As most of us probably know, the unfortunate victim of the Delhi Gang Rape passed away in the Singapore hospital where she had been admitted, today at around four am. [Don't know what I'm talking about? Read this]

Living in Delhi, the protest capital of the country, I saw most of the protests and the outrage naked in front of my eye. And I commend people for stepping out, I really do. These protests, they gave me hope that we aren't living in as bad times as I thought. And me being somewhat cynical in my approach to life, that's big. For me, atleast. But I digress.

This post isn't about applauding the Delhi for finally waking up, but is actually about mourning the death of humanity.

You see our venerable Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, talk about being afraid for his three daughters off a piece of paper. You see our honourable President's son say that the protests are just 'painted and dented' women yelling around, and youngsters who go to discos and pubs have no right to protest, or something like that and you start wondering if it is just you, or are these people actually serious.

Let's get closer home, let's get into my classroom. The protests for justice were still a novel thing, and all of my friends decided to join the protests. The idea spread like a wildfire, and soon almost all of our class wanted to join in. It was recess and the entire class had gathered around to discuss stuff like transport and where to meet and how to go about it. I felt so happy to see my friends and everybody for once not messing about stuff and being actually serious. And then this girl, I'm not naming her for obvious reasons, pipes up with "you guys go for protests, I'm sleeping in. Please man. Between protests and sleep, I'll obviously choose my sleep"

I don't want to go into details of that particular... erm, argument. Let's just say that I gave the longest speech ever, even by my standards, considering the fact that I usually don't stop talking.

I'm not trying to make myself some sort of hero or anything, I just want to highlight how crude and absolutely inhuman these people are. I mean... they just don't f**king care.

Later that day, our Vice Principal decided to take Life Skills (Part of the CCE curriculum, our Vice Principal takes the occasional class. Much like Miss Trunchbull in Matilda, except we look forward to the classes, and don't add newts to water jugs. Matilda by Roald Dahl, that is) and he discussed the entire incident with us, and encouraged us to join the protests and raise our voices. To put the Holden Caulfield way, he is one of the most un-phoniest men I've come across in my life; and when he said stuff, we knew he meant it. And suddenly, we see this girl actively take part in the discussion, right up to the extent of going forward and taking credit for the idea of the entire class going to the protests.

To put it the Holden Caulfield way, again- she was a phony bitch.

Now, I'm not trying to make myself some sort of under-woman superhero or something, but... I look at the sheer callousness of this one girl, and I begin to question everybody.

Dearest Damini, or as they call you now- the Daughter of India, I'm sorry you died. I can't say it any other way, but I'm really sorry. I don't know if there is any second life, or rebirth or anything like that- I can only guess. But if there is, I sincerely hope that you are born anything but a human.

A/N: All incidents stated in this thread are cent percent true, and I would appreciate if the discussion is clean and healthy. I understand that this is not related to any show, but I just had to post.

well said Vee, anything but Human!!! I pray for her soul to rest in peace... wonderful post dear... Its sickening to hear such news and the end result of it!! And you know the most sad part is, there are people who will still blame victim for the consequences... "had she not gone for movie, it would not have happened" "what kind of girl would go for movie late night" " she must have enticed them in some way" so on and so forth... We as a society is no less than those bas***ds who did the heinous crime... our humanity is lost somewhere!! People would rather choose their sleep/parlor appointment/ movie Over supporting a cause... Indeed R.I.P Humanity!! And its not just in India dear... I am not from India but i have heard and known such incidents where either the victim is forced to keep silence or killed... I hope our Damini is in better place now... free from sufferings... May god bless her soul and give her family strength to overcome the grief!!God bless them!!

May her soul rest in peace.

Our country is in a very sorry state right now. When I look around, even now I see people going on with the same ideology as people. "It was the girls fault.", "How could she go out after ten, that too with her boyfriend.", "Girls should stop wearing short clothes." and the best..."If she had given in to save her intestines."

It's downright sick.

She was truly a fighter. I'm glad she fought while she was being raped and I'm glad she fought for her life even when she had been going through those painful surgeries.

In a way, I'm glad she died. I'm sure she wouldn't have liked to live such a place where in protests against the government, girls are being groped and touched at all the wrong places. Talk of being totally off point and loosing perspective. Damini definitely, is at a much better place now. Because yes, humanity is indeed dead. R.I.P humanity.

May her soul rest in peace. I agree. Humanity is truly dead in this country. Politicians talk like idiots, youngsters are out on the streets protesting, to all intents and purposes, in vain. I'm saying this because except for the ones who did go for the protest (and I did not. I regret it but unfortunately my parents are too over-protective), the rest of us youth are either interested in saying BS about the ones protesting and mocking them or they are too callous to look around and see what is happening around them. What hurts more is that some of them just do it to look "cool". Yes, "cool". One of my friends (I shudder to think I actually liked this person) turned up for the protests, took photos and Whatsapp'd those to me. I live in Kolkata and this was the candle march held one evening. I asked him, so what exactly what was the purpose of the march. Was it for the death penalty, or was it simply an agitation? The guy replies, Ummm..It was like against rapists, I guess. "I guess"?? You go to a protest march and you bloody don't know why? Another excused himself with ill health as a reason and went to see Life of Pi the next day. Oh, and FB! It's filled with rapist-bashers and rapist-basher-bashers, a.k.a. the mockers. All this hollowness really saddens me. Showing off your vocabulary won't get Damini's culprits the punishment they should receive. I just pray that the people who sincerely have been moved to action in the aftermath of the rise in protests actually manage to get something done.

hey v!!

first of all thanx fr sharing a true incident. truth is smthing so rare these days, i cant help but admire watever i get in bits and pieces.

even i would like to tell you about a "protest" kind of thing which happened wen i was in school. one of teachers of our school died a very painful death in an accident. he was very young, talented and was constantly aspiring and trying fr new heights, at the same time was a fvrt among his students. i wasnt ever taught by him, but there are sm people who make their impression without even trying, he was one of them.
you cant imagine how many tears were shed, each and every eye was red...we couldnt stop sobbing at the loss of his parents, who resided in a village where even electricity is scarce; for his wife who was barely 19 and married fr just two months at that time ( there is a tradition of early marriage in my state),for unfulfilled dreams and vows.
but what shocked me was...some students started protesting...shouting slogans and all..demanding that principle dint show enough respect fr the demised soul, by not declaring a holiday. i was stunned!!! but it was only beginning, there was huge chaos..and ultimately a house met was organised (where all students and teachers are present). as soon as princi arrived, a guy stood up , and started citing examples of mahatma gandhi and jawahar laal nehru, and said if their death-day is celebrated every year with a holiday, why wasnt this day declared a holiday, wen school had lost a very efficient and sincere teacher. to tell you, the day before that day, the same guy was following galz of my class, singing weird songs. i knew his plan was to go for a movie or something, if a holiday was declared, but i cudnt muster up the courage to tell this in front of evryone.

by now, the guys had crossed their limits, they even demanded that if a person from princi's family died, wouldn't he have declared a holiday?? i couldn't breath.

but what our principle did was..i cant explain the feeling i had wen i heard the words-
" my own niece had commited a suicide a few days back. her dead body was lying in the front grounds, if you remember your parking arrangement was shifted from that place fr a day a few days back. did you get a holiday that day?? no, ryt!!! also, i declare, there shouldnt be a holiday the day i die, i want all classes to run smoothly and there shouldnt be anything else done , even a two minutes silence should not be wasted. am i clear??"

after the house meet ended, i was the only one in class who supported principle with the idea of not declaring a holiday!! even after soo much, people all crying and sniffing were still concerned about why had principle not given due respect to the soul. wen i asked them who has given them the right to judge him, i was shushed by our own teacher!!!! she said that i am way too much influenced by principle because i am his favourite..but that doesnt mean i should blindly follow everything he said. the day ended on the same note, me alone in support of principle.

till this day, the memories give me a bitter taste in my mouth.
