| | | | Manav Gohil and Shweta Kawaatra | Last year, Nach Baliye awarded the winning couple, Sachin and Supriya Pilgaonkar, a grand prize of Rs 50 lakh, while their choreographers, Mel and Al, won Rs 25 lakh.
However, the picture has been modified this time around. It is rumoured that this year's winning couple won't be awarded that sumptuous amount. A source from the channel confirms this, saying, "There is no prize money this year. The couples have signed a contract with us and are aware of it."
What money?
Obviously, this does not mean that these actors are dancing on the show for free. "They will be paid a fixed amount each week. Apart from this, there aren't any other monetary gains from the show," says the source. Even though the channel is toeing this line at the moment, things could change once the competition begins. "Last year, we announced the amount only after a few episodes of the show. It may or may not happen this time," he says.
Interestingly, not many couples are aware about this development. Most believe they will be winning a fat amount if they are the chosen ones, apart from what they will get for participating each week.
Misunderstanding
A leading TV actress and Nach Baliye 2 participant says, "I'm sure there is a misunderstanding. They will be awarding the winning couple some money. If you look at the names on the show this year, it's evident that none of these actors will work for peanuts. At the end of the day, it's a contest and involves winning a cash prize."
Last year, each couple won an amount of 16 lakh for each week they were on the show. This season that amount has come down to 10-12 lakh.
"There are 13 weeks in totality. The couples will be getting a fixed amount till they reach the mid week. After that, we could change the figure," says a source on the show. |
| Where's the money, honey?
We spoke to the some of the contestants to find out what they felt about the changed format and their thoughts on there being no prize money at the end. Manav Gohil There's some prize money, but I'm not aware of how much it is. I have my contract papers with me, but haven't really had the time to go through it. At the moment, I am just concentrating on the rehearsals. Shweta Kawaatra There must be a prize at the end. Maybe the channel doesn't want to go public with the amount. As actors, we completely understand. Bakhtyaar Irani I am aware of certain changes regarding terms and conditions on the show this year. I'm honoured to be on a show like Nach Baliye. Everything else is secondary to me. Tanaaz Lal I don't discuss my contract or money matters. But the fact that I have agreed to do the show means I am perfectly cool with the terms and conditions. Gurdip Kohli I am quite aware of the new format. The challenge this year is to reach the maximum level if you have to win the cash prize. I am thrilled that we had a smooth beginning to the show and hope everyone votes for me. | |
