to go and conduct a routine surveillance. Unfortunately, this means that I'll only be back early tomorrow morning, and we won't be able to spend Christmas Eve together. I know you were looking forward to tonight, but duty calls! I'll make it up for it tomorrow, I swear!

"Bloody hell!" swore Hermione, as she crumpled the note and tossed into the bin. At times like these, she hated having an Auror for a boyfriend.

"Is everything alright Granger?" asked Shacklebolt concernedly.

"Nothing! Erm, I mean everything's fine! Minister. Shall we resume our discussion?" asked Hermione resignedly.

"Whoa! Wasn't expecting you here Mione! What's up? Why so glum?" asked Ginny in concern, as she bustled around the kitchen to whip up some tea for her best friend who'd just appeared out of thin air.

"Cause life sucks, that's why. Spike that tea with some firewhiskey please." replied Hermione morosely, as she slumped on the armchair.

"Let me guess, you had a fight with that prat who happens to be my brother?"

Hermione took a deep breath as she accepted the tea that Ginny handed her.

"Not exactly. He has Auror duty today, of all the days! He won't be around for Christmas Eve!" cried Hermione, as she swiped angrily at a stray tear that had escaped her eye.

Ginny's eyes widened for a moment before softening, and she pulled Hermione into a warm embrace, who sniffled into her shoulder.

"Buck up. Lets go grab a drink at Hogs Head. I think Aberforth would be glad to see us." smiled Ginny, as she pulled away from Hermione.

"Hermione are you sure you can apparate back on your own? You are quite tipsy, I could always Side-Along…"

"Oh hush Ginny! Go home and enjoy, while I go and moon over the fact that my boyfriend ish too inconsiderate to want to shpend Chrishmash Eve with me!" huffed Hermione, as she turned on the spot and disappeared with a pop.

Whipping out a mirror from her pocket, Ginny looked around carefully to see if anyone was around. On confirming that she was along, she tapped the mirror with her wand and spoke into it.

"Ron, she's on her way home!"

"Thanks Gin, you're really the best!" whispered Ron, whose face had just appeared in it.

"Yeah, and you totally owe Harry and I something HUGE! We spent our Christmas Eve away from each other just for the two of you!" snapped Ginny, as she tapped her wand and deactivated the two way mirror.

Hermione stumbled onto the doorstep of her house, as she regained her bearings. She fumbled for her keys in her robes, and entered the flat, walking over to the nearest armchair and flopping down on it.

Almost suddenly, the room was lit up with a soft light, and Hermione opened her eyes to take in her surroundings.

"Shweet Merlin!" whispered Hermione, as she covered her head with her hands to avoid the shower of rose petals.

"Mione?"

Hermione jumped up with a start and turned around, just in time to see Ron walk out of the shadows. Unable to believe her eyes, she rubbed her eyes ferociously, but he was standing where he was.

"Bollocks. Guess I've had way too much firewhiskey at the Hogs' Head, which is why I am seeing stuff. Ginny was right, I am quite drunk." thought Hermione, as she stumbled her way across the room to walk to the room she shared with Ron.

"Mione?" asked Ron once again, a little louder this time.

Hermione faltered and peered curiously in Ron's direction, as if trying to figure out who was calling out her name. Deciding to end her hallucination once and for all, she walked over to where Ron was standing and poked him in the stomach with her wand.

"OW! Mione, what the heck was that?!" exclaimed Ron, as he bent over double, clutching his stomach in agony.

"Won? Ish that you?" asked Hermione, curiously, while poking him on his shoulder blade.

"Yes it is me! Now will you stop poking the hell out of me?! Bloody hell!" cried Ron, as he tried to swat Hermione's hand off him.

"But..but..you shaid you had raidsh? Wait, did you make the roshe petalsh fall over my head? Oooh Won Won!" sighed Hermione, as she planted a rather wet kiss on Ron's cheek and smothered him with a hug.

Ron chuckled to himself over her bushy mane as his hands encircled her tiny waist.

"Mione?"

"Hmmm?"

"I have something I need to tell you.."

"Sho tell me!" smiled Hermione goofily, as she pulled away from him.

To her immense surprise, Ron went down on his knees.

"Won?" gasped Hermione.

"Mione, when I first met you, I hated your guts. You told me I had dirt on your nose, and I thought your head was full of dirt. Only when you covered for us after the incident with the troll did I realise that you may be bossy and an insufferable know-it-all, but you're not a bad person. In all these years that we were together, I really don't' know when did you become something more than my best friend. When Bellatrix was torturing you, I..I thought I'd go mad Mione. And I think that's when I realised that I want you with me, till death do us part. If I can, I want to die with you by my side." finished Ron in one breath.

"Oh Won! Are you..are you?" whispered a rather teary and tipsy Hermione, as his words registered in her head.

"I know I am not very eloquent, but..Hermione Jean Granger, I love you more than my mom's food and Quidditch. Will you do me the honor of being my wife for as long as we shall live?" breathed Ron, as he pulled out a simple diamond encrusted ring out of his breast pocket.

Hermione bent down and captured Ron's lips in a searing kiss as his hands expertly found her ring finger, and slipped the ring on her hand. It was at this time that all the clocks in their house began to chime, indicating that it was the start of a new day, the start of a new beginning.

It was Christmas.
