An Aamir Khan film is keenly antipicated. After all, Aamir Khan is probably the best example of an actor who's film receive both huge appreciation and huge box office collections. Aamir Khan has always been hugely appreciated to due to the love that his film have gotten, films such as QAYAMAT SE QAYAMAT TAK, JO JEETA WOHI SIKANDER, ANDAAZ APNA APNA, RANGEELA, RAJA HINDUSTANI, LAGAAN, DIL CHAHTA HAI, RANG DE BASANTI, FANAA, TAARE ZAMEEN PAR, GHAJINI, and the film that, as I speak, is still the highest grossing film of all time in India (unadjusted for inflation), 3 IDIOTS. The fact is, the majority of these films are remembered as classics even today, and the majority of all them were also really successful at the box office, especially RAJA HINDUSTANI, GHAJINI, and 3 IDIOTS which are some of the All Time Blockbusters of Indian cinema.
Now, we have Aamir Khan's new film, TALAASH. It is after a gap of 3 years that Aamir Khan will be seen on the big screen. Much has been spoken and written about TALAASH. Rumors circulating about there being differences between Aamir Khan and director Reema Kagti. Rumors that "all is not well" between those involved with TALAASH. Rumors that Aamir Khan adjusted the climax of the film because it was too similar to KAHAANI's climax. All of these rumors kept catching more fire and become hotter, due to the film being postponed several times (was supposed to release in Januay early this year, then June, and now finally November!).
However, Aamir Khan has rubished all of these rumors. He has also said that film is not being promoted much because they don't want the suspense element to be revealed. Also, I would like to include an interesting quote from director Reema Kagti: "We are sandwiched between Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Son Of Sardaar on one Friday and Khiladi 786 on the next Friday. All these three are big extravagantly-hyped films. We had two choices. Either we made ourselves heard louder than these biggies, which was impossible. Or we spoke in a much quieter tone than our competition. We've chosen the latter option, also because we can't speak too much about the film without giving away the suspense." Point to be noted!
Many are of the opinion that TALAASH isn't quite as "hot" as one would expect it to be pre-release, as it is a big film starring Aamir Khan. The constant post-poning of the film is one reason. Another reason is that the theatrical trailers perhaps didn't create such a big splash as they could've. Some people liked the trailers, while others didn't think of them as being anything too special/memorable. Another thing is the music. The music is the type that fits with the situations in the film rather then being music that you would listen to constantly. That is why some people feel that the music/songs of the film are "thanda".
However, with all that being said, let's make it clear: This is an Aamir Khan film. The man who has been known to be the perfectionist. I am sure that TALAASH the film will win tremendous appreciation from the class/multiplex audience in India.
Now, to the box office of the film. Since Aamir Khan is the one of India's biggest film stars, I am sure that TALAASH will take a huge opening, particularily at the multiplex-dominated areas, as it is a classy film. As I said, I am sure that film will be really appreciated by the class audience, and therefore, even after the opening weekend, the film will have a strong run and will do very well at the box office. On the other side, there are also a few obstacles. One obstacle is that due to the fact that is a classy type of the film, the film will not do so well at single screens/mass-dominated areas. Business may be poor in those mass areas. Also, due to the fact that TALAASH is a thriller/mystery type of film, the film will somewhat lack repeat value. Also, next week will see the release of KHILADI 786, another eagerly anticiapted film, and it will have a bad affect on the collections of TALAASH. In a nutshell, TALAASH will do very well, but it definitely won't do anywhere near as good as Aamir Khan's last film 3 IDIOTS did! There is another thing I would also like to mention. The film has been made on a reasonale budget, which will is a good thing, but the theatrical rights have been sold to Reliance for a record amount apparently! Will be interesting to see if it can all be recovered and more.
My Box Office Predictions for TALAASH:
Opening Day: 13 crores net
Opening Weekend: 42 crores net
Lifetime Collections: 100+ crores net
Overall Box Office Verdict: Super Hit
So, it can be said, Aamir Khan will be back with a bang! He may not be the king anymore because of Salman Khan, but nontheless, TALAASH will bring him back with a bang. Oh, and for those who want Aamir Khan to return to his throne (number one spot), remember, next year he has DHOOM 3 (hugely anticipated) and PK (director by Raj Kumar Hirani, who directed 3 IDIOTS!).
Kareena Kapoor hasn't had much of a strong year, with EK MAIN AUR EK TU and HEROINE both only doing reasonably well at the box office. However, TALAASH will be beneficial to her too. I feel that Kareena will receive appreciation for her role in TALAASH, and we can see in the promos that she has gotten well into her character and is looking hot.
Rani Mukherji had AIYAA recently, which proved to be a dissapointment at the box office. But, TALAASH will prove beneficial for her too, and she seems to have a big role in the film.
