Exclusive! Kareena Kapoor Khan talks to Pinkvilla about Talaash & her life post marriage

Kareena Kapoor, who recently became the begum of Nawab of Pataudi, Saif Ali Khan makes a stunning comeback in Talaash. In an exclusive interview to Pinkvilla.com, Kareena talked to Mauli Singh about Talaash and her life post marriage. Bebo asked us to refrain from talking about her character since it will give away the plot of the supernatural thriller which we reluctantly (read happily) agreed to. So here it goes…

Thank you so much. It's a brave film to make and be a part of. I am waiting to see it post December 10.
You haven't seen the film yet!!! Why so?
I was in Delhi on the day of the screening and I landed here at 10.30 at night. The screening had already started. I wasn't keeping too well. I was asked to rest as I had to leave early morning, next day for the Big Boss promotional shoot. So it was quite hectic. In fact the last few months have been very hectic for me.
Since it's your first film post marriage, does the appreciation mean a lot more?
Yes. It's means a lot. It was important that people like me in this movie. It's a kind of role I have never attempted before so I wasn't sure how will it turn out. Everyone was a bit skeptical about the way it will be received by the audience. But I am overwhelmed at the kind of appreciation I have received.
Was it a tough role to pick?
Not really. When Aamir offered me the role and Reema narrated me the script, I was myself stunned that we were actually making this kind of a film and I was being offered such a special part. I think it's an actor's job to try and keep doing different roles. The same song-and-dance roles become boring after a point.
You have played a sex worker after a decade. In what sense is this character different than Chameli?
I think this is a very sensitive portrayal compared to what I did in Chameli. It talks about the ill-treatment meted out to them but there is a slight redemption and hope in the end. It's a beautiful film which has a message apart from the suspense element.
This is your first film with a female director. Was it any different being directed by a woman?
I don't believe in the gender biases. I think Reema is a very competent director. She is very disciplined and clear about what she wants.
Did this role require any special kind of preparation?
I am not an actor who prepares too much for a role. I am more of an instinctive and intuitive actor. I don't think you can teach somebody how to feel or act. But to each their own…
Two back-to back films with Aamir Khan...
I am just lucky to have worked him in two films back-to-back, both extremely special and totally different. I have the highest regards for Aamir Khan. I also believe in Aamir's philosophy that an actor should work for the film and not in isolation.
You seem to be a favourite of all the Khans. Considering some of them don't share the best equation, does it put you in a difficult situation at times?
I am an actor. I don't get into anyone's personal space. I do a film that I want to do. Their ego hassles are of zero interest to me. I do my job and come back home. I don't like to socialize with my actors. I have learnt to demarcate my work from personal life from Saif. I would love to work with all of them.
How do you react to mischief mongers who have already revealed the plot on the social networking sites?
Aamir had requested people not to reveal the plot. It's sad that the plot is out.
Your marriage was under a huge media scanner and a lot was written (good and bad) about it. Did that bother you?
Saif and I are very modern and believe in freedom of speech. You can't stop someone from writing good or bad. Our wedding was a positive event in our lives; it was a commitment of love and faith. People should appreciate that. We love to take everything in our stride. I am an extremely non-judgmental and non-biased human being. I am the last person to go out and clarify something in the press. I also feel that today's audience is very sharp. They know exactly what is true and what is not. There are thousands of publication and PR managers who have a personal agenda. So the best thing is to be silent.
It must not be easy being a mother of two grown up kids, Ibrahim and Sara…
I am not their mother. They have a wonderful mother. I am their friend.
When do you plan to have your own kids?
We have just got married. We want to travel the world. We both are extremely busy with our careers. There is a right time and place for everything.
So you are not worried about the biological clock ticking?
I actually make a young bride. I am only 32.
You have an amazing chemistry with Saif. Why doesn't it translate as well onscreen?
I don't know the reason. I personally believe that chemistry has really nothing to do with two actors. It's more to do with the story, screenplay and dialogues. Same pair can have a sizzling chemistry in one film and vice versa.
Will we see you both romancing onscreen?
Probably not. We don't know. I see too much of him at home. I don't need to do a movie to spend time with him. I do a movie because I like the script or a role. We don't think we should work together. We are both very strong individual actors. We don't even talk about movies as much. There are so many beautiful actresses that he can romance onscreen. He loves to see me with Aamir.
Who does Saif make the best onscreen pair with?
He makes a fantastic pair with Rani (Mukerjee). Hum Tum is the most romantic film I have seen of Saif. But I think he should work with Priyanka Chopra because they both are great actors. I would love to see them in a movie together.
How was it working with Rani again after ages? Did you guys catch up on old times?
Unfortunately, we don't have a scene together. I am very fond of her. We bonded very well on a promotional tour of the film in Delhi. She is confident of her talent and respects my work. So it makes it easy for us to put up our feet and have a cup of tea.
When are you starting your next Satyagrah?
First I will start Karan Johar's film with Imran. It's going on floor next year. I think that will fun. Then I will go on to Satyagrah with Ajay Devgn
