| In the battle of Khans at box office this season, Salman Khan sits pretty at the top with his mega-blockbuster Ek Tha Tiger which is the second highest grosser in Bollywood history. Now, with Aamir Khan entering the fray with his much-awaited but under-promoted Talaash, the question that comes to mind is: will the cop Aamir make the tiger Salman purr? Rs. 200 crore is a tough milestone to cross, but Aamir Khan has done it before with 3 Idiots which, by the way, is the biggest Bollywood grosser of all time, even above Ek Tha Tiger. So there is no reason to believe why Talaash won't trump the Tiger at box office. However, a few things might make it difficult for Talaash to enter the 200 crore club. We at ApunKaChoice bring you the dynamics that will play out for the film at box office. Firstly, unlike Ek Tha Tiger that released on Independence Day and enjoyed the long Eid weekend,Talaash has no such extended weekend for a headstart. Secondly, ETT had no big competition before or after at box office, but Talaash comes close on the heels of the Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Son of Sardaarclash, and will be followed by the release of Akshay Kumar's Khiladi 786 next week. Thirdly, Talaash has been deliberately under promoted by its makers, and the film's collections downsouth may be dented by Rana Daggubati's Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum which also releases this Friday and is riding very high on buzz in Andhra and Tamil Nadu. These odds could be offset by the fact that the fans are famished for an Aamir Khan film. His last release Dhobi Ghat didn't really have him in the lead role and was more of an arthouse venture. So it's been close to three years since 3 Idiots, that Aamir will be seen in a major Bollywood release. Talaash will release on around 2500 screens and should draw the footfalls, given all the curiosity that the promos of this murder-mystery and suspense thriller have kicked up. The presence of Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukerji come as an added bonus. While the unpredictability of box office could not be ruled out, we wish to ask our readers: do they think Aamir Khan's Talaash can beat Salman Khan's Ek Tha Tiger at box office? |
