Rani Mukerji: It will be too hot for Aamir to handle Kareena and I together

In an interview to Digital Spy, Rani Mukherji talks about her upcoming film Talaash.

On re-uniting with Aamir Khan after a gap of seven years she says, "You know for me, working with Aamir is such a special experience because I had originally worked with him as a newcomer in Ghulam. I was just 17. At that impressionable age, Aamir made a huge impact on my life professionally, and of course he has gone on to become a really, really close friend of mine. I can consciously say that he is my friend for life. I think nothing has changed with Aamir, except that he has gone from being a big star then to an even bigger star now. His dedication and focus have become stronger. What actually has changed, is that I have turned from a newcomer to an actress with many years behind her".

On the famous news of not having a single scene with Kareena Kapoor in the movie, she says, "I think Aamir can handle only one of us at a time. I think both of us would get too hot for him, he can just handle one at a time."

Talaash is all set for release on November 30. Got to wait and watch how this suspense story unfolds.

Rani Mukerji 'Talaash' interview: 'Aamir Khan can't handle Kareena and I'

From commercial success in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to critical acclaim in Black, Rani Mukerji's 15-year career has seen the actor appear in a range of film projects. Mukerji's latest onscreen outing is in Reema Kagti's Talaash alongside fellow Bollywood heavyweights Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor. Digital Spy caught up with the husky-voiced star to talk comebacks, marriage and the 100 crore club.

Talaash has been described as a 'suspense drama', what can we expect from the film?
"What you can expect [are] very good performances, a really nice storyline and an emotional film that tugs at your heart. There is a lot that will hook you into the film and a lot that you will take back home."

What is the significance of the film's tagline 'The Answer Lies Within'?
"I think that what is important with the tagline is for one person to seek for answers within himself. Because - generally speaking, I am not saying in terms of the film - when we human beings search for answers and start looking for answers outside, we just forget the strength of our instincts and that we can always find the answers from within us."

You last worked with Aamir Khan in 2005 for Mangal Pandey. How was it to reunite with him for this project?
"You know for me, working with Aamir is such a special experience because I had originally worked with him as a newcomer in Ghulam. I was just 17. At that impressionable age, Aamir made a huge impact on my life professionally, and of course he has gone on to become a really, really close friend of mine. I can consciously say that he is my friend for life.

"I think nothing has changed with Aamir, except that he has gone from being a big star then to an even bigger star now. His dedication and focus have become stronger. What actually has changed, is that I have turned from a newcomer to an actress with many years behind her."

If I was a Bollywood actress, I would be a little bit intimidated working on a dual heroine film with Kareena Kapoor. Did you have any trepidation signing up for the film?
"No. You know what? Right from the beginning of my career I have done films with another actress being there, and it has not made a difference to my life, my career or my individual personality.

"I think there is a lot of space for people to love who they love, and a lot of space for actors to carve a niche for themselves. I think in this case, Aamir, Kareena and I have all been able to carve a niche for ourselves as actors as we have all been in the industry for so many years. So I don't think any one of us would be threatened by anyone's presence."
Did you actually have scenes together with Kareena in the movie?
"No I don't; nothing at all. I think Aamir can handle only one of us at a time. I think both of us would get too hot for him, he can just handle one at a time."

The 100 crore club is a big thing at the moment. How important is it for you that Talaash joins this?
"You know, I find it really strange that people are giving so much attention to that. I think that what is more important is how many people are going to watch the film. It is more about success at the box office, and this comes from how many people are interested in going to watch your movie rather than measuring it by 100 crore. For me that is what is important - not the numbers."

After a short gap, you released Aaiyaa and now Talaash. With actresses, after any short absence from the screen, the media often proclaims that this is a comeback...
"I get really annoyed because comebacks are usually for actors who get married and have children. Sridevi made a comeback with English Vinglish, and that really was a comeback after many years. I think for actors like us, between releases we are actually preparing for our character or we are choosing another film or we are working on a film project; we are not ever really going away from our work.

"When I actually do make a comeback after my marriage and children, I don't know what [the press] would term that as. Would they term that as a double comeback - maybe a new word coined by them?"

So is marriage something that is on the cards?
"No, not really. Because these things just happen, so I would like to let things unfold naturally in my life and not plan."

After all this time in the industry, do you still have those nerves on the day that the film comes out? .
"We all get nervous with the 'first day, first show', and today with social networking, you get people's reaction to films instantly. Today, you have people writing reviews of your film as they watch them. You do get nervous, because you would like to know what people think about your work and what people think about the film. You want to know if people enjoyed it, so there is nervousness always."

So although you do not have a Twitter handle, do you still check the site to see what people are tweeting about your films? .
"You get to know from people working on the film who are on Twitter who do access social networking sites. You are curious to know what people do think about you or your films."

Do you ever go into cinemas in disguise to observe audience response? .
"No, I don't. I don't think that it would work for me, because the minute I start talking people immediately recognise me!"

Talaash is released on November 30

She does NOT look like a 17 year old in Ghulam at all. She looks at least 21 years old.

This is the EXACT reason I posted an article related to Rani . . . so members could take digs at the actress and see how a hardcore fan can still keep her cool. 😎 😆

17? Wow. She def didn't look 17 during Ghulam days. lol
