The Accidental Wife

Prologue
"Ek aur beer to calm the nerves?"
A loud burst of laughter... "Shantanu doesn't need anything to calm him down. He is going to be full on man. He can't afford to disappoint bhabhi, can he?" This was followed by another outburst of mirth.
Shan felt several friendly thumps on his back and returned them with the obligatory wry smile, that could be interpreted any which way desired.
And yes, he hadn't let a single drop of alcohol pass through his gullet----not because he was anxious to perform well on his wedding night and impress his brand new wife. In actuality he wanted to keep all his faculties intact in order to confirm the suspicion that had been gnawing at his brain ever since the wedding ceremony...and with every moment that passed, his anxieties were growing in intensity.
Unable to bide his time any longer, he stood up and marched towards his room not paying heed to the numerous whistles and catcalls which followed in his wake.
Thrusting the door open he strode towards the marital bed. He found it bare except for his bride's wedding finery which lay in a neat pile in one corner. Heart now pounding painfully hard in his chest, he scanned the vicinity fervently hoping that his concerns weren't true.
He approached the balcony door which lay wide open, and felt his pulse slow down slightly. Perhaps he had just been imagining it all.
A girl was standing there leaning against the railing with her face upturned towards the full moon. She turned around, "Finally! I've been waiting like forever!"
He frowned, straining to see the face which was in shadow. "Deepika?"
"Naa.. not Deepika.." She stepped forward into the light, a bright smile lighting up her beautiful face. His heart sank.
"I'm Khanak. Goodbye Shantanu."
