It was thanksgiving week and Viren and Jeevka had a week off. They were enjoying their break and taking their time to plan their future. They had so much to decide from the nursery to where and when they were going to get married. They knew it would be sometime in the end of December, but hadn't decided the right date and location. They are sitting on the sofa downstairs and making lists of things needed to be done.
viren - "Jeevs, wanna go to Napa Valley?"
jeevika - "Viren, I can't drink wine anymore and the main point of Napa is wine tasting. So no to that. How about…"
viren and jeevika at the same time said "NEW YORK"
They both laughed at how they thought of the same thing and said it at the same time.
viren - "But Jeevika, its really cold out there. And its almost a nine hour flight. What if you start feeling sick again like the last time"
jeevika - "I know but still Viren, its our wedding. I don't care how, but I just want to get married there now. In the snow, and it being beautiful and all white all around"
viren - "Jeevika what about like somewhere up north. I mean it snows there also and we can drive there"
jeevika - "Viren how boring. And drive there are you kidding me? I don't want to see garlic farms the whole way there"
viren - "Jeevika come on think practically. NO, you know what its decided we're not going. Lets find some other place come on"
Jeevika got super upset and left Viren sitting on the sofa. She went upstairs to their bedroom and lay down making it seem as she fell asleep. Viren came upstairs as he knew he had to make it up to Jeevika now.
viren - "Okay, I'm sorry. I had promised you that you would have the wedding the way you wanted. So fine if you want to go to New York thats fine with me."
jeevika - "I'm sleeping, I can't hear you"
Viren started laughing - "Well if you're sleeping, how come your talking to me, huh?"
Viren made Jeevika face him.
viren - "I said I'm sorry right? Okay come on, let go for a drive. Uhm you want to go get some scones from Starbucks"
jeevika smiled again and got up.
Viren kissed her cheek and said, "I know you too darn well"
The both of them went out for a drive and went to a drive-thru starbucks. They drove along the beach enjoying the fresh air and Viren turned on the music, which always made her mood better.
jeevika - "Viren, can we stay in New York till new years? Imagine how fun that would be in Times Square"
viren - "That would be a lot of fun. Shall we go home now and book our tickets?"
jeevika - "Yup"
Both of them reached home and got cozy in their bed under the blanket. It was really cold now especially at night time. Viren was finding tickets on his laptop while Jeevika was finding some cute outfit to wear for her wedding. She wanted something white and something that could hide her almost 5 month baby bump.
jeevika - "Viren do you like this dress or this one? Which will I look less fat in?"
viren - "You're hilarious jeevika"
jeevika - "Can you just answer me please?"
viren - "mmm i like that white and pink one, happy?"
jeevika - "Okay, I'm going to order that one. I liked that one better too."
viren - "Make sure you get a size or two bigger than you are right now" he said laughing
jeevika - "VIREN THATS REALLY NOT FUNNY. I can't believe you would mock me with my weight like that"
viren - "Jeevs i was just joking. And you know I think you look cuter like this. The bump suits you a lot" he said putting his hand on the bump.
viren - "OMG jeevika did you feel that?"
jeevika - "OBVIOUSLY viren, the baby's inside me? This is the first time our baby's kicking Viren"
Viren put his head on Jeevikas bump. They were both really excited. For the first time Jeevika called it "our" baby. She was slowly accepting this baby.
jeevika - "Viren this feels so funny. I had read only how it felt when a baby kicked its mother, but its so different experiencing it"
Viren just gave her a kiss on the cheek.
viren - "I love you"
jeevika - "I love you too. Viren I need to go finish studying. I'm going downstairs to make some coffee. Do you want some?"
viren - "No I don't want any, but I'll come with you. Here first put on your sweatshirt, it's really cold downstairs"
Jeevika took her sweatshirt out from her closet and tried putting it on. It no longer fit her. She started tearing up a little now as she hated the way she looked. Viren saw her just standing there in front of the mirror and knew it. He went and got his UCLA sweatshirt out and helped her put it on.
viren - "Come let's go down" - he said taking hold of her hand and walking downstairs.
Jeevika went to make some coffee as Viren was getting out his and Jeevika's books.
viren - "Jeevika when are your finals?"
jeevika - "on Dec. 17-20th. Plus I have some clinical exams the week before. The next few weeks I might be in the hospital the whole time. When are yours?"
viren - "Same as yours, 17th to the 20th. So then shall we leave for New York on the 25th?"
jeevika - "And get married the 26th"
viren - "No, lets enjoy New York first and then we get married"
jeevika - "No viren, I want to get married on the 26th"
viren - "Why that day Jeevika?"
jeevika - "That's my dad's birthday. And I'll feel that he'll be giving us his blessings" she said getting teary eyed again.
viren - "Whatever you want" he said kissing her forehead.
Jeevika cried at almost everything and anything. They were both really excited for their wedding, yet they both had a hole in their heart. They didn't have any family to share their happiness with.
