New Article:Praya trapped twice in freezing lift

A TRAUMATISED elderly couple got stuck in a lift at their council-run housing block TWICE in two days.
Husband and wife Prashant Dubey, 59, and Maya Prashant Dubey, 72, were trapped for nearly an hour in the freezing elevator at their home in Bhopal last Saturday. And if that wasn't enough, the same thing happened again on Sunday, and then the unlucky couple's son Pluto, 39, and their grandchildren, Pappu, five, and Pappy, three, were also trapped.
On both occasions the fire service had to be called to rescue them after council operators couldn't say how long it would take for contractors to set them free.
Pappu has been left furious by the incidents and launched a broadside at the council for failing to fix the creaky elevator - despite being warned it was on the blink nearly six months ago.
The accountant said: "They have known about this but nothing has been done. There have been about 20 breakdowns since June but no permanent solution. For my elderly parents to then get trapped not once but twice is a disgrace. They are now too frightened to use it - and I don't blame them."
Pappu says the council's response to the incidents has been inadequate and has called on it to act before another breakdown
The emergency bell is meant to alert the council so they can send engineers but that didn't work. When my parents then called the number in the lift the council said it could take hours for them to turn up.
It was a freezing day - my parents could have got hypothermia. After the first incident they said it was fixed and it obviously wasn't. There is something very wrong with this lift and it needs to be taken out of service. Is it going to take a tragedy for the council to install a new one?"
